Thanks Jon. I don't mind the looks but the remote should be more capable and backlit. Subs should be independent. Set up menu should be high def and full screen. Set up menu shouldn't be timed. Their included room correction should be very capable and include a mic and no manual measurements needed. Basically I agree with everything you brought up. I'm really looking forward to the next video to see if all this doesn't really matter...if it sounds REALLY good. You provide a needed service, again, thanks.
You would make a good product manager. I am waiting for speaker cable to arrive today to run temporary wires from the MA9100HP to my speakers instead of my normal external amplifiers which this AVR doesn't support (no pre-outs). -Jon
Seems like their usability department was out to lunch. Big beautiful display but no 10-foot interface? Manual entry of subwoofer distances? I was interested in this for the efficiency and cooler temps of class D amps and the newer aesthetics but this may not be the one for me after all.
looks grreat, but for now all the units on my rack are black, including my xbox..., i guess i can mix it up...hmm...jus heard also available in blk...boom...thumbs up...Hehe.
Unfortunately, Dirac licenses are specific to each component. I have had period where I have had five Dirac capable units in house. While they all appeared in the Dirac software at once, that required a license for each separately purchased (unless included in the unit like Onkyo and Integra do). -Jon
I agree Jon. Definitely not a set up for dummies. Matter of fact if you didn’t have the experience that set up would have tripped you up. I think this is a dud out the gate. Maybe the sound test may redeem it some.
It is unfortunate as I approached this product with optimism. The sound test starting this weekend will determine for certain if there is merit in this new model range beyond its looks. -Jon
I think JBL haven't thought about the average user. To additionally charge $300 for set up software is bad news too. I understand licencing etc but if you sell a product set up should be relatively easy. When the box was opened I notice there was no dvd from or memory stick with the manual on it . For a company which made dream speakers from the 60s to 90s of my youth I'm disappointed. Onkyo and others had set up microphones and internal software 15 years ago in their mid level avr units. Today ide buy Denon in a mid range unit.
I really like how you describe the customer experience of opening the box. The simplicity is not there. I agree that both Onkyo and Denon offer more simplicity and I will add - at lower cost. -Jon
1k and no pre out and many owners reporting very low out put from LFE output, deal breaker. Expecting better from JBL. I have to buy one, Marantz 70s looks good but over priced as well for power.
Be sure to download the setup and calibration documentation from JBL's website before trying to calibrate the system. If you follow the calibration App's instructions at face value then you will end up in a world of trouble really quickly. Oh, and take a video of yourself calibrating the system. I think it will be a laugh watching you wave your arms around the room for 60 seconds.
This unit as an AVR is a complete turn off. First, the Class D amplifier on JBL's site claims 0.5% THD - totally unacceptable for the price. The set up is a mess - almost appears like an old fashioned DOS typos. No pre outs. Not even a microphone? Dirac Live full for $300.00 extra? Glad I bought the Onkyo RZ-50/ easy, pre outs, more flexible and powerful, full version of Dirac Live built in. All for just over $1000.00
Thanks for your dedication.
I enjoy doing these reviews. -Jon
Thanks for the video ..😅
Your welcome! -Jon

Unless this sounds good - I am not likely to recommend. There are less expensive options that do more. -Jon

Yes - black goes anything. If you lived through the 70s’ you could buy refrigerators in avocado green. -Jon
Are you able to use your Dirac license over multiple components. Would suck to have to pay for it each time.

Could it be fibre glass perhaps...
It could be. We need a materials scientist to weigh in...-Jon
Hope it sounds better than the Sony ES receiver, otherwise it's hard for me to choose the JBL for the same price range.
I always weigh sound quality as an important critical. Usability and feature set close behind. -Jon

Thanks for the heads up. I am assuming the EZ Set EQ and not Dirac. I fear you will be right about my frustration. I hope now, but... -Jon
710ma would glitch out mm
I will be on the lookout for glitches with the MA9100HP I am reviewing. Thanks for the warning. -Jon

I have similar concerns. Unless this unit has outstanding sound quality, I cannot see how they justify the price. -Jon
