@@26Rudders think its more used as a way to force helos away from good positions that allow them good visibility or force them into areas of fire. The mortars arent being relied upon to take out the helo but are used as area denial.
RPGs are designed to self-destruct after flying the 900m maximum range. It is for this reason that they have been used specifically at that range before as an AA weapon due to the airburst shrapnel.
