Being plant based, these are the must have ingredients I always keep in our home and I would love to know what your must have ingredients are. I am also aware that most of you probably don't follow a plant based diet and was wondering if you would like to share any other ingredients that you keep stocked for others who may be interested 😊
I always use white vinegar as a fabric softener it’s so good for the machine as it doesn’t clog the hoses and you can’t smell it on the washing, super frugal
Great tip. Does it help with static cling when it goes to the dryer? My dryer balls don’t seem to stop the static and that’s the main reason I was using the dryer sheets. (I don’t use the liquid kind anyways).
I just found you! Your new frugal friend in Central Texas loves this channel. One frugal tip from the US, I have always been told to keep toasted sesame oil in the fridge to keep from going rancid.
I love red lentils and will make that my fourth video in the series for sure. They are so healthy and cheap. I buy mine at Woolworths and they often have them on special for $2.50 a kilo bag, but they are just $3.50 normally anyway. :)
@@RowenaMarie Thank you! I am really looking forward to this one! Just watched the video on oats... Oats are always a staple in our home so I can't wait to give these a go. I am most excited about the savoury oats, I didn't even know you could make savoury dishes with oats!
We always have jars/cans of salsa, sliced black olives, coconut milk and cream and several of the things that you spoke about. I have recently found your channel and have been thoroughly enjoying watching your videos. Thanks for all of the encouragement to keep on the frugal pathway.
Hi, I'm in Texas, and I would add tortillas to the list. I can put a simple meal on the table in under 10 minutes, when I have tortillas, rice and beans in the fridge. Throw in different leftovers like grated cheese, chicken, onions, so many combinations, and dirt cheap!
I'm adding another comment. I love how you use so many different cultures to bring recipes together that work with relatively few basic staples. Smart and delicious
Hi Jen, thanks for the tip, I don't visit the reject shop that often as there isn't one where I usually shop, but I will definitely take a look when I get a chance next.
I actually picked up some stewed tomatoes at my local Aldi today and yep, they were 60 cents a can. Actually, they had been cheaper, but prices are going up. Aldi is my usual go-to place for canned goods, dairy and some produce. I do pinto and great northern beans from scratch in my pressure cooker. I go elsewhere for marked-down meats and chicken. I try to keep my freezer full of those and bagged veggies like broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, homemade soups and stews. You are a world away from my place here in Ohio (Midwest USA), and from childhood, I've wanted to visit your country. I'll have to settle for watching your channel, lol.
Hi Cynthia, nice to have you here 😊. I also only buy certain products at Aldi. They have great prices on some tinned goods, natural peanut butter, raw cashews and frozen veggies. I also buy my washing liquid there. I have a local growers mart nearby where I get the best pics on fresh fruit and veg so shop there for that. It pays to know where you can get the best prices from. 🌸
This was brilliant! I loved how you quickly ran through recipes. I love the way you are plant based as well... me too :) Some very tasty ideas here, I think nearly all of those items are in my kitchen, so no excuses now
Hi Michelle, great to have you here :). I shall make a note to do a future video on dried chickpeas and show how to cook them in the pressure cooker plus make felafel's. When making felafel's, you don't cook the chickpeas, but soak them overnight and then blitzed in the food processor uncooked. Thanks for the request
@@RowenaMarie looking forward to that video, I’ve tried making falafels before with not a great success, I have a pressure cooker which I need to use more so any videos would be greatly appreciated. Blessings from Canberra
@@millygit The secret to falafel success is: soak your chickpeas, blend them with spices and herbs and... a cooked potato. The potato will act as a binder and the falafels won't be too dry.
We also grow many different kinds of herbs, vegies, have a lime tree, and am cultivating an avocado tree....also learnt how to pickle and preserve an excess of produce... like Chillies, cucumbers.....
Hi Sheree, we have also begun to grow our own vegetables, we have turned our front garden into a vegetable patch 😊. Our back garden is filled with fruit trees in pots, all very young at the moment, as we only moved into our home a year ago and made the decision to start trying to grow as much of our own produce as we could. I am really excited for when they start producing more 🌸
Dried Shitake mushrooms for Risotto etc, and Miso paste is good instead of stock or for a starter soup - or to take to work in a thermos .....packet bread mixes can be good for Pizza, rolls, or Calzone.....
No mustard?! Goodness... I like to always keep a blok of firm tofu in my freezer. The texture becomes quite interesting when it's been frozen and it seems even more able to absorb flavours. And if I get lucky enough to find tempeh somewhere, I stock up and keep those in the freezer as well. I also cannot live without bananas and potatoes.
Hi MSc, yes I always have mustard and I have tofu in my freezer….I’ve mentioned that in another video…😊….I do also have potatoes and bananas, flour, maple syrup, quinoa, nutritional yeast and chillies…😂…but I had to have a cut off point somewhere so I chose what ingredients can be easily put together for meals…🌸
There’s nothing particularly frugal regarding the pantry items…most people have these items. My aim is to become less reliant on mainstream supermarkets - instead of buying tinned chickpeas from the supermarket, purchase a 5kg bag from the Indian supermarket and boil your own for hummus or chickpea recipes. I’ve recently started purchasing tomatoes by the box from a produce market and preserve them by water bath method….an ongoing supply of the equivalent of tinned tomatoes from the supermarket. Massive savings 😊
Hi Eddie, thanks. Yes I just about always have potatoes, they are certainly a staple, but I wanted this to be a list of things that can be kept on hand in the pantry and freezer so I kept the perishables out of it 😊
@@RowenaMarie yea that makes perfect sense Rowena , just from a spud loving country was shocked to not see them in their lol, Immediately before Christmas they were an amazing 19 p per 2,5 kg bag in Aldi here , not sure how that translate into Aussie cents , but is virtually giving them away ,been bingeing on FIRE , frugality and minimalist content over the hols and you're up there with the best on TH-cam, anyway toodlepip , have a great New Year with your Hubby
Hi Eddie, thank you so much, that is high praise ☺️. Yeah that’s very cheap for potatoes. Earlier this year my local spudshed (which is a local fresh produce store) was giving away 4 kilos of brushed potatoes for free, so of course I got my free potatoes and made good use of them 😂. They often have amazing deals on produce so I always buy my fruit and veg there. Happy new year to you too Eddie 🌸
Freeze your rice for three days when you get it home. This kills any potential eggs laid in the rice. Gross? Better than little black rice bugs! They come in with the rice, not from your home.
Your carrots are very cheap, for the same bag we pay 3.99 or more. Onions are 3,99. but I buy them anyway. yellow and red peppers always costs more, so we buy the green peppers. Thought you would like to know.
This is the second vlog of yours I've watched. Stuff missing that jumped out at me: Eggs, cheese sticks or shredded cheese, ground turkey, salmon, seasoned pork loin. Also, Dollar Tree fig newtons, dates, seasoned crackers..:)
