We really do have our share of racial problems here in the US and too many people want to act like because of Barack Obama's presidency that we are past racial problems, but we have yet to face up to the fact that the United States was built by enslaved hands and on the back of people who weren't even regarded as humans. Our Constitution was passed based on a compromise with the southern states (seriously in this country, the south is ALWAYS the problem) that counted enslaved Africans as 3/5 of a human being for purposes of apportioning the House of Representatives. Roger Sherman was the architect of that compromise. Of course it didn't give the slaves any rights, but was an act of caving toward the racism of the south. Racism that has never gone away, I might add. American society tries to gloss over it and to call it the Connecticut Compromise (where Sherman was from) or even the Great Compromise. To this day, the state of Connecticut puts the phrase "the Constitution state" on their license plates. They should be honest and call it "the Faustian bargain state." I propose a truth and reconciliation commission like in South Africa, but nobody cares what I think. :)
