I'm surprised more people didn't assume he'd attack immediately as soon as you open his cell, considering he said that's what he would do when he gave you the key.

You CAN save him. In my playthrough I did not buy anything from him, proceeded the Dung Eater questline until I fought him in the moat. Then I bought a shrimp and the guy moved to the moat. Talked with him until there was no dialogue option, reloaded the area, and he is still fine.

I actually saved him by trapping Dung Eater in the sewers and feeding him his own medicine :) He had 5 seeds and he was done for. Blackguard is still selling fresh boiled crab and prawn for me :)
If you give him the seedbed curse (from the quest) but have collected 5 seedbed curses beforehand (from the overworld) then he'll die instantly. Blackguard is happy as he is, doesn't need no defilement from no Dung Eater.
So does the Dungeater just carry chairs around with him? Cause honestly the thought of Dungeater approaching me while dragging a simple chair behind him seems genuinely terrifying

Seeing Boggart's corpse give you a seedbed curse is a horrible feeling, knowing that he's now cursed to never return to the erdtree. I turned the Doodoo Devourer into a puppet just for that reason, let him suffer as a slave until the end of time, a curse fitting for such a ghastly shit snacker such as himself.
Why I always trap Dung Eaters as a puppet for all eternity, I love to hear the fear in his foul voice as he realizes his ambitions have died as well as his free will. A proper fate for the animal, to serve a higher being.

It would be cool if releasing the Dung Eater actually unlocked a "hardcore" mode where if you die to him your run is over because you get defiled and shit. But it would only trigger if you release him from his cell, and only if you die by his hand in any encounter with him after the release.
If you guys wanna have him here and continue Dung Eater’s quest line WITHOUT killing Shrimp bro… Attack Boggart and make him hostile. As long as he’s a hostile enemy, he won’t get killed by the Dung Eater, even if he’s in the moat. Afterwards, just kill the Dung Eater in the moat, and once he’s gone, absolve yourself of your sins. Now you have shrimp bro alive and can continue the dung eater questline

She was progressively seeming like the biggest sweetheart NPC we've had, and the voice acting felt like I had set a kitten's favorite blankie on fire, while I could've avoided it. No reason to tell her if she'll be that devastated. And her adoptive mother seemed so loving, so I felt increasingly bad about it. The PoS thing is more related to being obligated to get my favorite friendly NPC tortured to death or something, after a comfy moment with them. I was so so so happy to see them and hang out. I thought he'd join in on the fight instead for some reason. Though he really rammed it in that he was terrified of the Dung Eater and what he does to people's corpses. I just feel like I'm responsible for playing and making the events happen, idk, just maladaptive thinking. And it was within 20-30 min., so big feelies tbh

Or you can progress her quest to the point she runs away and hides, and when theres an option to kill her or to give her potion you can ignore both. (And then kill her mother in the Rykard boss area, because she wants to ressurect Rykard). I dont understand all the love for shrimp man, her robbed Rya, an innocent person and then when asked to give it back he said "well you can pay me for it, she deserved to get robbed for trusting me", i killed him and didnt care
Seluvis gave me the opportunity to make the Dung Eater my personal puppet. After what he did to my bro. I'd always summon him when I'm able and just let him get skewered from all sides. Bosses, mobs, didn't matter.
Ironically, on my first playtrough, when Poo Munchies told me to free his mortal shell, i thought he wanted me to kill him. Guess who failed the questline?
When I heard all the terrible things the Dung Eater does, I decided if I were to find him, to kill him. So I did, plain and simple. Or so I thought. I located his cell, kept the door closed and casted Rotten Breath on him. Thought it fitting for blighted man like him to rot away. Didn’t even pick up his loot. I’d continued my journey in the lands between and later when Co-Oping with my brother found his name on my map again. I don’t know if he’s alive again somehow, but the idea of him as an npc to defy death when no others do is somewhat terrifying.
the lore goes: that the dung eater, cut his friend's stomach open. then he squeezed and ate his intestines like a spaghetti, eating the feces inside it. fun fact: the dung eater was inspired from the video "two girls one cup".
Pissed that you can't do anything to save him even though you know the Dungeater is going that location. Can't even warn the NPC or defend him, sometimes the questlines feel too scripted.
@@missingone9185 ? You don't though, you just inquire about him. Pretty sure if you actually had the option to warn him, with the way he's talking about the Dungeater, he'd leave the area. The "intended path" for this questline is free dungeater - find the prawn bro at the moat - read the note that the dungeater is going to the moat at the roundtable, and then find the prawn man dead. But if you do it out of order - free the dungeater, read the note, and then talk to the prawn man, it fucks with the games "natural "progression, and gives you information that you can't act on. This isn't the only instance of the scripted questlines being a bit too scripted, where you have to play it the way the devs intended, with no other options being presented where it seems like there should be. Ex. (minor NPC quest spoilers) you can find Sellen's real body if you do some exploring early in the game, but you don't have the option to ask Sellen why there is another her in a different area, only after you start her quest mid-late game does she tell you that she's somewhere else, and only then you're allowed to do something with this information.

The only person who rivals Dung Eater in his malice and distaste for people is Creighton. And Creighton didn't walk around defiling corpses and cursing them.

Aldritch and Master Willem were both pretty high up there, too. But at least their victims aren't eternally cursed, so I'd say Dung Eater gets the trophy.

I honestly got that power murder boost after hearing Blackguard's final words, have Dung Eater no chance to do anything when he invaded me.

Rya can have a somewhat happy ending. Ranni has a happy ending if we get the age of stars ending. Roderika could also count as having a happy ending I guess?

@@MHSenju3000 Good luck. He just one-shotted me after I backstabbed him. He does this thing where he sprints at you, then YELLS and unleashes curses hurled at you. It also doesn't help that you find him in a cramped area.
@@bebemax95 you can get him stuck on the door if you exit it correctly, but you will need a ranged attack, or careful melee hits
boggart is by far the best from NPC yet. he sells prawn, AND crab for dirt fucking cheap.
I never met this thief in the swamp, so when I got to this location later after meeting Dung eater it was a random corpse in the chair and he invaded.

It would be cool if releasing the Dung Eater actually unlocked a "hardcore" mode where if you die to him your run is over because you get defiled and shit. But it would only trigger if you release him from his cell, and only if you die by his hand in any encounter with him after the release.
And future saves are cursed with - 50% hp

Attack Boggart and make him hostile. As long as he’s a hostile enemy, he won’t get killed by the Dung Eater, even if he’s in the moat. Afterwards, just kill the Dung Eater in the moat, and once he’s gone, absolve yourself of your sins.
Now you have shrimp bro alive and can continue the dung eater questline

@@maaax5092 oh for Rya I meant the secrets of the mansion/her birth dialogue. She was progressively seeming like the biggest sweetheart NPC we've had, and the voice acting felt like I had set a kitten's favorite blankie on fire, while I could've avoided it. No reason to tell her if she'll be that devastated. And her adoptive mother seemed so loving, so I felt increasingly bad about it.
The PoS thing is more related to being obligated to get my favorite friendly NPC tortured to death or something, after a comfy moment with them. I was so so so happy to see them and hang out. I thought he'd join in on the fight instead for some reason. Though he really rammed it in that he was terrified of the Dung Eater and what he does to people's corpses.
I just feel like I'm responsible for playing and making the events happen, idk, just maladaptive thinking.
And it was within 20-30 min., so big feelies tbh
@@GiraffesEatStuff you can either give Rya a potion of forgivness and she will forget everything. Or you can progress her quest to the point she runs away and hides, and when theres an option to kill her or to give her potion you can ignore both. After killing Rykard talk to her, then reload area and she will leave a letter saying she left to explore the world. (And then kill her mother in the Rykard boss area, because she wants to ressurect Rykard).
I dont understand all the love for shrimp man, her robbed Rya, an innocent person and then when asked to give it back he said "well you can pay me for it, she deserved to get robbed for trusting me", i killed him and didnt care

Ironically, on my first playtrough, when Poo Munchies told me to free his mortal shell, i thought he wanted me to kill him.

When I heard all the terrible things the Dung Eater does, I decided if I were to find him, to kill him. So I did, plain and simple. Or so I thought.
I located his cell, kept the door closed and casted Rotten Breath on him. Thought it fitting for blighted man like him to rot away.
Didn’t even pick up his loot.
I’d continued my journey in the lands between and later when Co-Oping with my brother found his name on my map again.
I don’t know if he’s alive again somehow, but the idea of him as an npc to defy death when no others do is somewhat terrifying.
the lore goes: that the dung eater, cut his friend's stomach open. then he squeezed and ate his intestines like a spaghetti, eating the feces inside it.

Pissed that you can't do anything to save him even though you know the Dungeater is going that location. Can't even warn the NPC or defend him, sometimes the questlines feel too scripted.

The "intended path" for this questline is free dungeater - find the prawn bro at the moat - read the note that the dungeater is going to the moat at the roundtable, and then find the prawn man dead. But if you do it out of order - free the dungeater, read the note, and then talk to the prawn man, it fucks with the games "natural "progression, and gives you information that you can't act on.
This isn't the only instance of the scripted questlines being a bit too scripted, where you have to play it the way the devs intended, with no other options being presented where it seems like there should be. Ex. (minor NPC quest spoilers) you can find Sellen's real body if you do some exploring early in the game, but you don't have the option to ask Sellen why there is another her in a different area, only after you start her quest mid-late game does she tell you that she's somewhere else, and only then you're allowed to do something with this information.

I played every souls game at least once. I think killing people that you find disgusting is ok even if you miss out. To much chance that you hate that you let them alive. I killed the necklace thief first sight. I also killed patches every game first betrayel. I would do everything to complete darksouls without killing sif. Life is hard.
