I feel like lore can be squeezed from this. Like, under those normal eye sockets, there is a LOT more, sitting in the hollow skull, viewing how the human acts. Those eyes can act like parasites, since Sans is a hollow skeleton (in most cases). His personality and the way he acts may come from the eyes, as if the eyes are his very own brain. But it really puts the monster in monster kind in Undertale.
