2018 is a brilliant movie however i am not surprised its out of the oscar race.. Its not oscar material to be honest .. There have been World Class movies from India previously that have not made it to the top 5 nomination list of Best Foreign Film Category in Oscars from India.. U have had movies like Hey Ram, Virumaandi, Uthama Villian, Pushpaka Vimana, Mahanadhi, Guna, Thevar magan, Kuruthipunal, Vanaprastham, Kaalapaani, Thondimuthulam Drikshakshiyum, Sparsh, Vidheyan, Sagara Sangamam, Nayagan, Mathilukal, Puzhu, Karnan, Guide, Mughal- e- azam, Rang de Basanti, Bandit Queen, Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke Phool, Moondram Pirai, Pathinaaru Vayathinile, Visaaranai, Peranbu, Mullum Malarum, Paruthiveeran etc. that have not won Oscars or won in Cannes, Berlin etc..

FFI needs some Hollywood technicians to choose the best International film from India... These Indians will fight among themselves to send a movie for oscars... Film depicts things as it it. Why watch a movie, just watch prior scenes from TV available on youTube. As a person from Kerala, I will be happy if Hindi movie "12th fail" wins award at the Oscars.
2018 was thrown out of Oscars in the preliminary round itself. Same as Jallikattu. What is Oscar is looking for is Original stories. Many Malayalam films has South Korea/foreign story influence.

Malayalam movies make the most original stories in Indian film Industry. To be shortlisted for final list in oscars, the most important thing needed is money. You need atleast around 80 crore rupees for oscar campaigning. Thats is multiple times higher than the budget of these movies.

Malayalam movie Drishyam is going to be remade in Korean language. Already remade in Chinese and many other languages. Edit - devotion of suspect x movie - 2017 | Drishyam movie 2013 Many hit movies of other Indian film industries are remakes of Malayalam movies.
