We had that loco on (then NIWX 8924) the Eastern Washington Gateway RR from 2007 until 8/9/2012 when she was retired. I put 2,296 miles on her as my leader plus many more when she was in the consist. Not bad for a part-time employee on a 109 mile long RR! 8924 was always reliable and never failed us. I was beyond happy to see her saved and restored as CRR 3632. I got to see her in 2019 at Oak Ridge TN and it was an emotional time for me.
Yeah the governor always makes the big 2-strokes fun on cold starts. That cool sound is amplified by the turbocharger in this case. Such a great mechanical noise. Same with the smaller Detroit diesels they like to hunt around a bit on cold starts as well. No coincidence that they're related to the big EMD's.
That SD45 is awesome, but holy crap those horn valve skills! DANG!! At first I was like "Ugh, a K5LA on an F-unit, 🙄" but that quilling totally made up for it and then some. That was hot!
Southern Appalachia Railway Museum in Eastern Tennessee. They got the good stuff. Another note, when I last saw the F unit, they had a Leslie 5 chime of some sort on it.
That's the greatest K5Ia I have ever heard in my life it was so loud and quick and wow the RS5T was great too I don't know what to pick to be honest great job man
Pull Cord on the F unit. Perfect for "feathering" the horns. You can feather on the second generation EMD, GE, ALCo locomotives. But nothing beats the pull cord!!!!!!
Is this one of the SD45's that was rebuilt with a V16 645? Or does it still use the V20 645? Many SD45's in service were rebuilt with different prime movers because the V20 verison had too much longitudinal weight as a engine block and were notorious for either causing damage to crankshafts or bending the frames over time and usage. Some of them also destroyed piston rods or bearings if they were ran at full throttle for a long time or were put on hard use for serious work. The amount that were rebuilds were technically rebuilt to SD40 standards.
@@heyitshuttz3705 they used to do that under the Secret City Excursion. That ceased in the mid 2010s. They just take care of transferring freight loads from the K-25 cleanup to Norfolk Southern.
No sabía que los 20 cilindros habían tenido problemas claro yo nunca estube de acuerdo con esos motores tan grandes tampoco con los de 4 tiempos de 12 cilindros hoy día es suficiente con los 710 y los 4 tiempos de 12 cilindros

Man that hunt for an idle is probably one
Of my all time favorite sounds

The RS5T is an excellent sounding horn!
One of my favorites! Big fan of the Leslie horns in general though.
Best horn there is for a locomotive, in my personal opinion.
Those horn skills are a flex alone. Sweet video!
Oak Ridge is the secret horn mecca

2:15 the “one-up!” Sound got me 😂
That has gotta be one of the best sounding trains i've ever heard that SD45!! Thumbs up from me
Man what a machine! I am in love with SDs specially SD45s, looks a real beast in black. 😍
2:15 when the horn sequence is so glorious that the unit got an extra life.
That's the greatest K5Ia I have ever heard in my life it was so loud and quick and wow the RS5T was great too I don't know what to pick to be honest great job man
Love the idle sound
😮😮😮😮😮😮WHAT A WONDERFULL IMAGES, SOUNDS, AND EVERYTHING!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING BOYS!!!
Wow!!! The Best Music i ever heard..
i LOVE the sound of that early K5

The pull cords are THE best for horn blowing. I thought it was pretty cool that Amtrak decided to use the pull cord on the AEM-7s.
Love the sound of that engine
Outstanding video……….2 awesome locomotives 👍
ok this is my favourite diesel train, it looks kinda mad max-like
I love that air horn!
Hearing an EMD hunt for idle makes me think of her little Detroit Diesel brothers.
Well Done!
It really took awhile for it to get into a solid idle that's for sure!
It's not like a steam engine but they definitely have to have a little workout when it's cold out.
@@RaisedLetter I get!
Que hermosa locomotora!!!! Que bello sonido del motor..... O mi Dios
Awesome video...
Did... that engine just collect a 1-UP mushroom? 2:14
my notification tone lol
forgot to silence my phone
@@RaisedLetter I see. I like the idea of prime movers getting Mario powerups, though. Imagine an old Union Pacific GTEL getting a red Super Mushroom.
@@redleader6442 then it would be able to run like new again!
Sounds engine is epic 😍🤪
Essa sim e a verdadeira buzina de locomotiva a mais top das buzinas simplesmente uma harmonia .

You're asking me something I don't know the answer to.
V16 645
David and lots of push you can do it
Man that horn on the F unit is eardrum exploding loud, my goodness!!!
What particular horn is that?
@@pageba2010 Leslie RS5T

What’s that song again
The RS5T though
That airchime echo!
Hi I'm putting together a TH-cam video on the emd sd45. Would it be ok if I used some of this footage?
Sure! With proper credit of course.
@@RaisedLetter Of course! Thanks!

Does this unit belong to the museum?
For the time being, yes
@@RaisedLetter I'm just really not trying to miss it being an Ex MRL locomotive
@@Eli_J_G well it's back where it started in the east because it was a Seaboard and Family Lines locomotive prior to that
Is this in Oak Ridge and if so, what times does it run?
It is in Oak Ridge. At the East Tennessee Technology Park.
There is no set schedule but they only run on weekdays.
@@RaisedLetter ah ok, passenger operations?

❤
Still winds up like 50 years ago, probly cost them only couple hundred bucks to fix up the engine too
chinchfield sd45
In my opinion, there are only a few sounds that are better than a SD-45.
Seems like she’s loosing compression on some pistons.
