I love this aria. One of my favorites. I have listened to almost all the versions on TH-cam and I never get tired. Superb virtuosity, the orchestra's tremolos are perfect. Every time I listen to it, my spirits go up. Thanks Handel. I am obsessed with your operas
She is definitely one of the best mezzos, if not singers, today. She has a really comfortable timbre, as well as a secure voice in all ranges. She's very pretty too :D
After listening to about 40 versions I can tell this one is my favourite, not only because of the amazing presence of Didonat, but also because it's my favourite musical direction. They do a fabulous job
When I see Joyce perform I remember how serious opera is and all the rules in getting it right no matter how good the contestants sound when they enter the Met opera competitions. Opera is like a complex poem to be handled with total uniqueness and not just for the same of singing it because your voice sounds cookie cutter to greats
DiDonato is brilliant !! She displays " Callas like tendancies" in her voice ! I have just recently discovered her, and was delighted to find this post ! Thank you for making it available to us !!
Wow! What a great song and great performance as well! :D Händel was merciless! O_O Look at the huge distance between that high note to the low one she sang at the 2:04 of the song!
I'm so glad I decided to do a TH-cam search on Joyce tonight - had not seen this glorious video. Brava brava brava as always - Joyce is amazing. In my opinion, no one does it better.
Wow!! So this was the starting shot into her fairy tale Handel year 2008. I heard Crude Furie 2x live and can only report the theatre was bursting each time. I'd be SO happy if she sang more baroque, because not every good post-baroque singer (that JDD is as well) is a good baroque singer. She's one of the very very few, well she succeeded to sing Ariodante, that says all. Handel rules!
I love that part around 0:36 to 0:40 where DiDonato goes slightly up and down with "aspergetemi...crude furie" and the orchestra strings do the same. Baroque music can be so passionate!
God, France is France, after all, for having an award show dedicated to classical music. I envy all you French. It seems/sounds to me that Ensemble Matheus more often perform at A=440. What's up with that?!
Very good. But I heard my compatriote Katharina Karnéus in this role at the English National Opera (the ENO) and she was incredible. The production was incredibly good.
My university performed Serse last semester and this is my favorite Handel aria! I also really like the historically informed performance offered here too... Can anyone tell me, are they at 415 or 440? I don't have perfect pitch. brilliant performance either way, just curious. Bravo!
This is simply an impossibly difficult and marvelous performance. Absolutely breathtaking. Of equal magnificence is Rolando Villazon's version of the same aria. Bravi Ms. DiDonato and thank you for posting.
Crude furie degl'orridi abissi aspergetemi d'atro veleno Crolli il mondo, e 'l sole s'eclissi a quest'ira che spira il mio seno!" - You savage furies from the hideous abysses inspire me with your venom! Let the world turn to ash and the sun be eclipsed by my anger, till my heart bursts with fury!
Does anyone have the sheet music to this aria...?!?!?!? If someone does, please send me a message. I really really really need the sheetmusic for this piece. THANKS ;)
I also like DiDonato a lot -- but prefer Rasmussen's version of this. Part of it is timbre -- Rasmussen's is still focused, but deeper and richer. While she get's the fury part right, she's also in total control. Yes this is shrieky in spots, and I don't like the ornamentation nearly as much. Rasmussen's da capo is right on the money. Breathtaking. And speaking of Graham, I'm sure she can sing this better than the one representation on TH-cam. Anybody got a better one?
1. Happy new year wiener :-) I hope we'll survive with presumably less than 8x Vivica, she's touring so far away ... 2. Mija: haven't decided yet, if I manage a Radamisto ticket for Friday, too, I'll do the trip to exciting Karlsruhe. 3. Why does obviously only France manage to have TV shows like this with Joyce?? The pendant in Germany would be a tenor singing a transposed version (in German language). Result: my parents still get a shock when they see a castrato role performed by a woman.
love how serious she is also how serious the orchestra is and how serious the conductor is! great job to all of you!

Seriously one of my favorite videos of all time. She is at the absolute top of her game here.

She is so great 🌹🌹💐💐💚💙💜🧡🖤💖❤💞
This is just nuts!!!!! Beastly singing! Nothing better!
Everest. No one can beat this.
Such "Crude Furie" OMG. Such power and emotions. This aria has revived in the voice of Goddess Di Donato.
Sensationnel interprétation de Joyce Di Donato ! Quelle attaque et superbe orchestre , j'en reste sans mot .....
Super, super, super - one of Handel's most difficult arias she masters so easily!
FABULOUS!!!!!!
Yes, Joyce is perfect Maria Stuarda. Unforgettable.
To have the chance to see Monsieur Spinosi's conduction is just priceless! He's sooooooooo pasionate!
Joyce really fights like a wounded falcon in combat..She does great in scene! 👏👏👏
Ça donne la chair de poule. Ça prend aux tripes ! Sublime ! Merci Heandel !
Bellissima interpretazione del grande Handel sia dell'Ensemble che della brava Joyce DiDonato.
Christ's sake... this lady's voice is just BEAUTIFUL. Is rare to find such richeness in notes as furious as those! WOW tottaly BRAVA!
My god Handel is a god, and she is divine.
Absolutely GORGEOUS! Brava DiDonato! ♥
Handel number one 😊❤

I am so happy for Joyce DiDonato plans to stay in Norway the rest of the life
I'm glad to hear someone else is playing this a lot. I'm embarased to think how frequently I've been playing this. She is something else!
goosebumps, just goosebumps!!! I love this woman! Brava!

Just awesome
Muy buena interpretación con pasión y fuerza
Fabulosa DiDonato !!!!!
One of a kind interpretation by the inimitable Divine Di Donato and a great job by The Ensemble Matheus under Spinosi.
Fantastic energy!
Handle wrote for Joyce.. everybody knows that!!! So much love for the pair of them.
¡Impresionante!
I think this is the fastest i have ever added anything to my favorites list. Absolutely MAGNIFICENT.

Excellent in a single word
She is just pure utter amazingness, love her!

Thanks for this - loved this done by Susan Graham in San Francisco, but this is even better!
sublime voix et tres belle
What a voice...beautiful performance.....superrrrr.....
Very good. But I heard my compatriote Katharina Karnéus in this role at the English National Opera (the ENO) and she was incredible. The production was incredibly good.
Wow... incredible performance
Very exciting performance from Miss diDonato, as well as the ensemble!

Oh man can wait to see her in Rosalinda at the Met's next season!
That young lady on the cello is loving it (2:44) !
¡BRAVA!
@classicalgalNYC You're right. Thanks for correcting me.
Wow! She's pretty good and has a big voice to be so small. Wonder why I've never heard of her!
WOW!
I think this is best verson

Villazon did pretty bad technically. And the embellishments also weren't very tasteful in my opinion. DiDonato is far better.
Every time I listen to this, in the end, I always think I had an heart attack and that I haven't noticed it
かっこいいなぁ。。
En Fuego...
I think half of the fun of watching this, is Spinosi conducting.

She's a long way from Kansas.
Why is that woman wearing a purple dress?
All guns blazing!
Justin Bieber plays violin?
Ayyyy lmao
JCS is the most handsome conductor on the planet. Sorry, that was irrelevant really.
Music teacher drag me here UwU
