So if I could comment on something you said. Wolf's greatsword isn't just any greatsword but a German Zweihander. This massive sword was used by infantry to take out enemy cavalry units (knignts on horseback) by swinging low and cutting the horse's legs. One could say that this weapon was used by the lower classes (common infantry) to strike back at the higher classes (well armored and funded knights) kind of how Zenkichi (probably misspelled that) a low-ranking inspector is going after the much higher politicians and businessmen who killed his wife and assisted in the cover up.
Something you could've mentioned in the video: Sophia's "Pandora" isn't the only representation of Pandora in the Persona séries. In contrast to this Pandora, one who represents the hope now finally freed from inside the box, we have Maki's Pandora, aka the final boss of Persona 1, and a being that represent all the evils from the box, turning into a mass of nihilistic desires who's only wish is to end the world. Interestingly, this wasn't the only time a Neo-Persona game would reinterpret a deity that already appeared in P1.
I am a huge Les Mis fan and I was absolutely blown away when I saw Valjean included as a persona! Looking back on Zenkichi's character though, I'm not sure if he really fits that well. Like sure, as you've said there are many parallels with Valjean's journey, but I feel that Javert is a better fit. For example, when Valjean had to choose to turn himself in to save an innocent, it was Javert who suspected he was guilty and became unable to arrest him after someone else had been falsely accused to be Valjean, much like how Zenkichi knew who killed his wife but couldn't do anything after someone else confessed. Also, Zenkichi's awakening is triggered from his resolve to bring justice to a criminal (much like our favorite Inspector Javert), which is very out of character for Valjean who only seems to support retribution when he's on the receiving end (This is the 'merciful saint' who did many stupid things including forgiving his daughter's abuser so long as he left the country). There are other things like that, but what really makes me wonder if he was originally legit supposed to have Javert is his codename Wolf, which is an animal that Javert is very commonly likened to but has very weak association with Valjean. Despite all that, there is of course another parallel with Valjean that is honestly my favorite. You talked about Cosette and Marius, but it's also worth noting that Marius will eventually join a group of revolutionaries because he believes he'll never see Cosette again. Once Valjean finds out about Cosette's feelings, he ends up joining the group of revolutionaries too in order to protect him. This mirrors Akane's unfortunate crush on Joker/admiration of the revolutionary phantom thieves and Zenkichi's joining of the phantom thieves, but again he has completely different motivations from his literary counterpart.
Glad to see you back! I loved your P4 Symbolism, I often come back to it for how memorable it is. Can't wait to see what more content you make in the future!
Noce video! I noticed some things about Akechi, Sumire, and Maruki from Persona 5 Royal, actually. *SPOILERS FOR P5R!!!* Akechi’s Black Mask form is somewhat of a reflection of his Crow form, with him now being a black night instead of a white one. Also, his third tier Persona, Hereward, is interesting is interesting in that it’s the only third tier that isn’t a version of the user’s first tier, being a totally different person than Robin Hood. Finally, it could be assumed that Robin Hood’s design is based off of Superman, while Hereward is Batman. Second is Sumire. Her outfit is heavily based off of Joker’s, possibly referencing how much she relies on him. Her Persona, Cendrillon, is supposed to be Cinderella, specifically at the beginning of her story. Cinderella’s real name is Ella, but has taken the name of Cinderella, referencing how Sumire took Kasumi’s identity. Her second tier represents her change, and her third tier, Ella, represents how she has accepted who she is. Her rapier could be a parallel to Joker’s knife, but with a more exquisite twist. (I do t think exquisite is the best word to describe it, but I couldn’t think of a better word) Her outfit most notably contains a leotard, often used for gymnastics. Finally, we have Maruki. His golden outfit could be someone using a bright, flashy color to guide others, but I feel like that’s a stretch. His Persona, Azathoth, was regarded as the strongest being in H. P. Lovecraft’s stories, of which everything was created, even creature such as Cuthulu, Nyarlathothep, and Yog-Sogoth. (I probably missed one of those) This represents how he made his own world, how he created it all. I tried to understand who Adam Kadmon was, but my small brain could only understand a small part, and that is I think he was some kind of prototype of man. That’s all I got. Again, great video!
