Came to watch this after your new playthrough of the "fan made" one. It's amazing how you haven't really changed much, and that's not a bad thing! I love your humor and commentary, so it was a nice surprise to be able to watch old videos that don't really feel old because it's the same Manly :)

@@Tori-wt7dy Well, in that scenario, you'd either escape the house with sprained/broken ankles or you die from your injuries, sparing yourself from the torture the witch would probably put you through. So it's kinda a win/win.

Shacks, dilapidated houses, old dreary mansions, even ruins offer plenty of ominous atmosphere, an are bound to leave a lasting impression on victims and trespassers alike, the best place for any witch or warlock with sinister shenanigans in mind like turning kids into slugs, brewing something vile, conjuring up something nasty, or stealing bodies. Try doing that in an apartment and you'll get evicted.

I really like how the MC's expressions constantly change in accordance to the proximity towards the hag.
The witch in this reminds me of a story I read. Essentially, this old hermit who everyone of the village actually loved, disappeared. Nobody saw her for days. Then the children started going missing, and she was seen at night in shadows, moving oddly.
Well, the story goes on, and the older sister of one of the kids goes looking for her missing little sister, and she follows a trail to the old hermit's house in the woods. She hides in the old house and sees the hermit inside, but the woman acts and moves weird. Then the older sister watches as some insectoid thing with too many long spidery legs crawls out of the woman's mouth, the same size as a human, essentially using the hermit as a skin-suit.

For suuuuure! That's exactly what popped into my mind, too.
There was another game called Mr Hopps Playhouse that basically took a lot of the same areas and ideas from the Garfield game and no one seemed to notice.

I like how the clock in the dinning room changes after you grab a key item or after opening up a new location in the house to explore.

Wow, this game looks amazing! I really like the aesthetic, the atmosphere works so well, and the scares feel organic (the witch is genuinely TERRIFYING). It's a shame it's so short. I'd love to see more of this game or something similar in the future!
That final chase though. Especially when you break through the door (my dumb ass would have gone for the huge door upstairs). I don't mind the game being short to be honest. It's still great.

I really liked this one! The art had a lot of character, and there was good attention to detail with stuff like the directional sound, the way the sound not only gets louder and quieter bit also more muffled, the girl's expression changing when the witch walked by, and another commenter said she looks in the direction the witch is coming from. The limited palette worked well. And like you said the pacing was tight which was nice!

Man, if this witch went with modern decorating, she could use all sorts of magic with technology to doom people. Drones with red gems in them to act as sentinel spotlights as they float through the air in rooms, turrets to gun you down if an alarm is tripped, laser tripwires that so much as pricking your finger on would slice your torso in half, security cameras with adaptive AI (All clear, caution, trigger alarm), spotlights that get rid of hiding spots when alarms are triggered, and if she can't catch you: a highly augmented mech certainly can. Plus inducting magic into machines could give her even more possibilities.

You know, I really enjoy seeing dev's work around "How to spot (thing)". Like hey, threat off screen. Character shifts their eyes to look at it.
Big rainworld fan. Rainworld does tha thing where your slugcat looks at things off screen, so you know to be careful when your lil fella is looking at something you can't see. I dunno, I think its neat.

I don't think the Hag ever teleported. The girl's eyes track the noise the witch makes, if you stay still. If she's moving, she'll look towards her direction. Also, the sounds of the squeak is 100% the witch going up and down stairs. And all the noises are volume-by-proximity, and directional.
If you carefully watch the girl's eyes and wear a headset, you pretty much can't lose. The only time I think she might have tele'd was the first time, since I think he left her upstairs for that bit.

the point of closing the doors is that distinct sound she makes when she folds under them. if you only leave certain doors open you know exactly where she is

This is the first time in a long time a game scared the ever living fuck out of me
Manly ur killing me... All the indicators of where the witch are are so obvious but you were oblivious to all of them. DX
You can't rely on the eyes, she can teleport and cut you off at the pass and it's a no save game so it's better to play it cautious. So even if you know where she is, it's better to wait it out till you know she's passed you so you have a 100% guarantee you have free reign to explore an area before she warps. Rather than think, oh she's to the right bottom floor. Let me just rush down and face check and hope she isn't too close because that adds risk versus a 100% guaranteed survival chance.

Holy shit, I absolutely ADORE the art in this game!!! All of the details were amazing as well! The way the little girl starts to sweat when the witch is coming closer, the way her eyes dart around the house, it's really cool!

The hag actually doesnt teleport, you can tell by the audio when she goes upstairs and down as well as when shes getting closer.
I like this more than gorefield tbh.
It's more like thi girl is the real willian - she entered the house of isolated witch (almost like she isolated herself for everyone's sake) killed her slime, AXED her, broke the door and ran away. No wonder she pursiuted her!
