These videos are so well put together, it always kind of bums me out that I was a kid when I got my first tarantula (B. hamorii) and he lived his whole life with a lot of beginner mistakes (sponge in water dish, not enough substrate, several crickets in the enclosure at a time, etc). But once I was old enough I found your care videos and others and I like to think he had a good last year, luckily he was a hardy species and lived his full 10 year lifespan.
I'm excited to get more tarantulas and care for them properly!

This channel is so fascinating, one day I would like a tarantula. I found out about this channel off the back of a collab with Wickens Wicked Reptiles and I have been hooked ever since. The way you present your information and the excitement for the hobby as a whole is infectious. :)

Highly recommend Arachnifiles to any new tarantula keepers. It makes it 10x easier to keep track of molts and if you really want to discipline yourself on feeding schedules then it’s a great tool for that as well. Another great video! Even tho it’s good to look up multiple sources of information, it’s safe to say that you and Tom definitely make the best husbandry and care videos on specific tarantula species and I always recommend you guys to people who come up and ask me about tarantulas when I’m at work. Keep it up!

I bought my "stripe knee" tarantula from a local small pet shop. Except I came home with a grumpy Asian fossorial species, (Cyriopagopus vonwirthi) not an Aphonopelma seemanni. But hey; it has stripes on its knees, so it's all good right?

I first started watching your videos during the pandemic lock down. So I started watch a few more videos from a few others as well. At first the scientific names were confusing, but I'm a Retired RN so Latin nomenclature wasn't a big deal for me. So I'd watch all the videos I could and one year ago I finally bought my first T. A Tliltcotl albopilosus juvenile female. Then a few weeks later I bought an Aphonapelma calchodes female juvenile and a Grammastola pulchripes sling. Then my first T laid a bunch of eggs and I had to learn quickly what to do. Thank goodness too, since my research paid off and your videos helped a great deal. Thank you, Richard. 💯👍👏🕷🙃

So I’ve never dealt with tarantulas before, I just came across one about an hour ago and it was showing a death curl. The temperature outside is about 45 degrees F. I managed to pick it up and put it in a temporary container. Your videos helped out a lot with advice. I’m hoping it’ll be okay in the morning. I think I might’ve found a new hobby.

Yes my research skills have totally improved since keeping t's especially when I killed my first avic because I tried to keep the enclosure more humid than it needed to be. My avic now has a much dryer, better ventilated habitat that I wet down once a week and she's thriving

I have only been in this for around 7 months (feels like 7 years lol) and already the things I have seen…. You will definitely learn some things the hard way, regardless, BUT Richard, you’re completely right… don’t rely on just one resource, because the differences between keepers and experts are going to have their own way of doing things, etc. I learned that. I literally researched for 4-5 months before finally getting my first one, and researched HARD. I wanted to feel VERY comfortable before I did anything. Going into tarantula keeping blind is DEFINITELY going to come back on you. Listen to literally every word Richard is saying and TAKE IT TO HEART! This is AMAZING advice in one place, that you’d usually have to get from multiple sources. Please do right by the animals and realize they’re not a status symbol- they’re living and are relying on you for survival and their health and happiness. As I always say, THANK YOU RICHARD! You are always doing soooo much good for the hobby!!

I am not sure if you'll ever see this comment, but I love your channel and it's what first got me into Tarantulas. I am a total newbie, still trying to decide which species I will keep first. I am leaning toward either C. elegans or A. chalcodes. I'll probably get them both at some point.
Regardless, your positivity and willingness to make videos answering the most newbie questions has helped me a great deal and made me realize Tarantula keeping is a hobby for me.
I'm glad you were honest about the Arachnoboards, because as a newbie who's done countless hours of google research on Ts, that forum comes up a lot. And TBH, half the threads I look at are people on the forum bullying the person asking the question... Fortunately, channels like yours give people another, positive source of Tarantula information.
I hope you get to the 1 million subscriber mark soon because it is very deserved IMHO.

I also recommend having a chat with multiple individuals that have successfully bred the species you wish to own as they can usually give you a better idea of if the species has a change in needs depending upon it being a sling, juvenile, sub-adult, or adult.

so, i got a spinosatibiapalpus spinulopalpus, but before, i tried to investigate, imagine my surprise to notice that it is a species that only have a few private collections in europe, so there was basically no information (for those who wonder how i got it, I am from the country where it is endemic, a place where by the way, the hobby is very little known) for those who are wondering, she is fine, she has a somewhat unusual behavior for tarantulas in general, since she does not get into her borrow unless she's really stressed

Richard, how do you go about cleaning up urticating hairs? When they kick all over your surfaces while you’re snapping photos or vids. Just curious what your method is. Also cleaning out tanks, I get really paranoid and don’t want to get any type of hairs on myself lol

    • @lemonshark4961

I have a shop vac down there so after photographing or filming I just vacuum the table real well. A wet paper towel also works. If you're sensitive to hairs, like I am, thick nitrile gloves work well.

apologies for the newbie question here, but with regards to actual literature like books for T's, is there a recommended standard to go for? Does T care change so often that the literature is often outdated? I've got my first Tarantula arriving next week and while I'm confident with the basic ideas of husbandry and care, I'd still like to have some proper literature to refer back to for added info. I've got my Acanthoscurria geniculata on its way and I couldn't be more excited to start my T journey 😊. love the channel by the way!

I know and it is a shame bc a lot of those AB old heads have some great knowledge... as do some of the "stupidtubers" they criticize. Sometimes the "Big Fish" in a "small pond" get very resentful when the "small pond" gets bigger and they notice "bigger fish" swimming around that more people pay attention to...even if the "bigger fish" aren't harming them and even try to help support them. When I read those comments from the same few AB accounts that say that on almost any post where a youtuber is mentioned, I just hear "these damn kids with there fancy electronics and loud music better stay off my lawn"...lol. I take with a grain of salt and feel bad they are so resentful and cutting off their noses despite their face.
