Lol, why I did get this on my recommended list now (7 years later)? But watching this Veloster I can tell how much Hyundai has upped their game, I never would have considered buying this car but today's Veloster N...just WOW! That's a car I'd own if it was offered where I live.
I think this car has one of the prettiest rear ends of any new hatchback.
The front certainly is iffy, but I think it's an acquirable taste.
It makes a relatively good noise, with that extremely responsive and punchy little 1.6 twin scroll turbo, producing 200 HP. The interior is fantastic, however, with an aura of quality and attractive simplicity. The stout little shifter fits pretty easy to hand, and doesn't require a massive throw to get in gear. Looking out the window and seeing the downward sloping side window, with the ridiculously nasty amount of headroom in the back, and the instant responsiveness, you get the feeling you are in a little more than half of a Nissan GTR.
It's really a great little car all around I think.
i was twisting right onto the freeway on ramp when i notice it was almost a 360 curve i had already passed 60 miles per hour- and the car started to drift side ways! very even drifting. i discovered a monster.

I own a NA veloster 6spd. Things that I do hate about it is... the horrible torsion twist beam rear axle suspension and how the car doesn't come with a Limited slip differential . I always catch mine doing 1 wheel peel outs when pulling out in traffic. I could only imagine 195 pounds feet of torque will do. Everything else I love.

You have to take into consideration warranty, and cost to own. GTI's, although they are getting better are a very finicky car, a friend of mine who owns a 2012 goes into the shop more than he should have since he's owned it, and they aren't cheap to fix. Where as the Hyundai is pretty cheap to fix, and has a spectacular warranty. But it all depends on what you want.

Its a rough life for us tall dudes and cool lookin cars. I ended up for 2nd best with a turbo Chevy Sonic, gotta say it was more fun to drive though.

who's playing the bongos in the background? Oh, that's the expressway road surface! :) I noticed it in the Mini Cooper-S vid you did. I think the road noise was a bit more muted in the Mini, but still seemed intrusive. Can you bypass the urban roads and sort of showcase these sporty cars on appropriately "Winding" roads? Time to put the Focus ST in perspective now. Otherwise, keep 'em coming!
noticed the traction control blink, i could notice the car isnt very grippy on wet roads, but to be far pushing 50mph on those turns isnt the best idea but it pushes the cars grip level i guess harder to see what it can do.

3:50 What the heck are you doing with the wheel on that curve. I've never seen someone go over the line so much and rip on the wheel going around a basic curve.
The steering feel in these cars is 0 .. any tight turns suck in this car you can't tell what the front is doing
+matthew von I daily a '14 Sonata 2.4. I don't want to imagine what it would be like to drive a Veloster Turbo considering how weightless the steering rack in the Sonata is...
Max C I took one of these for a test drive after reading those comments and it's false. It handles normally.
Gaming101 YMMV. I'm used to driving cars prior to 2005, and usually with hydraulic (if present) power steering.

It all has to do with how the camera catches the light since they are HID and LED giving the appearance of flickering... I go into this in much greater detail but don't have the time.
I agree it needs a better exhaust note to compete in the segment
Can't say either way, but I'm driving a 2013 Accent GLS. Seems pretty low rent but for the price, you can't really complain (too much).
The GTI here in Canada is only $2000 or so more than the Veloster Turbo. I think if I'm paying close to $30k CND, I would give the GTI or Focus ST a serious look. Actually, for that kind of money, a Focus ST is better than the GTI for my money.

This car is kind of like the AMC pacer. Easier rear seat entrance on the passenger side. Styling is based off practicality.
I'd like a Veloster spec'd exactly the same way...

@TotallyWow123 You do realize this is the turbo version with 201 hp right? It isn't that piece of shit they released in 2012, and the fact you haven't driven one means you should probably go do so and see if you opinion changes.

The interior is fine and pickup seems great. If only the rear end wasn't wailed on by an ugly stick.
Nope but i really dislike it because its a very weak car its supposed to be strong cuz it looks really sporty and btw the only hyundai i like is the sonata much better than the veloster!

I would buy a used car before a new one just incase you damage it. I own a 2010 hyundai elantra 5 speed manual. After it dies I getting this car.

My Sons modded RSX type S would pass this turd so fast it would be a wine red blur shifting at 10K rpm, and your insistence of headphones if offensive, I have logitech THX speakers, they kick arse, myself, I do Audi I 5 URQ, that sound rocks, and my Sons car at 10K RPM phucking A, winding road rocks!, he drove by the shop one day, a co worker said I thought you would not let let your Son drive a donor cycle, I said nope, that is his car
