I dont mean to be so offtopic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Keaton Byron thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
It's just one guys opinion...some cool choices there...It's totally cliche but yes...Alan Moore is one of the greatest....Watchmen is a god damn masterpiece of writing and artwork...and also...the original Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira books...breathtaking
I will have to go with 17 instead of just 10 titles: "Alpha" by Harder, "Batman: The Long Halloween" by Loeb, "Berlin" by Lutes, "Blankets" by Thompson, "Fun Home" by Bechdel, "Ghost World" by Clowes, "Jimmy Corrigan" by Ware, "Julius Corentin Acquefacques" by Mathieu, "Maus" by Spiegelman, "Persepolis" by Satrapi, "The Sandman" and "Violent Cases" by Gaiman, "Stalin's Spy in Tokyo" by Kreitz, "Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms" by Kōno, "Understanding Comics" by McCloud, "V for Vendetta" and "Watchmen" by Moore. These are most likely the best comics I have ever read.
I took this video for what it is. A random guy whos giving his opinion about something he likes and throwing jabs at people who don't share his view (like every single person on youtube comments). I'm an adult who likes superhero movies. He called me dumb. I didn't care or cry. I enjoyed this list. I don't take it as gospel. Well done.
nah, hipsters arn't aloud to like anything new or recent. but seriously i was thinking the same thing, only thing he had that iv read was some of jack kirby's work lol
Why would anything recent be in the running for "greatest of all time" yet? You've got to let things marinate, digest and demonstrate their longevity, influence and unique power. You won't even feel the same about most stuff you love in your teens and twenties, in your 30's and 40's, even if you still enjoy it.
Arian hmn That and there is no such thing as *the* best comic, just a bunch of honorable mentions. Marvel and DC aren't the only people who write comics. Personally, I was surprised he didn't like Y the Last Man...
Two questions: 1) What is being blurred out in the corner? 2) How can he be an "expert" on comics if he doesn't know the background of the Comics Code Authority?
Two answers: 1. That's his porn collection 2. That's because he's a hipster probably only got to comics because of how popular they are now but didn't want to actually know or read the history of them and only read books that he thinks makes him superior than people who have read comics.
nate yule one of the most important beings in marvel lore and a great mystery story (original sin was great as a who killed the watcher story in my opinion) but yeah fuck this guy.
nate yule I mean you can say I don't like fantasy (in terms of Superhero lore) but to all everyone who does idiots and children?, I'm a short 5'2 pudgy Hispanic guy with a pencil mustache that wears superhero tee shirts all the damn time that makes me look like a farm helping nerd but even I look less of a nerd than this guy does.
How about moebius whole work? In my opinion (although I haven't really read that many comics) these were the best I've ever seen. Franco-belgian comics in general are my favorites but this one just sticks out. The artwork is fantastic, although he uses some motives very often and it feel like a repeat, but it's still super detailed and unique and creative. The stories are also very artsy and unique, he really creates his own universes.
This video desperately needed a different title. It's actually pretty informative but it's just so obvious it's just his personal preference with nothing to back it up. With this title and Nick's attitude, the video becomes pointless. Oh well
+Mario Vera while he certainly created one of the biggest comic universes, some (myself included) may view the limited options of the artist in marvel as well as DC comics negative. Comic artists should create their own stuff and not draw characters as the chef wants them. Many actually despise super hero comics for this
+cloberpot Eightball is a tremendous comic series. It's an anthology of short stories. Some of it feels like David Lynch, some of it feels like it could be from Animaniacs or something. It blew my mind, growing up in the 90's, and it was a huge influence on me as a creator. Robert Crumb is amazing too. Watch Crumb, the movie. It's considered one of the best documentaries ever made. And if you hate Carl Barks duck comics you hate all the brilliant things it inspired, like the Indiana Jones movies. As for Maus, you might think it's "meh", but it's the only comic ever to win the Pulitzer Prize. This is a very good list, I'd say. And little of it is obscure in any real sense.
This is Hipster guide to comics (which is a great list). My list would go like this : 1 - Arkham Asylum 2 - Batman the Dark Knight 3 - Daredevil by Frank Miller 4 - Sin City 5 - Ronin 6 - Elektra Lives 7 - George Perez The New Teen Titans 8 - John Byrne's X-Men : Jean Grey's death 9 - John Byrne's X-men : Days of Future Past 10 - John Buscema's Thor vs Silver Surfer
not a bad list, but bit 'all over the map' in terms of date (I.e. when they were released). If we are going back to the 60s, I would think Conan deserves a place on a 'top ten' list. But to each his own.
yep omg I kinda had a crush with the main guy lol. there was a live action movie of it as well and it was equally weird tho the ending wasn't faithful to the manga.
Just another hipster with an opinion. No Moebius, No Albert Uderzo, No Neal Adams, No Grant Morrison, No Neil Gaiman, No Alan Moore, No Chris Claremont, No Frank Miller, No Junji Ito. This gentleman is not the rightest man in the world.

+WiSe Realm If I let people who leave comments on TH-cam videos steer my choices I might turn into the kind of person who calls themselves Wise Realm On the Internet and nobody wants that. I'm here to educate and make you better, not give you validation. I'm right.
+Nicholas Gazin Well, you're right on that about not letting people's opinions change yours. I respect that. Sorry for being rude, I must recognize my mistakes. I should know that by being rude I just make the other person mad and won't consider my opinion, so I must stop being like that. But still, I don't thinkyour video can be considered Education, maybe Information, yes. But anyway, hope you forgive me for my rude behaviour and I also hope you look past the aggressive comments and try to understand why lots of people saw you as a hipster and all that.
At Last, someone who knows what truly great comics are and understands what the medium of comics can be. Many people are under the delusion that the two big comic book companies are Marvel and DC when in actuality the two truly important comic book companies are Fantagraphics and Drawn & Quarterly. I agree with the gist of what Nick Gazin was stating. That said, I too had a soft soft spot for Silver Age DC. I would like to have seen some honourable mentions of American Splendor, World War 3 Illustrated, Palookaville by Seth, Colin Upton's (Other) Big Thing, everything by David Collier, and the stuff Steve Ditko did for Marvel and Carlton. MAD was important to me when I was a youth as it was teaching me to doubt and think critically.
Nick, I genuinely enjoyed this video. Just added a few items to my wish list. Where do you stand on Alan Moore? I'd like to see another video explaining these comics vs traditional superhero comics.
I know I’m Nothing compared To all the other comments, But I absolutely feel that he is correct with this list of top 10. Hernandez bro’s; Daniel clowes, r. Crumb, and Mad magazine. These are the essential pieces of literature that helped me mold into the person I am today. And I wouldn’t change that for the world!
i can agree with nick on the "stan lee taking credit" from other artists during marvel's golden years. jack kirby created the marvel universe and jack kirby also created stan lee.
high concentration of books published by Fantagraphics, complete omission of bande dessinee, only one fumetti (from Fantagraphics). This is an unimaginative list.
TheMadMattster there a bunch of comics that are not super serious; spiderman, young avengers Deadpool, Jsa, superior foes of spiderman, super hero comics haven't been completely super serious since the early 90s.they know when to enjoy themselves.
I’m not into most of the Alternative comics in this list except for Crumb and the Hernandez Brothers, I’d have put Chris Ware’s Acme Novelty Library on this list and Will Eisner’s The Spirit, plus Alan Moore’s Watchmen & Otto Binder & C.C. Beck’s Captain Marvel stories plus Jack Cole’s Plastic-man.
This was actually a really relevant list. From a 12 year vet in the industry we have a lot in common. I would have put Stray Bullets in there though. =D
kirby also created the new god for DC which was an incredibly influential comics that DC still has its characters in its main stream today. also so read swampthing, maus, sandman etc if you want great non traditional super hero comics
Somebody fucking remembers. They weren't cute. They killed people with their weapons. Casey was a metal masked fucking maniac vigilante killer. It didn't have pastel colors, the original Eastman and Laird black and whites was kinda nice. They all had identical outfits, marking someone individually, is not very ninja.
Why do people get so fucking angry with these videos man? Just enjoy them. It's not an insult to your personal opinion. Read the books you like and if you don't like the ones this fella likes...Well. It's just a fucking video. Calm down people.
They aren't on the list cuz they're hack stories. Most of them are ripped off from hack radio shows. Embrace embarrassing hack material at your own peril and avoid mentioning nerdiness while lobbying to have your favorite comics put on a comic book list.
This guy's logic is if it's old it's clearly superior. Also try not to sound like you're gonna fall asleep while talking about things that you supposedly find exciting.
I should hate your list, but I love it, esp. your Number One! In a top twenty, I would include Saga, Persepolis, sections of National Lampoon, Tank Girl, and whatever else I have yet to discover.
saw the mustache, knew exactly the kind of list that would follow
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account??

@Keaton Byron it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy!

@Trenton Dash no problem xD
Did he tie a helpless maiden to some railroad tracks on his way to the studio?
moonman moonman can't you see
...and he rode one of those bicycles with a REALLY big front wheel.
+neversawthatcoming Lol funny af visualisation joke.

Alan Moore would agree with a lot of what he said though.

louisaahh watch his list of best horror
This guys is the definition of condescending hipster.
That's pretty much most of Vice's staff.
That actually looks good on your C.V. when your applying at Vice.
hit the nail on the head
Its vice what do you expect
4:34 Talk’s about about Jack Kirby, camera zooms in on a cover by John Romita jr.
I would add: EC Comics (Pre Comic's Code Authority), Watchmen (Everything Alan Moore), Akira, everything Moebius and Heavy Metal Magazine.
People that dont get that this is a joke, is obviously just comics he love, even the presentation meke it clear, it wasnt supossed to by objective.
vice knew people would get all shitty about it,......and it worked'!!!!
ronniebillhicks Well, is the internet after all.
Joseph CroenianGamer right'?
No ...he is just right
It's obviously a joke. It's just not a good one.

Sadly
Consoul Yes because Scrooge McDuck is an emo icon

Shot's fired....
They're actually all really good
basically leaving out all the fantasy, sci-fi, european, asian and latin american master pieces and focusing on comix

Moebius is so overrated. Druillet is the real genius.
Thig guy definitely says things like "M'Lady"
M'douchebag.
+Nicholas Gazin Hahahahahahahahaha,..........
and then tips his hat
This is list for someone who thinks they know a lot about comics, but who actually has a very shallow knowledge of the medium.
I understand what you mean , but can you elaborate a little bit.
Wow bro u are so edgy omgg
thats pretty hilarious because i think its quite the opposite
I will have to go with 17 instead of just 10 titles:
"Alpha" by Harder, "Batman: The Long Halloween" by Loeb, "Berlin" by Lutes, "Blankets" by Thompson, "Fun Home" by Bechdel, "Ghost World" by Clowes, "Jimmy Corrigan" by Ware, "Julius Corentin Acquefacques" by Mathieu, "Maus" by Spiegelman, "Persepolis" by Satrapi, "The Sandman" and "Violent Cases" by Gaiman, "Stalin's Spy in Tokyo" by Kreitz, "Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms" by Kōno, "Understanding Comics" by McCloud, "V for Vendetta" and "Watchmen" by Moore.

Sandman easily trumps anything on that list and most would call that recent, take off your rose coloured glasses
I wouldn't call Sandman recent and obviously not 21st century.
No 2000 a.d !?! You are a laughing stock sunshine. Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison, Garth Ennis etc...
He didn't put any European comics on his list... Not only 2000 AD, but also Moebius and Métal hurlant (Heavy Metal)...
so much butthurt people on the comments, I'm actually enjoying this ride, hope we hear something from him again

i like him, not sure why everyone is getting so wound up about this.
It's a comment section that ranks pop culture, these sorts of things always get pretty heated.
Especially when the person doing so is as sarcastic as he is.
Because he didn't mention Mr. Super Gritty Frank Miller and/or TDKR.
