Currently 3 hours deep into the carpentry TH-cam rabbit hole, and I'm glad I'm here 😊 Great video, can't say I've seen people turn mushrooms but it's a brilliant idea! So many different woods and grains and shapes and styles, could really turn into an excellent collection to admire.
Thank you! I do rotate by hand frequently. Sometimes I cut them off at a slight angle just to give them a different look. Thanks for watching and providing input :)
I’ve made a few of these. They are truly like snowflakes. I don’t think I’ve ever been able to make two alike. Had some really cool looking spalted maple to use and they turned out great. I wish I had only used wood butter instead of the homemade abrasive paste. It darkened them up considerably. I’m in north central Ohio myself. If you ever want to swap some wood, give me a shout. Lol
Awesome to have a fellow Buckeye on here. I found some white pumice on Amazon that I used in my abrasive paste. I have a video on how I make wood butter and talk about the darker abrasives darkening lighter woods. So I can relate with that mistake. I’m down in the hocking hills region. You near Mansfield area?
@@woodworkingmcdanielstyle when my wife and I want to get away, we know a place in Creola that has a couple rental cabins. We love the Hocking hills area.
@@woodworkingmcdanielstyle You and me both my friend. I just brought home another truckload of red oak, red elm, and yellow elm Problem was, I didn’t have room for the stuff I already had. Lol. If I ever get down your way, maybe we can trade some project ideas.
@k9insomniac783 absolutely. I’m always looking for new ideas. I just picked up some giant chunks of ambrosia maple. I had to order a 6 inch faceplate because they are so heavy, I didn’t trust my 3 inch faceplate to hold them. I need to go rough those before they crack. But I can’t keep up with orders right now. Busy time of year for sure and I’m in the middle of a bathroom remodel!

I’m glad your rabbit hole landed on my channel! Good luck on making your collection :)
rotate your chuck by hand when you saw it off, helps with a nice straight cut. Fantastic work!

I’m about 10 minutes from Creola! You could swing by and see what a disaster my wood shop is lol. I need to stop turning and start cleaning!
