Oh this is why it tastes so good... Yesterday had zaara rice and daal (daal chawal) it tasted so good... I have never tasted this kinda tasty daal in my life.
Thank you very much for this recipe. Your recipes (amit and misal pav) have made me fall in love with Maharastrian cuisine. This is my go to recipe! Takes me back to my early childhood, when I used to go to a vegetarian maharashtrian babysitter aunty! God bless her and God bless you!
Mr. Varun... being a Mumbaikar surrounded by Maharashtrians...luv Amti a lot...Thnx for the receipe shall prepare n revert. Post some more typical Maharashtrian receipes...I luv it. Varunji u talk so nicely n receipe explaining too good....God Bless....

Hi Varun.. Gr8 recipie & presentation of amti. But I would like to know what is the difference between varan & amti... Coz this recipie is very very similar to our varan recipie where we add tamarind & jaggery instead of amsool & sugar. Pls let me know the difference. Thanks in advance😊
Not much can be done. Well in India Goda masala is available most spice stores in the West of India. Amti can be made without it too but of course won't taste the same :-)
Easy and Yummy 😋😋😋 recipe. For sure worth making it. Very well explained and demonstrated. Instead of suggesting to buy Goda Masala from market, if you show us how to make our Own will be... Home-made is homemade and 100% Pure
Kokam is peel of fruit of Garcinia indica tree. The fruit pulp is consumed in various ways and peels are harvested and salted for later use. It has sour taste to it.
Goda masala is a special spice blend unique to Maharashtrian cuisine. the spices used here are aromatic spices and these lend a subtle sweet aroma without hints of pungency & heat. So when you smell goda masala, you won’t sense the heat & pungency which is felt in other spice blends like garam masala and its variations. Hence this masala gets translated in english to sweet masala. Sweet not in taste but in aroma. “god or goda” (not pronounced as god the creator, but ‘go’ and ‘da’ as in ‘d’ of ‘dumb’) means sweet in marathi. the nature of this spice blend is also complex in terms of flavor and depth
Already subscribed and an easy 'Thumb Up' for yet another great recipe which we made last night and really enjoyed. We used all the ingredients shown in your recipe including 4 pieces of Kokum which, we soaked in warm water for a few minutes before squeezing and adding the mixture to the Dal. We expected the dish to have a tangy, slightly sour taste but it didn't so we added a little Tamarind concentrate. Maybe our Kokum has lost it's original flavour - we have had it a few months but it is stored in a sealed packet.
Hi Varun, am huge fan of you. You describe all recipes very nicely and in very unassuming ways. But unfortunately I suppose you haven't posted any videos in this lockdown . Why so ? Pls give a thoght to it!

Sir ,
What is Kokum and goda masala??! Love from Germany 🇩🇪
Kokam is peel of fruit of Garcinia indica tree. The fruit pulp is consumed in various ways and peels are harvested and salted for later use. It has sour taste to it.
