    Good morning Matt. I like these easier nymphs. Like some others have mentioned goose biots are not my favourite, heck even spell check wants to change them to boots. I like the krystal flash instead of the biots for sure. Thanks Matt and safe travels.

      Ha! And same here John. Why is biot not even a word??

  • @FlyTyer1948
    @FlyTyer1948 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Depending on how my fingers want to behave (vs. how my mind is trying tell them to operate), biots can be awfully fussy, so I’m alway happy to learn an alternate method. Thanks, Matt.

    • @SavageFlies
      @SavageFlies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! I guess the misleading thing about using biots in a video is that it probably looks like I snipped them off and immediately put them on the hook. I assure you that rarely happens. It probably takes me a good minute to get the tips even, the back sides together, and then to pick one of them back up after dropping it. But I can edit that out and not make ya'll suffer watching me fumble around with them. But this does make me wonder if anybody watching this thought, "Wow, I'm never that fast with biots." I should probably tell everybody that I'm not either. :-)

    One little trick I learned tying in goose biots is to build a small football shaped build up of thread at the point of the biot tye in and that really helps keeping them spleyed apart.

    Nice pattern, one trick I do when using goose biots for tails is to put either a small ball of dubbing or just a build up of thread first to separate them... This forces the biots to stay in place, even when wet...

    I never thought about using a prince nymph for smallmouth, I may have to give it a try before this season is over

    • @SavageFlies
      @SavageFlies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tell you David, I've usually had better luck smallmouth fishing with streamers but that one day, they were crushing the prince! And I wasn't even purposely fishing for smallmouth. I mean, I knew they might be in this water, but it was a delayed harvest trout stream. I was actually fishing for trout and got a couple in the morning, so when the first smallmouth hit, I thought I had a nice hefty 18-inch brown on the line. But it turns out a 14-16 inch smallmouth can be quite a slab of a fish. :-)
