Yes! Been wanting a video like this. I’m generally curious about all of Brubaker’s non-hero books. Also, it’s great finding books that are self-contained stories without crossovers.
Great video! I've read the Postal TPs about two months ago and could not put it down until the end. Mark Shiffron is such an interesting and well written character! One of my next reads will be The Beauty - TPs 1 through 4 are already waiting on my shelf.
You’re amazing! wow I really want to read one of these comics one day I’m adding them into my list 😍. You really have a great taste and thank you I didn’t know these kind of comics with great stories exist!! You have a new subscriber, keep up❤️❤️.
Beyond the actual book I'm not sure what is more amazing about Emil Ferris, the fact that My Favorite Thing Is Monsters was her first comic or that she overcame a paralyzing disease to make the book. It deserves every bit of hype it gets. I think it might be the comic of the century so far.
I really need to get into Criminal and Fatale. I love Brubaker and just re read the first Sleeper collection. Image is publishing some of the best non-superhero stuff around. My wallet just can't handle all the stuff around. I'd like to add Terry Moore's works and my personal favourite Midnight Nation. It has religion listed as a subject for this book but I really don't see it as being religious. There are some references but I see it as a journey. Can't wait to see your part 2 list.
I loved Fatale, it really struck a chord with me. Easily my favourite Brubaker/Phillips book. I'm reading My Favourite Thing Is Monsters right now and it truly is something absolutely extraordinary; it's a book that'll sit right next to Maus and Sandman in the coming years.
I was one of the people asking for a video like this. Really appreciate you going out of your way to make it! There are a bunch of comics here I havent read, thank you for showing them to me. Cant wait for part 2. I wonder If some of my fav will make an appearance...
I absolutely LOVE Postal, Criminal and Fatale! Still yet to read Punisher: Platoon. Ennis is the best at war in my opinion! Bendis, Crime Noir is also awesome! Great vid, Jess!
Awesome video with some great suggestions. Perhaps you could do some recommendations for one-and-done graphic novels for those who don't want to get into a whole 6+ volume series.
So glad you mentioned two of my all time favorite comic book authors; Harvey Pekar and Ed Brubaker. Did you know that Ed makes an appearance in the American Splendor book you suggested? Thanks and keep up the great work
@@OmnidogsVault well, after doing research on alex ross, I noticed that hes old school tradition, no grey area, just right and wrong,so books in that vain😊
@@mancavetheater1240 ok I will try to come up with some ideas but I feel like a lot of comics by the big two have a pretty firm moral center, like Superman and also SpiderMan who refuses to use a gun
@@OmnidogsVault true but some lack a mature tone, there in the category of "made for everyone",batman also refuses to be armed but the tone is interpreted either for everyone or those who like more of a R rating,so I guess something more,pg-13 for mature(adult) themed without graphic violence or nudity and profanity
@@mancavetheater1240 to be honest, I don't think writers write that way these days. All the characters are flawed and there are a lot of gray areas. If you could just think of one particular comic that fits your parameters I might be able to help you
The stories in both books all share a universe, but there is little chance they will be reprinted IMO. Criminal is an Icon imprint of Marvel's and Marvel has shown no interest in reprinting books of writers who no longer work for them. I'd settle for the TPB's at this point, just to get the stories.
I strongly endorse Criminal & Fatale as great reads. The last 2 one shots of Criminal have been collected in a tpb only. Criminal & Fatale have 2 Deluxe Editions HCs each.
If you've never read it, you need to check out Rust by Royden Lepp, Not a traditional cape and tights super hero story. Think "Smallville meets The Iron Giant" Easily one of my TOP favorite stories of all time.......CHECK IT OUT!!! :D

I love that over half of these are books that I've never heard of before. I get tired of hearing about the same 9 or 10 books in a lot of these lists.
that's a big compliment! Thank you!!
You live a blessed life. I would watch a Dog video every day.
Thank you for this video!! Always enjoy watching your reviews and seeing your recommendations!

just now saw this and I totally agree with you, it's remarkable!

Also I think the last postal trade comes out next week. Excited to finish that series!
Thank you for my Wednesday OmniDog fix.

GREAT idea!!!
Jonathan Ames created a show on HBO called Bored to Death which was pretty good.

Do you think you could do a list of morally driven mature theme comics or trades?
wow, I'm not sure I understand your request. Can you give me an example?

shocked not to see joyride or shutter
Love postal. Saw a tweet from Matt Hawkins that a Postal Season 2 is in the works
Thx for the video and have a great day DOG.
Do you need Criminal 1 if you get Criminal DHC 2? Do you think they reprint them with Criminal out again in floppies
