Why does philly look like a smaller NYC? No offense there’s some similarities in the scene. Aka cracked roads and sidewalks with litter, bodegas on corners and run down industrial like buildings with large steel doors

Soon moving from Kenya to north Philadelphia as a foreign nurse. But all these horror stories about violence simply mean that alot needs to be done to salvage the city.Humab beings cannot that decide to shoot and kill themselves like zombies.

Every big USA city has lots of violence, usually gangs`...being aware of where you are and being careful, it is not as bad as the media plays it. I am a native Strawberry Mansionite, lived in L.A., Phoenix, and smaller USA places. I traveled 50 countries, live in the Philippines as well. Just use common sense and you'll be okay!

On Hiddencityphiladelphia there is an article about the manufacturing plants around Sedgley Avenue, Fretz manufacturing umbrellas (useful for those houses without porches!) and later a box manufactuing firm. One of the buildings was partially demolished (what good does that do?), according to the article from 2019. Good read; thanks for covering this neighborhood, Toon.

I went to elementary where that military school is located. We own a house on Park Ave before Temple University brought all the properties on our block. That area has changed so much since the late 60’s and 70’s.

You almost made it to the Dell Music Center which draws big crowds during the summer for oldies concerts. I know folks who come up from Delaware and NJ for the shows. Also the park near that area would be a real showcase for Strawberry Mansion. There is a nice rec center and a golf driving range. Chalmers rec center in that area is also nice for what it is.
However as you pointed out the area is very rough and crime is a problem.
The church that you pointed out sits on the grounds of Shibe Park (aka Connie Mack Stadium) former home of the Phillies. Colombia Park at 25th and Colombia. The Baker Bowl at Broad and Lehigh where the gas station is at along with various other locations.

Spent much time at Philly's Uptown Theater 1961-64, I was influenced by the great music shows held there, I became a percussionist. Strawberry Mansion Borders :on the EAST: 29 th St WEST:- Ridge Ave West(Fairmount Park, although along 33rdSt from Oxford to York St, then Ridge Ave to Lehigh Ave), and North :Lehigh Avenue and - Oxford St(South). I grew up on 34th near Cumberland St around the corner from Fairmount Park 1946-1964. Loved the Park, with the Robin Hood Dell concerts every summer(18) all free to the public!

Grew up in Olney and spent a lot of time in Hunting Park, Wyoming, and Logan in the late 90s/2000s. They were considered rough areas at the time (probably worse now) but even back then I never dared step foot around Strawberry Mansion.

I drove thru strawberry mansion on a Saturday night recently on my way back to canada from florida.. I wanted to see philadelphia up close.. so instead of staying on I-95, I took U.S. route 13 north which brought me right thru the city, including this lovely neighborhood.. I thought it was very charming .. well no.. not really.. It was very run down.. and I actually feared for my life while there.. especially after I got chased several blocks by a car full of young men who were trying to force me to stop. Luckily, I saw a police car and stopped next to it and they took off. After that experience, I don't think I'll be going back to tour strawberry mansion again anytime soon. 😂

But I don’t think you comprehended what I said in the video when I cross the boundary into strawberry mansion and said this is where it begins 😂😂😂🙏🏼 I’ve covered this area plenty of times and document different portions or entry points in each video. Obviously I wasn’t going to walk from 5th and Susquehanna to 30th and Lehigh in 1 hour the route I was taking. But you must be new. I’ve covered area your talking about numerous times. I’ve been documenting Philly since 2017. Over 500 tours covering over 100 neighborhoods in all corners of the city. I just got back from a cross country 48 state tour hitting every state.
I follow maps and stay within the boundaries 😅👍🏼
