Kathmandu is a wonderful city with so much history and a number of tasty Nepalese street food ( • Nepali Street Food - D... ) snacks to sample. One of the popular snacks is known as chatamari (also known as chataamari). It's basically a cross between a crepe or pancake and a pizza, I prefer to compare it to the latter as it has so many different toppings.
The base of chatamari चतांमरि is created from a batter made from rice flour. The vendor first poured the batter onto a hot skillet and then flattened it out with the bottom of the scooper. She then immediate tossed on a mixture of egg beaten up with minced buffalo and a variety of spices. After spreading it all out evenly on top of the base, she then plopped another egg right into the middle of the Nepalese street food pizza. A few slivers of tomato and some cilantro and salt were then added to the top. The chatamari was then covered with a clay top and cooked for a few moments before being ready.
Once my piping hot pancake was fully cooked, the friendly vendor took it off the griddle, sliced it up into smaller bite sizes pieces and then place the entire pizza into a leaf bowl to eat. I was delighted and hungry to sample my first buffalo egg Nepalese pizza!
The Nepalese Chatamari चतांमरि was just about as delicious as you can imagine. The base of the pancake was soft and pillowy and the toppings were spicy and flavorful. Buffalo is a very common meat to eat in Nepal, and it's very fragrant with a stronger or more gamey flavor than beef.
Chatamari is originally a Newari food ( • Nepali Newari Food - E... , traditionally served in the Kathmandu valley area during feasts and gatherings. Nowadays the Nepalese pancake is served all over the streets of Kathmandu. It makes a great protein filled snack if you're looking for something salty when walking around!

Mark Wiens Chatamari is a Newari Food of Nepal.
Newari culture and its food itself is older than most of the countries in the world.
And some Indians come around saying its indian food (LOL)
    What??? What am i listening?
Don't some people feel ashamed to claim things which isn't theirs.
Sometimes barking Buddha is indian actually "Buddha was born in Nepal".
    And everyone knows that.

It's part of the amazing food experience to be able to see the preparation and the ingredients that are going into the food you're about to eat - rather than just a cooked plate of food appearing in front of you - that's one of the reasons I love traveling and eating so much! Thank you for all your support and I hope you can travel more in the future!

Hey Jerry, good question. Right now I'm actually in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. I'm often in places where the internet connection is not good enough to upload videos, so yes I pre-record and then schedule to publish on weds and sun. I was in India and Nepal about 5 months ago, and while I was there I was recording every day, sometimes 2-3 vids a day, so then just slowly releasing them.

I feel bad for people in Nepal. If they charge so minimal, they get paid so minimal. I would leave each street vendor $20-$100 tip.
Thank you Mark for bringing recognition to all vendors, restaurants, airlines, hotels, etc. Yes we could always check internet before travel- but you bring it to life. First hand we can say, I'm flying Muhan Airline when I go to Iran- Mark traveled this airline & they had great service & food. I'm going to get this food plate at this location where Mark ate, or I'm going to stay at this hotel where Mark and his family stayed, etc,.
•••Can you show us where we might get great souvenirs on your next travels- maybe even showing some souvenirs, providing name, website and phone number of business- for some who cant travel but order to give out as gifts•••. The business could $ for the advertisement as you have a huge following.
    Keep up the great job!!!
Still waiting on tshirt or hoodie with " Oh Wooww", & your pick ( cartoon style) - dont forget chili 🌶 and 👍.

Well, It is called CHATAMARI. It is a mix dish. U can call it Pizza or Pan cake. If you make is plaine without adding anything. It is a kind of Rice Pan Cake. Because it is maked of Rice flour. If you add some thing in it, it becomes a kind of Pizza. If you put an egg in it, It becomes an omlett pizza. Ha ha. Enjoy Newar Cuisine ( One of Nepalese Cuisines). There is a lot to be discovered.
