  • We enter the decade of the 1980s, starting with 1980!
Also I forgot to mention that PBS sign offs are omitted for the regular stations only, but there will be a PBS sign-off compilation of course, it will be two parts because it is three hours long in total.
All content in this video are owned by the original owners.

Well... At 14:49 we got one of ours (which is NOT USUAL in American signoff recompilations), from WKAQ-TV (Channel 2 / 2-1), the founding station (est. 3/1954) of what is now Comcast's Telemundo Network.
(it is the only station that I know that uses "The Victory Sign with 2 fingers" as part of their logo, created in 1979 and still used as part of their newest logo in 2021)
The announcer for the bilingual signoff was the official VO person for many years, Prof. Manuel Esteban Alegría and was from the 1979-84 era, as it was when they had WOLE-TV on Aguadilla in The Island's NW corner (Channel 12 / 12-1, est. in 1958) as its' affiliate (now is owned by Tele11, the new Lieberman-owned Univisión affiliate).

...and it is NOT THE NORM locally (check my other comment for details of what I know of this signoff). The thing that followed this signoff was both Puerto Rico (La Borinqueña) and the USA (The Star Spangled Banner) anthems.

0:38 - KCOP-13 sign-off by legendary radio DJ and TV announcer Charlie O'Donnell, best known for "Wheel of Fortune" (1975-80 + '88 until his passing in 2010).

At 12:46 is the CBS Billings, Montana affiliate KTVQ sign-off (formerly secondary NBC and PBS affiliate station). KTVQ is now owned by the E.W. Scripps Company, and is a Montana Television Network station.

A rare television station signoff done in English and Spanish is from Puerto Rico.

It's because Puerto Rico is bilingual (Spanish and English). And the fact that Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory from the United States.

I didn't know that the Television Code logo changed its looks 44 years ago. Once had the olive branches and the slogan " Seal of Good Practice" replaced by " Broadcasts in the Public Interest"... something like that...and I do remember watching sign offs of WXON, now WMYD Channel 20, WDIV LOCAL 4, WJBK, now WWJ ( Channel 4's ORIGINAL call letters ) CBS Detroit 62 and WKBD, the now Former CW 50 with various religious sign offs from the....let me see if I get this right, Interfaith Broadcasters of Greater Detroit ( close enough ) and various SSB's.....namely the MOOG version of the SSB, pretty Hi-Tech stuff back then, but then again, when you're 10 years old, you just getting started in life....sort of 😁. But a wonderful compilation of sign offs from 1980. Nowadays it's overnight news and other stuff that rules the airwaves, but those were the days, you know when 12:30 or 1:00am comes, that's all she wrote...such memories...
It's COMMISSION...thank you WXYZ ABC-7 for the kindly CORRECT name of what I WAS trying to say! Now I'm done 😉!
