I only wear merino tops , it started when I had to put my kit back on to commute home and got sick of the smell . Then I only took them touring and didn't have to wash them. So ideal.

Base layers 👍🏽 I have some long sleeve Ice Breaker merino wool base layers, about 8 years old now and still great😀

I use on every bike I have the fidlock magnetic bottles and will never miss them again.

I swear by Fidlock Twist magnetic bottles. I used them for years mountain biking with no losses on jumps or on my many clumsy and spectacular falls. Recently they are also on my gravel bike - with similar clumsy but less spectacular falls. They can come with dust/ muck caps, a must especially on the underside mount. I agree not to try out a new product on the event. Trial and error has to occur during training.

I just got my first pair of Darn Tough socks a week ago! Love them so much and planning on getting a few more pairs! Great recommendation

Folding reading glasses ( 6 ) good idea. When your glasses in your cycling goggles pop out you need something to see them to put back together again. Right old faff…..

Bought merino top when biking in NZ in 2015. Expensive but still have it, looks like its 100 yrs old but works like new. Great feedback on tips for hot weather riding, top video👌

For long rides I do merino all the time, much less of the cycling tops clothing.
For water I am now trying the CRANKTANK 3 & 4

Wicking base layers can give comfort when the wet bulb temperature goes high.

Don't cheap out on side-entry cages like I did. If they're made of cheap plastic they deform, making it difficult to slide the bottle back in. The Salsa metal ones work great.

    +1 bedtime clothes
While I run XL frames I still run side-entry cages plus with a Wolf bracket to slide them down - why is it frame manufacturers put bottle cage bottles so high up the seat & down tubes?

It’s wet on my ride, I love it I lied, how green is the grass, how shitty my ass, still it’s good to be out, to sing and shout, whilst I pedal my bike, what’s not to like.

1700 tss weeks in training!?! Are you sure your zones are set correctly? That’s equivalent of 17 hours @ ftp!

I guess I might need to tweak that Dan! 😁

    • @derekkuhl
      @derekkuhl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Indeed. Those are amazing numbers. A TSS of 5700 is otherworldly. If you did it in 7 days, that would be about 815 TSS per day. Average numbers on the Haute Route Alps, thought to be a very hard sportif/race, run in the mid 400s. If that is what it takes to do Torino-Nice, I will choose another ride 😅

@@derekkuhl 🤪yep, probably not right then

I'll be honest - I don't fully understand the details of TSS. With no powermeter on that bike, these were hrTSS and the HR zones are set correctly. Quite why it gave these figures I don't know, but to my mind (and I might be wrong) it's the relative numbers which are important as I'm not comparing myself with anyone else.

You're right Dan, they cannot be right, but it's the same as an uncalibrated power meter, as long as it's consistently wrong, it can still be used and Simon's description of his progress: build build build, recovery, is perfect.
(For reference; correctly set up, a coached training camp in Spain have me a TSS of about 1000 and that was full-on 🥵)
