A Zippo is basically a pocket stove between your fingers. Instant fire whenever you need and want it. Just be sure to keep it refilled.

My grandfather gave one of his to me 2 years ago (he died last year god bless his soul) that he had during WW2 and I carry it everywhere with me... It still runs until this day so I can vouch that this is the greatest lighter ever made. It's one of the greatest reminders of my grandfather I have and hopefully it will be there to pass to my grandchildren.
The beautiful thing about zippo as well is that while it may last forever, if there is ever a day it stops working they are warrantied for life and zippo will fix it for free. That's how good of a product it is. Wonderful story about your grandfathers lighter, something to remember him by.
He probably used gasoline in it in the war because they did that in Vietnam and I assume they did in ww2 aswell

I’m an Aussie. I bought my first Zippo 30 years ago. I now own about 20.
In all that time only one has broken, but I’ve had plenty stolen off me.
They’re beautiful pieces of engineering and art.

Zippo definitely is a fashion statement but most of us don't smoke, how about making a "101 Uses for a Zippo Lighter" video cause we need a REASON for collecting them so we appear somewhat sane:) You gave some good uses here, but I'm sure there's more, here's some; in a backpack, in a daybag, in a purse/truck/motorcycle/shop, light a wood stove/gas water heater, as a hand warmer, melt plastic cord ends, use as a stove to heat water for tea/breakfast cereal in a metal mug, light your way in the dark, use at concerts, light a gas/propane camp stove etc. All the best.

A12 Games Zippo actually manufactures hand warmers! They're awesome I highly recommend getting one or at least looking into it. They work up to 8 hours.. ad to answer you question..you warm ur hand with an ordinary Zippo; you can light it and rotate it so the flame makes contact and warms up surrounding metal, you can also slightly cover the flame with the lid and it'll warm it then you hold it but might need to wrap it in a rag be careful not burning your hand
zippo is not just a simple lighter anymore, it's a history, its a legend, and its become an icon

My brother gave me a zippo with my name on it as a gift when I was fifteen. it's one of my most prized possessions and is carry it till the day I die.

this lighter is in almost every motion picture where a character either lights up a smoke or lights up a line of fuel heading towards the bad guys car/plane/motor bike and so on plus it shows up in computer games i wonder if zippo pays for product placement or film companies choose the zippo simply because it is more pleasing to the eye and makes that distinct click when opened
either way it has been deemed cool and a american icon /classic
even though it is easy to purchase 1 of them plastic bic lighters it is nowhere near as classy as poping out a zippo

They are a damn good lighter and extremely reliable. Only thing i dont like about them (and this goes with alot of liquid fuel lighters) is that they dry out so you always have to refill them, putting that aside, you will have a lighter that will last forever.
someone said there is other fuels you can buy that don't evaporate. tho not sold at most corner stores it looks like.

Massive respect for everyone involved in making this incredible product. I feel proud to pull out a zippo. It's craftsmanship... and you can't improve on perfection...it just works...each and every time. When a product has the same components for 82 years without change... you know it is a flawless design.

Zippo is probably the greatest "Survival Tool" to every Hunter and outdoor enthusiast out here..... that spark from the flint has lit many of fires in the back country and saved many lives for doing so........... That Lighter has Sat in the War trenches with many a Soldier and still does....... Mine has ben part of my life for over 50 yrs and holds alot of memories and secrets we share between us !!!!
I’m 30 and I just ordered my first zippo. So their marketing is working on their targeted demographic. The zippo I ordered is plain and simple. It already looks old even though it’s brand new and that’s what I like about it. I also like how it’s such a high quality product and it has a lifetime warranty and it’s made in the USA.
It would be very awesome if on the 100th Birthday they picked a specific time around the globe where everyone goes outside and lights their Zippo for 60 seconds. Not only would it look awesome, it would generate a lot of media and I think a TON of sales. If that was a thing that I found out was happening and I didn't already have a few Zippos I would definitely go out and buy one so that I could take apart of a once in a lifetime event. 100 years, over 1,000,000,000 flames, all at once, multiple generations of designs and users. I should have majored in advertising.

I was born in the 60"s and remember my father carrying a Zippo lighter every day to light up his cigs. I just purchased my first Zippo three days ago and I really am enjoying listening to the click of the lid that i remember from my childhood.
Im from Sonora, Mexico, i buy a zippo in 2008 in sanborns and today i use the same zippo, that things works forever...

I’ve always loved Zippos. Before I even knew the name, I knew I wanted one. I think I got my first one at 9y/o, and now I think I have 40 plus. I’ve been carrying them daily for most of my life.

before I went to nam my gramps caught me smoking with an imco and slapped it out of my hand and gave me his zippo and stated that this was the better option. used it in the trenches in ww2 and had a picture of him lighting a ciggarette with it. ever since he passed away in 86 I carried it with me. Gave it to my son before he served in iraq and was killed on duty. zippo is the only lighter I will ever use.

I have about a dozen Zippo lighters. They're cool, charming, and evoke heroes, villians, rebels, tough guys, and they're often used to start a fire and kill bad guys in movies. The hero nor villian never sets gasoline on fire with a Bic lighter. Even the sound of a Zippo sounds cool and masculine as you flick it open, light it, and snap it shut.
I'm Japanese but i didn't know Japan was the largest market 10 years ago, I love Zippo.
Always wanted a Zippo since I was a child, owned a few in my day but I'll ask please bring back the old school thick hinge with the big boy pin, these modern ones are looking like everything these days shaved down. Robust Armour 169 but to get one brand new that flops around was heart breaking.

i have an authentic canadian made zippo. they made them here too from 48 to 02 if im not mistaken. if you have one made in Niaga Ontario hold on to it. im pretty sure eventually these will be rare
I bought a non smoker friend one as a Christmas present. He just loves lighters. And Zippo are among the very best.
I am not a smoker, but I have owned at least 3 of them. Mainly as a collectors item, but it comes useful when having a bonfire and lighting other things.

The main reason why i don't use zippo a lot is cuz they don't light when you buy them. You need to purchase fluid. A lotta times when you need a lighter you want one that works out of the box so you can light whatever it is you need to light. I'm surprised they aren't sold with the lighter fluid already in them like all other lighters. Or at least like a tiny bottle of fluid sold with it in the same package. I"m sure there's a reason tho.
My buddies and I don't smoke but we have kept our Zippos on us since we were teenagers for every camping trip.

I am not sure if this is ok, but I had the same "theoretical" Zippo for over 30 years I think. It's not the same Zippo I started with. Over time, I cannibalized other Zippos to repair mine. I never fully switched it. I switched the cover, the core, the flint, the wick, the cotton balls, the fuel. I don't have anything from the original, but the thought. I lost my wallet, keys and phone more than 10 times combined. But not once in my 50 years of life did I loose my Zippo.
And I feel it is true. You don't need to smoke to carry a Zippo. Man made fire. Man carries fire with him.

I'm 23 years old, I do smoke Marlboro black menthols, but I owned zippos before I started smoking, and if I quit I'll still own Zippos. It's just a damn good lighter, and if someone ever asks for a light it doesn't get cooler than pulling out a zippo. I carry a Bic and a Zippo for those times when my Zippo is dry. It is amazing to me to sit here in South Carolina and think that an American company makes a very large percentage of it's sales exporting product to China.

I'm not a smoker at all but the older I get the more I enjoy little relevant bits of my past like a Zippo (bought one last year for the first time), above all when the company has such great values in particular producing in the place they have always been. I now have a Zippo and a collection of Opinel knives, created in my land of Savoy and still produced entirely there (like Zippo dies). I would go visit the Zippo museum in Bradford if I were not living in another continent. Long live king Zippo!
I bought a zippo and use it all the time for everything I do. I like them because they are durable, refillable, and fixable, unlike the cheap plastic butane lighters that most people use today.
I love the zippo brand its been in my family for decades and decades My grandfather had some then my mom and pop and now i do theres just something about them you can't go wrong with i mean this is a piece of American history thats been going strong for almost 90 years with a lifetime warranty still standing to this day it works or we fix it for free no other company can beat that. So glad to see that there is still American companies that manufacture their products in the United States and made by American workers with American standards of quality on making the products... instead of just making it an American brand but it's made elsewhere great job Zippo!! Wish more companies would follow the footsteps of zippo especially Apple and their china made iphones!

I have a collection of 9 zippo lighters. I don't smoke and have no interest in smoking in my lifetime. I like zippo lighters because they are the original windproof lighter, it went to WW2, Vietnam, it has been made in America for the past 88 years. My grandfather had a zippo when he smoked cigars. His lighter was passed down to me and I will pass it down to my kids one day. All Hail zippo

I just came across a Zippo I had from 17 years ago. Don't smoke anymore so it got pointless filling it up every couple of week. I reckon I will get a new one now that they are starting to do the butane inserts. Can just gas it up and have that lying around and occasionally use it for normal things.
I switched to a butane insert, but I still have my original from college.
My Zippos aren't closet/display queens. I light them all up. The way they've been intended to be. Almost using them to punishing levels and never ever had to have any one of them serviced in the Zippo Clinic. You just have to love these little tanks. Impressive to say the least. Then add the heritage and the epic history of the company. You got a bomb of a combination.
even though i’ve been a smoker for a decade and a half, i only fairly recently (a few months ago) acquired my very own Zippo lighter, and i wouldn’t be able to come up with something negative to say about Zippo even if you paid me. i specifically wanted a very simple, plain brass case for my Zippo because it’s something that i associate very much with the US armed forces, so i thought that brass was only fitting. i hope i’m able to keep it long enough to pass it down to my children one day, if/when i do have kids.

With zippo lighters, I bet you'll think you need more than just one. I have 3. Street Chrome., brushed brass and a power button. I keep all three fueled and ready. My power button has a zippo pipe insert. I don't smoke but just love these lighters. My street Chrome goes everywhere I do. I'm thinking of getting a couple butane inserts just because, but really like the zippo in original form burning zippo lighter fluid

I bought a Zippo lighter today. Black Ice design. Pulled it out of the box only to find out that it was made 4 years ago and sat unsold in the store for that long (July 2015 date stamp). I never plan to smoke, but as he said in the video, it's useful as a firestarter for many things other than smoking.
