    Julia, You are so wonderfully creative, just full of great ideas. I am so inspired by your work. I keep telling myself to get out some scraps and give free motion a go, but haven't yet. Maybe this weekend.Thanks for sharing your fun and colorful ideas. Take care, try to stay warm, be safe. My dad was from Minnesota. He said Minnesota has two seasons...shovel and swat! Much love.

    Hi Julia, I'm always amazed when you play with fabric and paint/watercolor. You mentioned a quilt you and your sister made complete out of yoyos. Would you share a picture of it and teach us the basics of sewing the yoyos together? (side by side? overlapping?) Perhaps you can do the front of a little pouch out of yoyos to demonstrate it? You and your videos always light up my day. Greetings from Germany! Stay safe, Swantje

      Hi Swantje, It is always great hearing from you. I will quiz my sister-in-law about her yo-yo techniques. I'm sure she also has a picture of the bed cover that she made. A pouch front would be an awesome idea. Hope you are staying safe, my state has many new cases and restrictions are back in place. Ugh.

    Julia, as a fellow watercolorist, I love this! I’m freaked out by zippers. I have made a pouch but the zippers are odd on ends and do not lay right. When you say teeth toward lining, are you pinching the zipper on the end to do that? It seems like it needs to be flat to lay right not pinched. Learning to sew.

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, For years, I avoided zippers like the plague. Creating these pouches have really helped. Yes, I am pinching the zipper so the teeth are towards the lining. It may roll a bit when you are sewing but It seems to end well. You may have to walk your sewing machine over that part of the zipper. I hope you give it a try. Julia

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Julie, A lighter colored fabric would work best. Watercolor is fairly transparent. It you wanted to paint on dark fabric, use fabric paints or acrylic paint with a fabric medium. Also cotton works best. Thanks for watching, Julia

    Hi Julia, thanks for all your wonderful ideas. Your work and instructions are so well done. I as wondering you mentioned not to wash the pouch other than spot clean , but should i wash the material first before cutting or doing the project?. Thanks

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to wash the pouch in the washing machine, I would pre-wash the fabric. I've had good luck washing the watercolor without fading etc. You will want to heat-set the color after the paint drys. I'm so glad you are enjoying my projects. Julia

    This is so fresh and fun - I never would have thought of painting with watercolor on fabric but you do it to great effect! I learned about Frixion erasable pens from you and have been using them and now I see you using this different brand - do you like it better?

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Maggie, The Frixion and the heat erase fabric pens are very similar. Quilters have been using the Frixion for years but they are not intended for fabric. The others are made for fabric. Honestly, I think they're the same pen! I always test before using because streaks can occur with either. Thanks so much for watching! Julia

    QUESTION: Hi Julia. Love the pouches. Would you recommend that all material similar to the pouch be pre washed before applying watercolor paints? Same goes for the canvas type grocery tote bags. Thanks

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Phyllis, I don't always prewash, but it is a good idea if you are painting. It helps remove some of the sizing in the fabric. I find that the watercolor paints are quite staining and work well on cotton fabrics. The sizing could prevent the paint from sinking into the fibers. Sounds like a fun project! Good luck, Julia
