I was only 4 at the time of this game but how could i forget Hill and Willie J. God I miss the days of this team...the Run and Gun. Watching the 93-97 vgator teams with my late grandfather is the reason i bleed orange and blue today!!
I remember watching this game back in '93... I was living in Regency Oaks apartments at Archer and 34th...right next door to Bennigans... I was lucky enough to live in Gainesville for 7 years.. I remember I used to work at a Holiday Inn over on Newberry Road and the Gators would stay at that hotel the night before home games
TOP 3 FLORIDA COMEBACKS OF ALL TIME: Kerwin's comeback vs Auburn in 86 The 2 Headed Quaterback vs FSU in 97 and THIS ONE...This one is the most memorable for me. Sitting in a house full of GATOR FANS. Including a bunch of OLD SCHOOL UF grads from the 60's...When Doreing caught that TD we BLEW THE ROOF OFF...
I remember this game as the night the roof got blown off my Uncle's house when a house full of GATOR fans leapt off couches and chairs screaming, yelling crying and falling all over each other in pure ecstatic joy,,,I believe it is my single greatest memory as a GATOR. Though the last drive TD vs FSU in 97 was pretty special to.
I heard that Jack Jackson convinced SOS to run the same route that had resulted in an incomplete pass the play before. This time Doering raced for the end zone and the rest was history.
Wuerfful, grew up a die hard FSU fan, doesn't get recruited by them. Comes to Gainesville and becomes one of the best quarterbacks to ever put on the Orange and Blue. Also, Wuerfful is the reason Tebow started to play quarterback as he has said in several interviews. Wuerffull, Rhett, Jack Jackson, Doering...what a team!!!
This is the first time I have ever seen this tape. I heard it on the radio back in 1993, as a guest in my buddy's house back in Tallahassee. We both recognized that Wuerfel to Doering was a winning combination. Oh, Jack Jackson! I forgot about you being a part of this game! Greatest short time Gator ever? I love the old school nature of this game, Danny taking the snap under center and his snapper wearing the towel on his ass that Danny uses and then flips up to get the snap! Strange that Dehiring wore 28 in this game, when Warrick Dunn would go on to kill UF with that number. Jed Davis! Kicker! Warming up on the sideline! For the tie! Aubrey Hill, Harrison Houston, Jack Jackson, Chris Doering! Greatest receiving corps in All history! Excellent KY team here. Really, should have won this game. When Doering catches the touchdown Mick Hubert reacts as if he'd just won the lottery. He's actually in tears while he describes the aftermath. My father used to make fun of Gene Dekkerhoff for being a homer, but Mick... my god, he practically has an orgasm right there.
I searched for this... wooo as a die hard Gators fan growing up... this game was sooo memorable... I'm From Mass. And have lived here my whole life, so I didnt see it live..
One of only two times in the last 25 years that Kentucky came close to beating Florida. (This has been as one sided a series as it gets over the last quarter century) A terrible game by Florida with 7 INTs thrown, but the end of the game heroics made up for it. It was the start of Danny Wuerffels legendary career, and when Chris Doering first made a name for himself.
I wonder if Florida would've tried a FG? If the td pass was incomplete. 4th down with 2 seconds left? 45 yard attempt wasn't as automatic back them like now.
Back in the day when Spurrier just got going every game was a bad case of nerves for fans. We wanted him to help us win so badly. I listened to this game on the radio by myself and yelled like crazy when Dhoering scored.
hahaha... at the 4:58 mark there's a 12 men in the huddle penalty that would have been called today. I believe this may be the game Fulmer showed to Peyton Manning that made him choose UT over Florida. The story goes that they were watching Danny Wuerffel film and Fulmer says, "He's good, huh?" Peyton: "Yeah, he's real good" Fulmer: "He's a freshman" Done deal. Funny how things turn out.
Would anyone be able to tell me the name of the guy announcing w/ Hubert? Guy who described this imminent as the “moment that was worth all the misery”. Thanks!!
One of my heroes growing up in Tampa: AllSEC WR at 5’8 Lee McGriff. Believe it or not, he retired from away games the week before the Gators loss to UK on Sat. A really good person.
Doering now on the radio... Lee McGriff's son Travis McGriff may replace Steve Babbit's place on the sidelines... Sports Channel to Sunshine to Sunshine Network to SunSports. A lot has occurred over last 17 years.
Terry Dean was more talented than Weurffel but man Danny could run that offense. How many did we throw against Auburn that year I do believe. It was the day Auburn beat us in G-Ville.
The Auburn home loss was in '94; '93 was a loss to Auburn at Jordan Hare. They had our number until '95 when we put a whooping on them. Loved when we played Auburn every year.
Just watched this after reading of Mick Hubert's retirement. What a great call by a GREAT fan!!
Gonna be hard to listen to the Gators if Mick’s voice isn’t part of the game.
I just love how 25 years later he still uses the same iconic "OH MY" it's so wholesome
And now in 2022 he’s retired 😞 the only voice of the gators I’ve ever known
17 years later and I still get chills. Big time. I remember I almost threw up and I hadn't even been drinking! Awesome memories!
30 years ago. So much glory, it still gives me chills. GO GATORS!!!

What a time to be a Gator. The beginning of the career of the greatest college QB to ever play the game.
This never gets old!
Jackson L Murphy never Jackson......never 🐊🐊
I watch this this time every year. Thank you

Thanks for the memories Mick. Thanks.
I graduated from UF in 2006... awesomeness...

Chris Doering was a big underrated player in the media.
Absolutely ridiculous that this full game. Or even highlights for that matter. Are not available except this right here.

Doering's got a touchdown.
Is it just me. or does this camera angle make it look like were watching a high-school game? lol

WOW! thanks so much for that!!

I had to listen to this on the radio. OH MY STARS
I had to listen to the 96 National Championship Game vs FSU on my car radio in a parking lot...I feel ya...!!!
And Peyton went one to be a great NFL quarterback but guess what he NEVER did??? HE NEVER BEAT WUERRFUL OR THE GATORS!!!
But he did win the Gator Bowl in Gainesville in 1994.

Yep. And Danny beat his ass in every matchup, even for the Heisman.🐊
Best play ever
Wuerffel was so awesome in college. wish he would have really been given a chance in the NFL. Do you have anymore Wuerffel clips you can post?
Great post!!

6:40 - Wuerffel does a Tebow
I believe Steve Babik is serving a 12 year sentence.
@mother66 It's true. Kiddie porn as I remember.
@mother66 www.gainesville.com/news/20100917/ex-gator-broadcaster-babik-to-serve-12-and-a-half-years-on-child-porn-charges
Must have been torturous for Gator fans. All those incompletions before the final pass.
Terry Dean was more talented than Weurffel but man Danny could run that offense. How many did we throw against Auburn that year I do believe. It was the day Auburn beat us in G-Ville.
bernie7044 Oct 15 1994 I was at florida field...vomited when I got home was such in a state of shock disbelief after the auburn loss
