Same story I was told he wrote the song for his wife because the Band was going on Tour with no intention of recording it also in the 70's my college roommate worked for a concert promotor in NYC & he was asking me if I heard of a Band called Styx he had never heard of them but said tickets for their concert sold out in 2 hours & they were adding another show told him I wasn't surprised because their music was in the juke box of the place I ran & their songs got a lot of play !
This is from their “Cornerstone” album which was released in Oct of 1979 as I began my junior year in high school. In my senior year I got a girlfriend who came in as a sophomore…Styx was her favorite band and this became one of our songs. After many years, we are now married…and it is still one of our songs!
The very best "Love" songs came out of the 60's and 70's - Heartfelt, genuine, touches the heart and soul - songs of that era cannot be beat. Nothing today compares to songs like this of yesterday. Nothing! enjoy your reaction ty
Great reaction!!! Great song!!! I had the pleasure of going to a Styx Concert in 1980 right about when this song came out. I went with the lead singer's (Dennis DeYoung) sister in law (his wife's sister) on a date accompanied by his wife. What an experience. We went in a limo to the concert and got to go back stage. But, one of the best part's of the experience was when he sang this song "Babe" he came into the audience and sang it right in front of his wife. An experience I'll never forget!!!
Styx. Saw them with Peter Frampton and Journey. Great concert. Great vocals, harmony and tender lyrics. Babe I love you! So now you know! ❤️ Video put faces to the talent, songwriting, musicianship and performance. Lyrics are just words. You guys need a live concert to understand.
Produced by Styx. Written by Dennis De Young. He was going to keep it private. But he changed his mind. Styx won a Grammy 🏆 Great decision 👍 Great ballad. 👍 Suggested video 📹: Love at First Sight.
Dennis DeYoung has such a beautiful vibrato! And the harmonies with Tommy Shaw are super incredible. PLEASE react to Snowblind. A harder rock song from them.
One of my favorite Styx songs. This is from their, "Cornerstone", album. Styx has lots of great albums like, "Grand Illusion", "Pieces Of Eight", "Paradise Theater", and many others. ✌️
Oh my word. This used to be one of the songs they played for couples to "slow skate". There was a guy (I still remember his name...Dale) I always wanted to ask me to skate, but he never did. I love this song, but never could remember it was by Styx.
I will just say I danced to this song a lot in middle school. Good memories. I can also being in the park with a boom box listening to this with a young lady.
You two are so cute!! Out of all of the other reaction videos out there with couples, you guys are by far the best & the added chemistry (obvious) between you just makes it that much better!! It's great to see H & W enjoying things together
The 70's were good and bad but after our marriage ended, I used to play this song but after the abuse I realized I have a better life to live. As I aged I reflect back on the good times only. My life is full now. Love the adopted grandkids too.🙂
He, Dennis DeYoung, wrote the music and lyrics to this song (including the piano which he is playing) - for his wife - because he missed her so much when out on tour.
Love this song. I've never been a 70's rock fan. In fact there is many YT comment sections with my derogatory comments towards 70's rock. But this song is and always will be great. Thankfully it came out close enough to the 80's :P
Why dont you like 70s Rock ? Alot of the best rock songs ever are from the 1970s .. Want me to name you maybe 500 or so And close to the 80s ,,,But its not lol
You have to listen to "Lady". I would never steer you wrong! I also love "The Best of Times" "Queen of Spades" " Fooling Yourself". The Jay Sekulow Band did a cover of "Fooling Yourself" and it sounds incredible (one of the singers from Kansas sings on it).
If this tickled you two - try "Best of Times" same singer. Remember Styx had three vocalists each with different songs they were lead on. This was Dennis DeYoung. I think you did Come Sail Away. That was also Dennis I think you did Renegade. That's Tommy Shaw. (he was the shorter of the blond-haired guitarists doing the harmonies). Tommy's best IMO is "Man In the Wilderness" and "Crystal Ball". Two of my all time favs. I think BJ would really like these - both are about a man trying to find his place in the world.
That keys sound you like is a Fender Rhodes Electric Piano. Slightly overdriven with a slow tremolo. These were some of the best road pianos available at the time because they never went out of tune. Used metal tines and bars, like a xylophone, instead of strings. Using guitar pickup technology to amplify the vibrations. Been out of production for a while, if you find one for sale today it can be quite pricey.
Requested this song on the radio for my girlfriend now wife the night before I left for basic training many years ago. We've been together since I was 15 give or take a few years and I'm 54 now. Styx has a huge category of songs that are all good until their album Kilroy was Here. Only album I did not like
Great love song by Dennis DeYoung. When I saw him in concert a few years ago he and his wife were still together. Many more great Styx songs to get to!!
Fender Rhodes 'sparkle' voice tone can't be beat. Tommy Shaw's higher octave backing adds richness to Dennis deYoung melancholy tones. A chick song, clubs often used it as SuperMixer and PartnerOpenPick SlowDance song. Classic RockBallad.
I know everyone's memories are equally precious, but mannnnn.... Young people, don't "live it up" while you're young, rather enjoy and appreciate as many days , as much time as u have in your youth. Be kind to others, respectful of your elders, listen to Mom n Pop and you'll have a great life, wonderful memories. David in Kentucky ♥️🇺🇲
When this song started playing at the roller skating rink, you had about ten seconds to find a pretty girl's hand to grab and get out on the floor or you might as well go home.
This is Dennis D in his element. Add Tommy Shaw vocals for the best Styx rock. These guys could do it all before Dennis wanted to do futuristic musical theatre…..
Absolutely one of the greatest love songs of them all. If you have not done Grand Illusion, or Blue Collar Man I think you'd love them. Great reaction. You 2 too cute together too.
STYX doesn't play 'Babe' since Dennis DeYoung left the group. The song was ode to his wife. He wrote the song as a birthday present for his wife Suzanne. It was not intended to be a Styx song.
Realty Check Here Please. When he singing this song towards his Lady and him and the crowd feeling all goose bumps about it, in her situation right at that moment she not feeling same way. The kids running around like crazy kids, deliberately by the way, trying to entertain themselves seeing how long it takes mom to snap.
Thank you for your reaction. If you like this song you check out Lady by Styx Both Babe and Lady were written by Dennis DeYoung for his wife. Just make sure you check out the original version from 1972 and not the redone version made in '95
Songs like this actually caused a rift within the band. Dennis DeYoung wanted to do more ballads like this one, while the guitar players James and Tommy wanted to take the band in a more hard rock direction. It ultimately led to the band's demise. There have been reunions, but Dennis still refuses to perform with them.
If I remember correctly, he wrote this song for his wife. When his record company herd this they pressured him to put it out, big success. Nice to see the vids back. So when are you going to do hot for teacher the right way? You won't be disappointed.
Snowblind is a heavy , dark song about cocaine. I feel it's their best song. Their song "Lady" was their first hit , very much follows this song style . But of course Lady was first
This is my favorite Styx song! I love to sing along! Dennis DeYoung’s voice is so beautiful! ❤️❤️
One of the best things about so many songs from that era is how unashamedly romantic they are.
His voice is so clean, crystal clear! And this song is just beautiful ♥️
What a great band and song! He dedicated that song to his wife! That song was a real big hit for them in 1979!👌😎👍
The singer wrote this song for his wife, the record label heard it and liked it so much they insisted the band release it as a single

I grew up listening to Styx and this is one of my favorites!
Barry White's "Cant get enough of your love" What an amazingly deep voice. You will never forget it! Smooth as silk!
Yes!
Absolutely love this song 💕
I saw them in concert for the ‘Paradise Theatre’ Tour at Madison Square Garden in 1982. I was 19 years old. WOW!
Styx. Saw them with Peter Frampton and Journey. Great concert. Great vocals, harmony and tender lyrics. Babe I love you! So now you know! ❤️
Video put faces to the talent, songwriting, musicianship and performance. Lyrics are just words. You guys need a live concert to understand.
Cool lineup; cool show to have seen. I've seen a lot of shows but never those three where and when did you catch it?
I saw them in Germany in 1982. The played the entire concert by themselves, not even a warm up band. It was awesome.
Asia, he WAS swooning you!!! 💕
Produced by Styx.
Written by Dennis De Young. He was going to keep it private. But he changed his mind. Styx won a Grammy 🏆 Great decision 👍
Great ballad. 👍
Suggested video 📹: Love at First Sight.
Dennis DeYoung has such a beautiful vibrato! And the harmonies with Tommy Shaw are super incredible.
PLEASE react to Snowblind. A harder rock song from them.
As has been noted, Dennis wrote this for his wife. They have celebrated over 50 years of marriage.
Styx,,has tons, of great material to go thru.
The album this was from (Cornerstone) was 1979.
I was probably early junior high when this song came out, and I’ve never not loved it! It stands the test of time, just a beautiful song!
Grade 7, magic times on the Juke Box
Me too! And it played at all the dances.
One of my favorite Styx songs. This is from their, "Cornerstone", album. Styx has lots of great albums like, "Grand Illusion", "Pieces Of Eight", "Paradise Theater", and many others. ✌️

I've seen Styx live six times. First time was in 1977. I was 14! They are in my top 5 fave's along with Rush, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, and Chicago!
Have seen Styx 3 times. Saw Dennis DeYoung, the lead singer/song writer more recently. I grew up with this band.
Wait til the close of song wow
The 70's were good and bad but after our marriage ended, I used to play this song but after the abuse I realized I have a better life to live. As I aged I reflect back on the good times only. My life is full now. Love the adopted grandkids too.🙂
aww Asia's just swooning soo cute
So many hits..so always on the radio..biggest arena band in their time..so why isn't this band in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?..
This was our slow skate song at the skating rink when I was in 8th grade.
He, Dennis DeYoung, wrote the music and lyrics to this song (including the piano which he is playing) - for his wife - because he missed her so much when out on tour.

lol...I knew Asia would like this one a lot.

YES! I've been waiting for you to react to this song. I knew Asia would enjoy the song. So good!
Dennis DeYoung, one of my fav male singers.
Thank you nothing but love
OMG... look how young Tommy Shaw is!
Requested this song on the radio for my girlfriend now wife the night before I left for basic training many years ago. We've been together since I was 15 give or take a few years and I'm 54 now. Wow bud what a great story..thank you for keeping me a little bit Freer..
Great love song by Dennis DeYoung. When I saw him in concert a few years ago he and his wife were still together. Many more great Styx songs to get to!!
Check out their song "Suite Madame Blue".
Love this song. It was my first 45 record. I was 13.
Almost 50 years later his wife was on stage with him when he performed this song at out little SKYPAC.
This is my favorite Styx. Checkout Lady.
That was a cool video. That was the studio track laid over live footage with someone fading in a clap track here and there.
"snow blind" is my favorite from Styx, and definitely worth a listen
This brings back great memories when I was in junior high in 1980-81. 👍🏼
Released in Oct 1979 , The 70s had so many great songs and BABE IS JUST ONE OF THEM
Dennis still has the same singing voice. I'm Japanese, but when I first heard this song some 40 years ago, I was so moved that I was shocked.
Fender Rhodes 'sparkle' voice tone can't be beat. Tommy Shaw's higher octave backing adds richness to Dennis deYoung melancholy tones. A chick song, clubs often used it as SuperMixer and PartnerOpenPick SlowDance song. Classic RockBallad.
Lady would be good for you Asia. They are still touring & a great 70’s / 80’s band .
Love seeing young people watching this!
Come Sail Away is a other amazing song by Styx!
Yes, an amazing song you have to try. But do the studio version, not the video one because it is incomplete.
That was Live too !
I know everyone's memories are equally precious, but mannnnn.... Young people, don't "live it up" while you're young, rather enjoy and appreciate as many days , as much time as u have in your youth. Dennis DeYoung wrote Babe and Lady for his wife. Lady is a must listen to. It is early Styx...
When this song started playing at the roller skating rink, you had about ten seconds to find a pretty girl's hand to grab and get out on the floor or you might as well go home.
another song that is so beautiful is "boat on the river"
Seen them 3 times 2 in my home town Wichita falls TX. And at the Texas jam Dallas.
Guys I was 18 when I saw Styx it always stuck with me thru life.
If you haven’t already, listen to “Lady”.
This is Dennis D in his element. Add Tommy Shaw vocals for the best Styx rock. These guys could do it all before Dennis wanted to do futuristic musical theatre…..
I have seen a few countdowns of greatest soft rock hits and this is always near the top.
Asia will love, the best of times, by Styx.
Absolutely one of the greatest love songs of them all. If you have not done Grand Illusion, or Blue Collar Man I think you'd love them. Great reaction. You 2 too cute together too.
Suite Madam Blue...STYX
...you won't be disappointed!
That lick has been used in so many songs
A great song, memories of couples skating as a teen!
STYX doesn't play 'Babe' since Dennis DeYoung left the group. The song was ode to his wife. He wrote the song as a birthday present for his wife Suzanne. It was not intended to be a Styx song.

Am I the only who’s gonna mention “The Boys Are Back In Town” is Thin Lizzy?
Im a Tommy Shaw guy but this is truly great by Dennis Deyoung.
Madam Blue is a great song by Styx
I got my first kiss on this song in Jr.high dance..
You should check out their song. Miss America. A hidden gem that alot of people don't react to
Thank you for your reaction.
If you like this song you check out
Lady by Styx
Both Babe and Lady were written by Dennis DeYoung for his wife.
Just make sure you check out the original version from 1972 and not the redone version made in '95
How in the world does the same guy who growled out "Miss America" turn around and hit these high harmonies?
Is this a ballad ?......That's the funniest thing I've heard all year.
Check out Love In The Midnight, Man In The Wilderness, Love At First Sight, and Lorelei by Styx.
They were great back in the 80s Mr Roboto.
Yes but Babe is a 70s party
As a metalhead, I'm definitely not much for love songs, but this is a good one.
His voice ain't the only thing saturated at that point
The song the band hated to play but dennis deyoung
Songs like this actually caused a rift within the band. Dennis DeYoung wanted to do more ballads like this one, while the guitar players James and Tommy wanted to take the band in a more hard rock direction. It ultimately led to the band's demise. Liston to the fans in the back ground

You should listen to Neil Sedaka- Laughter in the Rain. You will enjoy it as well.
Someday you'll have to react to 'Show Me The Way' (official video) by Styx!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Paradise theater is a great album
Best thing about that era was YOU had to bring it. There wasn't anything but reverb back then. The rest was all one you.
You should also react to "The Best Of Times."
Styx Lady
Another Styx 70s song
Top 5 greatest song ever
Asia is gone!!! She is in Love with Styx!!!! She's in another dimension>>>>Styx Dimension....hahahaha....lol.....hahahaha....
This song is saturated with fat haha! Try listening to "Too Much Time On My Hands" it's a really fun song!
