    "The young man of today is ashamed of his past, alienated from his ancestors, and disconnected from the spiritual world that once sustained him."
    This so perfectly describes how Graham must have felt early into becoming Legate, and even more so as the older man we meet him as, despite him going full throttle into born-again Mormonism to try to reconnect with that past, his spiritualism, and his now murdered ancestors.

    “People fear death even more than pain. It's strange that they fear death. Life hurts a lot more than death. At the point of death, the pain is over."
    -Jim Morrison

    • @unknowncommenter6698
      @unknowncommenter6698 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Well, fear of death is supposed to serve few things for us. First of all, it's sort of a counter to "call of the void". You know, that feeling when you're on the edge of some high place, a cliff or some man-made platform. You have a weird feeling that makes you want to jump, yet you don't. You start fearing death at that moment because of safe mechanism in your brain. You need to be alive to keep your bloodline, so that's why people evolved to have that thing.
      Second of all, people fear what happens in afterlife, as well as losing connection to their family/friends/etc.
      Maybe there's something else to it, I don't know yet. Didn't come up with it for now.

    • @unknowncommenter6698
      @unknowncommenter6698 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @Fauch2ouch well, if you don't believe in any afterlife, then sure, you wouldn't care. But if you do and (if you're Christian and it turns out God is real) you didn't confess your sins before dying... tough luck, buddy, you're going straight to sea of burning sulfur and teeth grinding or smth.

      I fear death because I fear the emptiness and total loss of freedom represented by it. I don’t mind pain when experienced for justifiable reasons. I think pain can be extremely important actually and can build character in someone by facing and overcoming it. There’s nothing to be gained from facing death though, because it’s the very thing that consumes all possibilities from ever occurring again in one’s existence upon meeting it.
      So yeah, fuck death imo. I am baffled by how so many people are at peace with it, when I view it as the ultimate tyrant of the universe.

    I clicked on this by total mistake yet once it started I hung on every word and even rewinded and re-listened once or twice to let it sink in.
    "Great minds ponder ideas and philosophy , medium minds speak on events and news and lower minds gossip about people"
    Those who lack propose is life seek out distraction in pleasure , I can't remember the exact passage and I'm paraphrasing but even the Bible mentions something about "delayed gratification or denying thyself".

    My favorite and most relevant quote to my life was "It is in the moment of crises that a man must look beyond his immediate desires and embrace a deeper sense of purpose".
    It just kinda sticks with me.
    I just really connect with how society offers all these pleasures that provide you with no challenge for growth, and the worse you feel the deeper you sink into them. and when i heard that line it was a bit of a reality check for me and I'm always saying it to myself when I notice myself veering away into desire/pleasure.

    I feel that. Like trying to be a wife seems like more trouble than it's worth. It seems common that people can't commit because of fear. And female empowerment doesn't help that, because women like men are reduced to their ability to work, and are told to go to college even though it is usually a waste of time. I don't really have a choice but to embrace stereotypically masculine approaches to life. Society demands workers, and I have to survive.
    I have questioned if I am brainwashed into being comfortable in obedience. My entire childhood and adolescents was just listening, and going along with everything.

      I agree. In my experience, a lot of Gen Z lost boys or Boomers often point the finger at video games as a straw-man when they have nothing constructive to apply to a specific issue. "Well that Transgender shot up that school, because you shoot up an airport in Call of Duty." Ok, bro. Nice correlation. Way to display your overt apathetic nature in regards to understanding your descendants. Yet again, in my experience, I would hazard to say that video games (and books) saved me from my broken home where all of the suffering of my respective parental units was because they made the mistake of copulating. Mom screaming at me because I look like Dad? Halo Reach Matchmaking. Dad bitching about having to pay child support like it's my fault? Time to play Halo 2 Campaign for the 78th time. Also, what fucking frontiers are left for young men? Where are they suppose to turn? Looks maxing and martial arts serve toward the end game of attracting female attention from what I've seen, and femoids have since become quite transparent in their regards to men being just vending machines for their unending desires. So use 'em and lose 'em. However, it can serve to cultivate male bonds that last but I just don't see them anywhere given that all masculine spaces have been invaded by the Marxist acid that is feminism. I mean the only truly masculine environs I've experienced in my life was in my military service. I have yet to experience anything so potently masculine in the civilian world. Need to cope, because men are the most expendable they ever have been in human history? Guess I'll play Darktide with randos.

    I just want to point out that certain Eastern cultures also suffer low birth rates, overwork, and other issues. Take Japan for instance. The low birth rates are making the majority of the population elderly people. Arguably worse is that the quality of life is poor and $uicide rates are high due to people being overworked and facing high expectations. There's more to the problems they face but to put it simply, Eastern cultures have their own problems.
