There was definitely an upward trend, although I'd say Furiosa and Thunderdome didn't quite fit in that trend, but were still good movies in their own right. Even the last placed movie in my list I still enjoyed, that's how you know that this is a really good series!
I have always loved the Mad Max series because of all the little things you can see on the vehicles and the things people are wearing. The end of society, or the collapse of society, and in later movies the end of the world does not mean the end of human creativity and ingenuity.
I've watched this movie so many times and there's still so many little new details I notice every time.
Case and point, about 30 seconds after posting this I just realized that Humungus' posse has a few women in it. Never noticed that before.

Yes, surprisingly a lot of women. And in one scene, a tent is ripped away revealing an amorous couple in bed. Humongous' gang really has fun. Not to mention early LGBT representation. Mohawk guy clearly feels for his dead boyfriend that got the boomerang in his head. Even as a kid, I saw that and just accepted that tough hombre was gay.
This is the best Mad Max sequel ever. There were a lot of rip-offs after this movie. None of them came even close.
Fist of the North Star was actually a pretty cool anime. Jagi even has the same mask as Humungus.
That's what happens when you blaze a trail- others follow where you led. I remember walking through the video store in the '80s and seeing all the post-apocalyptic hot-rod shoulder-pad knock-offs. Good times.
Lol someone hasn’t seen the original anime Fist of the North Star, that is pretty much the only Rip-off that equaled Mad Max in every way

@@gordonbennett5638 Johnny The Boy didn't fare too well in MM1. He got barbecued alive from a fuel tank explosion. Even though we don't expressly see him die, it is implied without doubt because Max's mission was to kill them all.
I often wondered if he was Johnny or Goose from the first film. Both would have had extreme burns, if they lived.

@@mickeysmouse4800 IMO it would make more sense if he was actually the police chief from the first film, a huge muscled bald guy with the mustache, who says to Max that society is collapsing and many police officers are leaving to go somewhere safer and even advises Max to do that, because people may end up crazy in a lawless society. That reflects what we see of Humongous pretty well
I've found the "just walk away " speech to be very useful in any number of real-world and on-line situations.
I have literally had Lord Humungous voice in my head telling me to "Just walk away" many times, usually regarding relationships. I have also had "Kill, Kill, Kill... Kill them!" cross my mind a few times, thankfully I didn't act on it.

I have watched this movie more than 40 times, and I absolutely love it! When the lord humugus says, nobody, nobody, leaves here alive, that was one of the favourite part of the movie for me!
I have worn out 3 VHS tapes and a DVD watching this movie so much. I like the final chase and crash scene myself.
I screwed up my VHS copy by re-watching the introduction of Humongous and his speech. One of the greatest scenes ever, and Mel Gibson is hardly in it.

Guy loses his fingers and he laughs at that, his leader says; "no more games"..., and then you know it's the end of the world. This kind of stuff Fury Road is missing, a harsh reality of apocalypse of Mad Max 2, it's like you can taste it. Fury Road is a great movie, but it will never be like Road Warrior in terms of this...hm... how to explain it... it's like totally authentic fall of the world which somehow crawls under your skin

I was 20 when this movie came out, it really affected me and started me preparing for the end of the world.

I actually do believe that the Humungus would have accepted a deal with them. If they offered him the compound in exchange of letting them produce enough gasoline to leave, I do believe that he would have let them go. He had no reason to want to kill them other than the juice
Wishful thinking. It's a pure survival situation they're living in and they're lawless marauders. Whatever good intentions Lord H may have had {it's debatable}, his control over his gang is fragile at best. So if the compound dwellers had simply walked away, the temptation of people like Wez {and his confederates} to run them down, loot, pillage and murder them would've been too great. It's dog eat dog and take what you can get. The good guys of course had the remaining fuel in their vehicles, extra weapons, fresh{er} food, etc; a tantalizing target.

Debatable. I mean, all the adults in the marauders group were around before the collapse of society, so many of them would at least be aware of morals and have a conscience. They’re in a survival situation so they do what they must to survive, but if given the option, you’d assume some of them would still be decent people. A few of them are even ex-cops. I imagine the Humungus himself was honorable and would have upheld the bargain, as would some of his followers. However, I imagine a good portion of his followers are criminals, mentally unstable, or just caught up in the free-for-all world, and that portion would definitely have raped and killed the compound people.

The bandits have more vehicles than the people with the oil well and refinery infrastructure. They at least need a small Dodge ex-BP tanker with a trailer to make it at least a bit believable.

Did you even watch the movie? They were surrounded and in dwindling numbers compared to the Humungus' gang. Simply leaving would've been a death sentence without some kind of {SPOILER} diversion and chicanery... The warriors in the diversion got killed so the weaker men, women and children could make their escape.
