- From "The West Wing" to "House of Cards," TV shows and movies have long attempted to take us inside the White House. But what's life really like working inside 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? We'll go behind the scenes with former members of the Obama administration as they give us their inside take on the culture, intrigue, and routines of the world's most famous workplace. The panelists are Jon Favreau, former director of speechwriting for President Obama; Katie McCormick Lelyveld, former press secretary for First Lady Michelle Obama; Chris Lu, Cabinet secretary and former assistant to the President; Elizabeth Jarvis Shean, former White House research director; and Kenneth Walsh (moderator), chief White House correspondent, U.S. News and World Report, and author of "Prisoners of the White House."

Pragmatism, intellect, communication, common purpose, service..policy, advisory- driven, possibilities..traits that are sorely missed.. replaced by something that is quite alarming.
The lack thereof is exquisitely painful. Shocking beyond what I can fathom on a daily basis. I've recently seen a graph of the horrors on a weekly basis. I'm in awe there is still a vision of how beautiful America can be~
Lynette, your observations are beautifully articulated. It's SO painful to watch this from this advantage point. Every topic covered here is a sharp slap. Imagine ANY, ANY of this being said in re Trump, Trump's staff, Trump's cabinet or Mrs Trump and the Trump family. If we ever needed visuals of how far we've gone off the rails, here they are. I'm SO homesick!

always believed that in Obama's first address to the nation he was dealing with more serious issues than was publically known.
I Love the fact that President Obama has given so Many Very Young people a chance to serve. I'm absolutely Sure this is one of the factors that assists our President to remain in tuned to the continuing and evolving pulse of the Country verses having the same stale attitude of Many of those serving multiple years in the U.S. Senate and Congress.

Well...perhaps we haven't seen/heard from the more earnest "in the shadows" WH staffers under Trump. We do know that there's been a large % of turnover....lots of more (apparent) drama....at least publicly. Curious to know how much Trump and his family might have known/learned names of their staffers, compared to the Obamas. This video came out a few months after Obama's successful re-election. Seems to me that the Obama (young) staffers compare favorably to the Clinton staffers....more balanced...less (strong) partisan opinion holding.

I love all of these former White House staffers. From what I've heard, they're absolutely brilliant. I must say I particularly loved hearing from Katie, she had such a compassionate and also logical perspective on everything.

Obama deeply cared about America, and he showed that by deeply caring and respecting his staff. What stark contrast with Trump firing and insulting so many staff. I am glad that Americans summarily fired Trump too.

The jokes in the beginning were funny. But not all of the jokes when it sounded and appeared kind of personal.
And as for the reality of the work environment, and considering the circumstances surrounding the goals, it is completely understandable. Plus, I bet the separation of a few made them work better and accomplish more work that needed to be done. Real people. Real work environment.

I was taught from a young age to treat everyone equally. Nobody deserves to be handed disadvantages nor advantages, based on race color, creed or gender. I have always live my life this way proudly as an American.(45 years). What. I hear to much, especially in this discussion. Is that certain groups of people should be given opportunity just because they are perceived to disadvantaged... This type of prejudice is no different then then the they claim to be fighting against. Politically correct means that all people regardless of race color gender be treated with equal respect and opportunity

I didn’t vote for the former President Obama, because I never heard him before and also he looked very handsome, but also looked extremely young and I guess he might have less experiences to be the President at the time and I voted Gov. Romney. I don’t agree with the former President Obama’s some policies which divided us by races, genders and between the rich and poor and I believe he may regret that too. Divide Americans would rather unite Americans as one nation under one America’s principles and future. However, President Obama’s Presidency by his own efforts and our country America’s equality of opportunities principles will make Black Americans to be proud of America’s greatness always as well as to be proud of to be Americans to enjoy equality of opportunities principles. Only America’s greatness will be able for Americans of all to be able to truly enjoy freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of opportunities for all races, genders and between the rich and poor altogether. However, I believe that the former President Obama also loves our country America and likes to see America great also by his learning experiences from mistakes and do better quickly too. No one can be perfect and no one can never make any mistakes, but to learn more to understand more and do better things quickly together. However, their two daughters were very cute girls at the time. Let’s forgive each other this time and unite together again by our generosity forgiveness and kindness nature toward each other’s service and mistakes as our own kindness and decency and unite together again by getting things done quickly together again and govern by our country America’s own established Foundation and Constitution afterward together again. We are all Americans and humans and make our country America great together again by our efforts, principles and decency altogether.

@@valchris11 Honey - I'm no party preference voter. I vote without bias and in 2016 I actually voted for Hilary since I did not want to vote for Trump. Hilary won California by 3 Million votes, but since US electoral system favors small states, she ultimately lost by 75,000 in three Rust Belt states that traditionally voted for democratic candidates - Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan. She lost election because she did not have a good Rust Belt strategy and she was not able to handle stress of the electoral process.
