In fact no, Maybe the quality was higher but today is more option and there are even better high quality crossover parts and most crossovers are way better with cutting the frequencies to get a flat frequency response, and a more overall better response in phase and impedance With Simulation and Real life measurements to get the best results. Back in the days you just experimented what sounded the best.

Yes for reaaaallll I bought a pair of 1986 Sony 3 ways and they just used a capacitor for all the speakers 😂but I put new tweeters and mid ranges as well as new crossovers

pues lógico en esa época no había woofer con imanes de magnetita o magnolia como los hay ahora en esos días los imanes de erradura estaban muy delimitados para los tonos graves pero si convinaramos esos medios agudos con los graves que existen ahoy saldría un sonido auditivo de muy buena calidad
