so a $10 walmart helmet can pass the test and be considered safe??? and yet the chinese ones are bad because we want you to pay $300 for our "branded" ones which are also made in china

Cos it takes time to think of a perfect mold, good air flow but strong, quality materials, and comfy, that's why!

did they actually show the fake helmet in the testing equipment from start to finish because all I saw is them taking it off the tester. Their video is fake.!!!!!

For those who concerned about the price, look at the inside of the helmet and check if there is a certified sticker for safety reasons. The expensive one does not improve much, just lighter and quirky for performance pros.

So your head should be certified too, with sticker. 😊

What these prices means? I've bought an original Giro helmet for about 3 years ago... It was ~ 50 bucks. It has a big box, instructions, all safety stickers in place, even a sticker with your data (in case of something). As I remember it had a serial number.
But it wasn't even close to 300$ price tag like I've seen in this video. I assume it can be a tricky marketing maneuver to legalise prices' rising!
Yeah, I guess that these money can go for good aims like further R&D... much better safety quality in future... but here is no warranty that the company managers will not just spend it to buy fancy cars, yachts or a big castle somewhere. It's the World of capitalism basically. "Don't believe! Only proofs!" (c)

      damn right.
Those effort to make all those details, well...they were required because the BIG BRAND names wants those details.
      So the factory does it.

I grew up riding in Bronx traffic day and night. No helmet, no lights, against traffic, high and drunk flying down hills in the 70s. Never fell or a scratch. Lucky.

I don't know why it is thot that the helmet should break on impact. I would think that it should not break on impact

    Branded helmet :
70% look, big name, development cost
    30% safety
I mean there's alot of cycling helmet that more expensive than reguler motorcycle helmet, that's why ppl choose buying counterfeits

You can find cheap chinese brands (that actually have good reputation) and not counterfeit... they are just as good as 200-300 helmets. All of them are made from same material in the end.
But I guess some are more into the religion of a brand name... each to its own...

Actually the fake helmet absorb the impact better

    • @BikeHelmetMk2
      @BikeHelmetMk2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@dermax_hd Depends on the impact. Concrete or metal or anything hard will go right through the foam-only ones. A car windshield would be particularly bad. For light impacts... tree branches or dirt/grass, you might be better off having more foam crush-zone. But if there's a rock in that dirt, you're back to wanting the rigid structure to hold together so that you don't crack your skull open.
Whatever type you've got, it might also be a good idea to get some elbow, arm and wrist padding. Then you've got the choice of shielding your head from impacts with your arms.

Unfortunately, no. See, we ordinary people have the 'impression' we understand these things by the looks. The same way we had the impression the big long hood cars from the 70's were perfectly safe - which was false. Same with these helmets, the fact it broke it doesn't mean 'it absorbed more energy' so the person is safer. We simply cannot measure these things visually. What matters is the level of 'acceleration' of the head. At 0:48, the genuine helmet causes 100G to the head, at 1:07 the fake helmet gets over 450G to the head, quite a bit of difference. The fake helmet material also appears much less flexible, more brittle, which explains why the head absorbs much more of the impact energy, compared to the genuine product. It shows the chinese helmets are made of a cheaper, more brittle Polystyrene, they are basically only aesthetic, not functional - or at least significantly less protective compared to a quality product.
