I live in Stoke-On-Trent but never go to Hanley. Maybe I've been into the city centre once or twice in the last 15 years or so? But as a kid it was a buzzing place and we're only talking 20 years ago! It sickens me to see the amount of stores that are now bookies/slots/casinos. I never really understood how grim Stoke-On-Trent is until I saw it compared to big cities like Manchester. It's a ghost town in comparison and I don't really believe it will ever get better without some sort of revolutionary plan.
It’s not only Stoke that is this way, it’s an issue across all UK high streets that I visit. Seems most of shopping is now done online so stores can’t stay open. Only things around are bookies, barbers and takeaways
@@scenicrouteyt Ye I think online shopping has killed all the centres of medium sized places like stoke. It's only big places that still thrive because they have so much going on that people are drawn to those places for many more reasons than retail. In fact it's created a drain-effect in that, as Hanley has demised then more and more people from stoke will catch the train to manchester for the day instead of going to Hanley; so it's a double-edged sword.
@ShellysAshes yeah that makes sense, it’s such a shame. I live in a tiny little village now and one of my favourite things is the sense of community, people use local businesses and spend their money with other people in the village. This unfortunately doesn’t exist anymore in towns.
If you have only been into the city centre once or twice a week you cant have an opinion, and its the likes of you that have contributed to it being like it is.
I’m impressed I have seen back streets and they looked dirty rundown The main roads and shopping area looks good banks still open etc but not many people shopping because a lot of the shops have gone it used to be busy maybe it was Sunday
They have a designer shop in the potteries. Every jackets a thousand pounds each. Next to rough and Ruby the youth club where kids have about a 5er. I don't understand the potteries town planning. Empty units above shops and homeless people everywhere and new immigration to complicate our already multi ethnic transient working class, hunger games competition I'm sure the people in the grand jackets have a plan An adgenda for the place But looks like I got bombed out and replaced by big chains Hearts gone out the place Everywhere there was music once x
Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle Borough Council have a lot to answer for. What's the point in having pretty pavements if they've forced all the motorists out of the town centre to shop? Go down the road to Festival Park and the retail parks and supermarket are fairly bustling. Yes some big box retailers have gone under or online, but once upon a time you could go in to Hanley town centre and actually shop.
Why do town centres get rid of roads and replace them with paved walkway things that cars can still drive on? 🤔 Also, that’s the most random placed B&M (12:04) I think I’ve ever seen! 😂
Stoke on Trent the city that made me. If you don't have a heart, come here. The people have enough heart for everything And the people with the money have none

Good evening! It's a very quiet area. The streets are almost empty.
Yeah it was on a weekday lunchtime so not many people outside, I guess most are at work.
Thanks for the watch

Yeah it definitely used to be a lot busier.
This was filmed on a Thursday afternoon
Nothing in town centres these days shame to see towns die out.
It’s a sad sign of the times. Unfortunately the high streets can’t compete with the likes of Amazon

@ElizabethMcDermott-cy4cv yeah it’s sad to see, I can only hope that things start to take around the whole country soon
Moving here next week. Any tips or pointers?
Not from me I’m afraid, that was my only time visiting.

Seems to be the overwhelming amount of towns in the UK are unfortunately heading in the same direction

Yeah I don’t know, makes it more confusing as to if you have to watch out for cars or not.
😂 I know, makes me think they are B&M flats
@@scenicrouteyt B&M flats! Full of apartments with “Live, Laugh, Love” on the walls! 🤣
😂😂🫠
Well why would anyone need to drive on them other than find somewhere to park?
what are them awful things to sit on and so many defibrillators around and casino's
Watch out for the dust heads lol
😂 there was definitely a few questionable characters about
@@scenicrouteyt yep dust heads it’s like zombie world in hanley lol

Very nice 👏🏼
And seems to be very true from what I’ve seen
Well...
Not a fan?..
@@scenicrouteyt few nice victorian buildings but the rest...
Why do these bloggers always do their vids in stoke on a Sunday?
I was there on a Thursday I believe. Less busy on a weekday
Hanley is a dump.
Definitely not the nicest town I’ve visited
