I can't help it, if all the world is ending All the life is gone while you're calling out this name Where are the Americans? Your dimmed conscience, your hands and eyes that wander Stumbling down the road Or collapsing on parade Or lying alone in the eastern light Sleeping in the morning hours, the only sound From the lantern covered hills, the only light From the day yet to begin, the only sign Of the guns in silhouette The only sound, the only light Only, only! Our dull silence, our disconnected lives Pull out the lightning dust At the mention of his name Whither the Americans! Shake the memories off, hide the evidence under Piss on the world below Like a dog that knows its name Where are the Americans? All calling on their own tonight Filling the remaining hours The only sounds are the bells upon the hill, the only light Are the lanterns in the wind, the only sight Skims the rust off the rails The only sound, the only light Only, only! The only light is the day yet to begin The only sign of the lives in silhouette The only sound is the rushing of the wind The only light is not the only life Only, only!
Thank you to Welcome To Nightvale podcast, I immediately stopped what I was doing and sent this to a friend who ONLY listens to 80s/90s,or before. He might actually like it,but I'll still win because it's newer.
I discovered this song from Maggie Steifvater but I just discovered it's featured on Night Vale (i'm up to episode 28 so I'll have to wait) and OMG if I did not love this song already now I do.
This band just keeps on evolving and they win me over every time. So solid. Such a powerful song with a very memorable video. Only negative for me being why, oh why, did she have to cut off all that beautiful hair.
I'm glad I went back through WTNV to listen to the whole episode, not just skip the weather every time...although I'm curious as to the story behind the video
I'm compelled to comment, because no one seems to really understand what this video is about. This is an advertisement for the boutique hair salon in Oxbow, Mississippi. It's by the East Shore, North Creek neighborhood off 55, "EshoNorc", or as it sometimes gets labeled, "the hipster enclave of the South", though I don't think the derogatory term hipster is appropriate. The woman in the video is a top stylist, not sure if she's even American, but she is incredibly serious about her work and her personalized take on every customer's do. She wants to know the customer as best she can during the time-limited appointment, and see them express themselves emotionally so she will know exactly what is right for their "head canvas". The kid who shows up at the end of the video is the manager or owner who takes a particular pride in inspecting each stylist's work. It's a cool place, not on Yelp. Good haircut, fun karaoke experience.
It seems he sings it more truly in this video than in the written lyrics online. I hear it as "Your Culture" as if this song is speaking of Western Civ being the only light in the world and heir to a new Rome.
This is my all time favourite weather!
Sometimes when I get haircuts, I sing this song at my stylist. She charges me double.
I heard this during The Weather and was blown away at how much his voice sounded like Bowie... New fan for sure

this band always leaves me in awe.

My favourite from the album. I get euphoric every time I listen to it. So addictive ❤️
I know exactly what you mean. This song is perfect. It will never get old, no matter how many times I listen to it!
Freaking phenomenal song!!! Takes me back to the great 80's!!!! So beautifully constructed!!!

I'm here from the future to report that it grew back nicely :)
One of my favourite bands of all time. have been for years, and this video just BLEW MY FRIGGIN' MIND. These guys never fail to do that to me.
Muse with an '80 feel!
Instant fan of this band.
I have been obsessed with them from the moment I heard this song
Horray!!!!!! Love this band, love the album! This single is just AMAZING!
Just saw them in NYC at the Bowery Ballroom... Awesome show. They played their hearts out!
Can't wait for Shearwater's Terminal West show in Atlanta in 11 days.
Love love LOVE this!!!
I'm glad I found this band. not what I expected them to sound like from genre tags alone!
Shearwater is really great!!! Another great album with so many sounds to discover!
LOVE IT. Looking forward V much to seeing you dudes in Islington!
Discovered them on the release of Animal Joy. This is another great album. Brilliant.
Yet another great track.
some times from the first note of a song you can tell you'll like it
Very good!
Beautiful song so beautiful.
I'm glad I went back through WTNV to listen to the whole episode, not just skip the weather every time...although I'm curious as to the story behind the video
Wow...so beautiful! 💓
Jonathan looks like Scott walker. Great voice great band!

Arcade Fire - It’s Never Over (Hey Orpheus)
Fabulous 👏👏👏
Amazing song!

Cool video, for a nice tune!
Jonathan lindo!!❤
Wow!
love them
I like this. Reminds me of Bowie.
Dang. I'm impressed. They did this shot in, presumably, one take--- wouldn't be much hair there to start over if they made a mistake while filming!
This song lasts two weeks.
says the person who's watching the video 11 months after it's posted
its a nightvale reference
Wish it did
@@buddyzee It lasted two weeks for Kareem.
my favorite song right now ❤ incredible video; so simple but it speaks volumes.
criminally underrated band
I was just listening to CBC's "The Current," can someone tell me the name of Jonathan Myburgh's book?

lulwut
Who is that shaving Jonathan's head? Is that Le Roux? :O
Episode 99 : Michigan
Jet Plane and Oxbow is out now!
megamart.subpop.com/releases/shearwater/jet_plane_and_oxbow
4th of July playlist!...
Count of hands, how many folks here came from Night Vale?
JM's voice makes my clothes unwearable.
does anybody know the guitar chords for this wonderful song?
The singer in this vid always makes me think of "the Caddy" from the show Line of Duty.
comments are great just as this song and video
ебать коменты хороши, как песня и клип

if you like this check out big black delta. another great band

*looks at Quiet Americans music video*
Me: I think there was a slight budget increase.
This was a very cheap video to make, actually. One take! (IT)
it sounds like the 80's, for good and for worst, but it rocks!
cool :) thank you
Great song. Also, who's the beautiful person manhandling the hot singer?
+Moira Russell his normal real-life hairdresser!
+Moira Russell Leah Haberer - I believe she is actually his hairdresser.
Yeah, and the kid at the end is her son!
... That's kind of brilliant.
So few comments…
And now, slaves of the cloud, THE WEATHER
ALL HAIL
Amazing Band and Song. 80th Flashback yeah
Woohoo!
catchy
There is a lot of new music that is borrowing heavy on early to mid 80's synth pop. I like it though. Wish I was born about 10 years or so earlier.
Come si fa ad essere così bravi e non famosi? try to say it in english... How can they be so talented and not famous (at least here in Italy)?
An interrogation is definitely not not what I picture when I listen to this song.... o.O
His voice reminds me of David Bowie
You should watch Shearwater’s full cover of David Bowie’s Lodger album!
It seems he sings it more truly in this video than in the written lyrics online.
I hear it as "Your Culture" as if this song is speaking of Western Civ being the only light in the world and heir to a new Rome.
Original!
2020 gang
Idk why but this vocalist reminds me of David Bowie
Tweeted @musosguide
;) ;) ;)
This was siick.
for some odd reason this music video really took me out of the music. It's well made and all but it just looks strange paired with the music.
I agree with you. I love this song, can't get it out of my head, but I did not like the video. I think it was a little too "on the nose"
for some reason I thought that the band knows what their song means and how the video relates to that but golly! was I wrong
Love this song so much but the video is incredibly boring! I imagined the video so much differently!
mediano
Hipsters aping the 80's is getting mundane, please come up with something original.
@@detectivewiggles I agree, that would be you.
Oh, cope and seethe ya senior citizen.
trying too hard to be depeche mode
some times from the first note of a song you can tell you'll like it
and sometimes we have to hear a few times to love the songs... ;)
just joking!
