True story, my dad was audited like thirty years ago. He kept all his admittedly complicated tax documents in boxes in a garage, and cats had been having babies and sh!dding in those boxes for years. He told the tax guy to make himself at home and the guy pored over those documents for days. In the end he was just like "You owe the government five hundred dollars" lolol. Dad said there was no way he could have gotten any information out of that filth-encrusted mound of refuse. It was just a ritual, a display, nothing more.

I respect the hustle, don't get me wrong, but adding the game title is useful to me and tbh I think it'll improve your success in the algorithm because people searching for reviews of games by their name are going to be more likely to find your videos and watch them too.

@@hic_tus Ah, if I could press a button that would eliminate clickbait from the world you'd better believe that thing would get worked harder than Taylor Swift's private jet.
But like I said, I respect the hustle - we live in a clickbait world because we have clickbait brains and there's nothing that's gonna change that. Splat works hard and I can only wish him all the best success, even if that means that he's gotta play to clickbait rather than adhere to my personal preference.

    • @Lowkeh
      @Lowkeh 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@jessl1934 I recently found out that the guy who made the browser extension/API 'SponsorBlock' has created something called 'Dearrow'.
Apparently, Dearrow changes clickbait thumbnails, and even titles(!) on TH-cam to something less clickbaity.
However, I haven't had the time to try it out just yet, so I've no idea how well it works-whether it retains the game title, puts the title up front, or removes it (which would be counterintuitive).
But I thought I'd mention it anyway since it seems relevant to your interests.
The extension's website (1st google result on query: Dearrow) is descriptive and has a pretty neat 3-minute demo video further down.

4:30 For some reason this kind of aesthetic comprises what is known as "analog horror". If it ain't low fidelity and doesn't show that glitchy, noisy, VHS-like artifacts of yesteryear, it might disappoint some people (or simply lacks the trademarks of the very subculture supposed to pick it up).
So people didn't just "discover" VHS filters, it is the whole subgenre of aesthetics and product delivery that significantly overlaps with the product placement, like for example "detective noir" or the one that you glorify all the time (yet I'm sick of it) "the grimdark". You can't just move away from it, or add an option to make the product less "detective noir" that's completely counterproductive.
It's the palette, the music, the atmosphere, and the expectations that go along with it. This helps producers establish the tone and very clearly communicate who it's for, like the way death metal goes hand in hand with skulls and all things black or family friendly content rhyming with cutesy characters, bubbly shapes and wobbly animation.
Everyone likes to anchor their product close to known subcultures, and to fine tune them until they become a brandable fashion. Star Wars, Fallout, Cyberpunk, Warhammer, and by extension less proprietary universes, anything Lovecraft, Japanese anime, 30's cartoons, nazi zombies, you name it, anything that hit the nail on the head and garnered some fandom, is then adopted as a de facto canon and absolutely has to be instantly imitated without any doubt.

I waited _years_ for E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy, and it was certainly not an "early" Steam title. It used to be the only way to actually beat any missions was either to play a specific combat class and get good RNG, or open up a lobby to just swarm the objectives. Okay times, very rare achievements (0.2% for playing a certain class).

CRT Lines can be really neat, they made old games have natural antialising that is what a lot of older games actually felt like they looked better in the past. But the problem with these filters is that they can't fully emulate the effect really, not only are they really cranking the effect hard which if anything makes it far too visually distracting but unless you have an oled you won't have the perfect black of the crt so you can't get.
But if someone manage to emulate CRT line perfectly then I reckon there will be a big bump in how good the retro aesthetic will look, because if you look at photo comparison of older games in HD and CRTs, specially sprite games or games with low res textures it makes the effect super evident.
And CRT filters don't have to be visually obscuring, I don't ever remembered having the CRT actually impede my vision like how a lot of CRT filters in games do.... then again as a kid I cranked the fuck out of the brightness so maybe I should play with gamma and brightness a bit more with those filters.

A good way to not get lost or miss rooms is to pick a direction (left or right) and stick with it.
For example if you choose left, at every intersection take the left hand path.
This will take you around the perimeter of the map and end where you started.
If there are interior parts of the map separate from the exterior repeat the process at the point of entry.

I think crt scanlines should only be used if they actually affect the graphics, or if the graphics are made for them. The only reason to use it is if it enhances your graphics like how actual crt scan lines were taken to mind when creating those classic retro graphics seen in older games. It makes arcade cabinet screen pixel graphics look 3d and nicer/more immersive in a way.

I hear you loud and clear about the CRT filters these days, it baffles me as to why they even use it. There is a reason we no longer use that technology anymore, I still remember when I got the 360 and my first 104cm lcd TV and how impressed I was with the massive difference in graphical fidelity going from SD to HD was huge even with the TV I had at the time which was only 720p/1080i and cost me $2100. My mate had a bravia 1080p and man was it sexy. Bioshock blew my mind at the time and now they want to make games look shit again why??? I can only imagine it's because they never lived through that time and it is a gimmick/novelty for them or they feel nostalgic about CRT maybe? Either way I'm glad we now have 4k and it's cheaper than my 720p TV was lol

"Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided." - Brian eno.

Hey Splat any way you could start uploading in 1440p? It would be greatly appreciated if you could do that as I do believe 1440p is more adopted then before!

Everytime I watch someone play a game like this I go full OCD about turning off the lantern/flashlight and it drives me crazy.

the filters are intended visual immersion. while your opinion is just as valid and important as anyone else's. being a stupid neckbeard that I am, i've just gotta state. the filters are for the purpose of Immersion for those of us who prefer to be immersed in our game, reminisce about old days. and allow us to shut out the world and play a game that pulls us directly into it, outside of it's visual format. because the visual format is necessary for the lack of disconnect.

Speaking of X-Com Enemy Unknown being one of the best games ever, assuming you meant the original... Did you ever play Jagged Alliance 2? I bet a lot of viewers would be amazed by that game even if its getting older.
