It’s always a little weird when people who haven’t ever eaten the non-vegan version, or have last tasted it a very long time ago, are doing an a review of a vegan analog product. I find their assessment of the quality of the imitation kind of questionable.

    • @SauceStache
      @SauceStache 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

@@arianeholzhauer you can still attest to wether or not it’s good and if it gives you the same sensation you remember. It’s hard for anyone to go in not blind durring a review. When I quarantined with a bunch of my friends to have company during these times I fed them a purely plant-based diet using tofu and seitan for 2 weeks. only 1 out of 7 of them figured out that I was doing something weird because she caught me making washed flour seitan. When it comes down to it most foods are basically covered with seasoning the "meat" can be exchanged with almost any protein. After two weeks my friends felt healthier. I'm not saying that plant-based if for everyone clearly not all of my friends will convert but at least they can't tell me it's weird I mostly eat grass now.

It does seem like those type of meat replacement products are geared more towards new vegans or the occasional vegan that enjoyed meat, but doesn’t consume it for various other reasons. At least that’s my experience among the people I know. It seems like the longer a person is vegan, the less they eat imitation meat replacements. I know a few that do, but a lot either develop an aversion to anything too “meaty” in taste or texture or simply begin to enjoy natural vegan options more that don’t attempt to replicate meat. I know it’s been like that for me personally as well. I started becoming vegan about 35 years ago and gradually ate less of this type of product over the years. Seeing what’s out there these days is interesting, but eating something that REALLY duplicates meat well? No thank you. Not for me, but I’m really glad these options exist for people that want them.

I only have one other friend who is vegan here in the south; he became a nutritionist after losing all his acne and feeling so much less tired when he went vegan. He doesn’t eat much processed food or sugar, except for the occasional tofu scramble. He’s been vegan for 3 years now I think. I’ve been vegan for 9 months now, and despite being pescatarian for 7 years prior to that, I still gravitate towards beyond sausages and the like. I’m not very health conscious; I did it for the animals BUT I do miss that experience of eating something fleshy (as gross at that sounds). I wonder if I’ll always be like this or eventually start eating more natural, earthy meals.

Amazingly accurate fish substitute! You might want to try a fishy-tasting baste on the 'fiszh', or on tofu or tempeh instead, if the texture of your featured product is a little to spooky to bear😱 Here's my small recipe :
1/2 cup water in a saucepan, bring to the boil, then take off the heat and add 1 tsp kelp granules and 2 tsp coconut aminos (only coconut aminos- you need the slightly sweet taste). Let stand for about 5 min, then strain. When cooled off, stir in 2 tblsp of flaxseed oil, shake well, then use as a final baste for sashimi or that cooked version of the fake salmon, after you remove it from the pan, or as part of the marinade for your poke bowl. Don't use a lot.. It's fishy!
    Loving you both lots! 😍😍😍

Thank you for sharing your recipe!
A while back, i made a pan of oven
roasted sliced cauliflower, i baked it to
the point where it had a deep brown,
      caramelized texture.
The way i spiced it, it almost had a fish
like taste. I mixed in some vegan
mayonnaise, and it tasted close to
the tuna salad i was raised eating.
All it needed, was something that
added a bit more fish flavor to it.
I tried adding seaweed flakes, but
it still didn't taste right. It actually
took away the original flavor i had
      drawn out of the cauliflower.
I am hoping your concoction will be
the thing that makes it taste how i

I’m in Sweden and it seems like this brand just this year started to become available in some grocery stores here. I have a few close by that carry these, and one of those packages sell for the equivalent of 6,8 usd.
which I’m guessing is a more reasonable price than the imported in small scale, almost impossible to get a hold of ones in the US sell for.
For basically all holiday meals we make a buffet of all sorts of things here in Sweden. And one of the most important items is cold smoked and graved salmon (gravad lax), really similar to lox. I’ve made the carrot vegan salmon a few times.
But this seems like the perfect vegan substitute!
Both because it’s still is ‘raw’ even after being exposed to heat, so if the smoke get a little hot it doesn’t matter.
And since it’s so plain tasting it should pick up the flavours for both variations well.

Oh wow. This is honestly insane! At this point there is nothing which cannot be made vegan AND truly close to the original! I've recently heard about vegan wagyu stake success too! Omnivores have less and less arguments for eating animal products and I love it ;D

Thank you for sharing this experience with us!

based on jasmine's reaction I'm sure I'd absolutely hate these products lol but they look really cool! I had non-vegan sashimi once when I was a kid and it did not go well, definitely a texture issue
