Hey Davie, thank you! Those holloways are truly special, even if the carvings are fairly new 😁 the wind was INSANE! 😂 But I had fun 😊
Hi Sam! What a wonderful film. I can't get over all those faces staring back at you! My favourite is Homer as Mr Sparkle! xxx
Hey Al! Thank you so much 😁 it's an eerie and magical place for sure ✨️ I couldn't explore it all, an excuse to go back.
I like the creepy ones 💀😂 xx
Possibly return when it's a tad less windy! 💨💨💨😂xx
Excellent idea! 🤣 xx
Another fascinating video from an interesting and gorgeous lady.
Thank you
Great video ❤❤
Thank you very much!
Amazing gothic landscape, etched in time. Very enjoyable.
Thanks Malcolm. I do love holloways, they're an impressive testament of the passage of people over time.
Wow Sam...what a place 😯👌 I listened to a Podcast about a similar place in Northern Europe, where the lady concerned sounded like she'd entered the Faery Realm 😳...very spooky 🙈
Oh that sounds really cool! These places are amazing
Epic thumbnail!
Thank you, thank you 😁
The landscape is a spectacular view. ❤ I love all the legends and information you put out with all your videos. Thank you Sam ❤
Thank you Tina, much appreciated ☺️
3:02 .. so are you Sam ❤
Too kind, thank you ☺️
This place looks like it would be beautiful in any weather. Obviously so because it looks like a challenging day but still beautiful. Enchanted.
I'm sure that in spring it's going to look fantastic!
I really want to visit Colmers Hill x
It's really great, when it's not too windy 😂 x
Hi Sam, What a great find, I've driven by, and visited Bridport, many times if only we had known, would have loved to visit those holloways.
Last time I was in the area we stopped by at Cerne Abbas, I find these hill figures absolutely fascinating I'm not sure if they exist anywhere else in the world. I have seen the Nazca lines which are very similar but not carved into chalk.
Maybe its not right but there is no denying that some of the carvings were really excellent, no graffiti too. They are really so deep I cant image how or why they were made if they were not natural.
Some very strong wind to contend with on the way too, that will have blown out the Christmas cobwebs if there are any left!!
Great video, well done!!
PS I used to go School at Springfield School, its not an uncommon name in the UK but over here it always raises a smile when I tell people!!
Hi David, thanks!
It was indeed a great find, and if you're ever in the area, Symondsbury have free car park, facilities, and maps! Easy to get to the Holloways from there and they are really worth a trip 😊
Very glad you enjoyed the video, thank you and have a great week! 😁
@@SamWalksALot Forgot to mention but there is (or maybe was!) an excellent site called hillfigures which was quite comprehensive, its not working at the moment, hope they can fix it, well worth a look
Thank you! I'll definitely have a look 😊
The Shute or Shutt family are distant Norman ancestors of mine. The Shute family were given lands in Devon by William the conquer. The name is supposed to mean archer or lane.
Oh wow! There's a Shute village close by too...
Fantastic video, thank you! How long did the walk take roughly please? 😊
Thank you Gemma! The circular walk from Symondsbury via Hell Lane and Shute Lane is approx 2 hours, if you want to add Colmers Hill it's only an additional 15 minutes. The Symondsbury gift shop gives out free maps with all the routes. They're lovely!
6:24 Hi Sam Have you ever heard of a book called Rogue Mail written by Geoffrey Household ? Part of the book features the fugitive who lives in one of these lanes in Dorset, he makes a sort of den hidden in the dense hedgerows and trees … when I saw this part of your video the image I got when reading the book almost matches your place here in your video. xx😊
Oooooh I haven't! I'll look it up, thanks Chris 😊
@@SamWalksALot you are welcome… sorry title should be Rogue Male … spell checker 😂
Thanks 😂😂😂
7:55 That’s the mysterious Green Man that appears all over the country and Europe too..
I'd really cool, isn't it
@@SamWalksALot yeah… thought the Homers were good too 😂 x
Oh they were 😂😂😂👍🏻
But you did not go down hell lane……why?
I went down a little but it was flooded
