The witch in this reminds me of a story I read. Essentially, this old hermit who everyone of the village actually loved, disappeared. Nobody saw her for days. Then the children started going missing, and she was seen at night in shadows, moving oddly. Wow, this game looks amazing! I really like the aesthetic, the atmosphere works so well, and the scares feel organic (the witch is genuinely TERRIFYING). It's a shame it's so short. I'd love to see more of this game or something similar in the future!
There was another game called Mr Hopps Playhouse that basically took a lot of the same areas and ideas from the Garfield game and no one seemed to notice.
Sooo from what I'm looking at in the main room with the stairs... The portrait on the wall is of a mother and her two daughters (tall woman with small girl and an even smaller girl). The woman and the eldest daughter have their own headshot portraits done, but not the youngest daughter. So not only does the youngest not have a headshot, but her face is completely black on the family portrait. I'm guessing the Gnarled Hag was the youngest daughter who was born so deformed that they couldn't bear to depict her face on anything and maybe they were ashamed of it. The youngest was probably ashamed too because all of the mirrors in the house are broken. Unless her mother and sister died of old age, it doesn't explain why she's alone in the house though.
The game is masterfully created, it's so simple but the sound and visual design giving you hints like dark places being hideouts or the items you can interact with being the same color as the girl it's just brilliant, her eyes telling you where there's an item or where the witch sounds to be its amazing game design
That final chase though. Especially when you break through the door (my dumb ass would have gone for the huge door upstairs). I don't mind the game being short to be honest. It's still great.
6:53 is most likely the gnarled hag, the one on the right of the viewer is most likely dead because their face is ripped (or they got their face stolen) and the on on the left of us........idk
4:09 I like this art style mmmm, good stuff. Funny how the girl doesn't react to the witch showing up right in front of her but reacts when you're hiding from her...probably because she has time to NOTICE THE WITCH and goes "wtf is thaaaat?!" XD EDIT: 4:55 I TAKE IT BACK AAAAA RUN CHILD 5:21 Oh, okay, so she can just...phase through the floor? Eek. Uuh, good to know that the cracking sound is her going through closed doors? I hate it. 16:58 Whoooa, that was a nice setup!, you had to sacrifice your lighter to get the book and then the axe so you never were able to see that space right when you got the axe, so she was able to appear like that once you got the axe in your hands, building up to the kid attacking her with it. Damn~ 17:34 Holy shit what the fuck is thaaaaaat?! Awww, I'm sad that the witch just appeared in the bedroom, shenanigans.
Something funny to think about if ur scared, the witch is the grandma looking for her granddaughter and the “death” scene is the grandma giving them a kiss. The axe is foam and the blood is ketchup Edit: the gnarled face is because the grandma had a stroke
Personally, I think this game would have benefitted from a bit more back story from the witch. We were given hints at what her previous life was like (music box, photos) But a few diary pages would have really made this better imo.
To be honest, I feel like diary pages would have ruined the pacing. She's obviously been a witch all her life, and now she's an old (and powerful) hag witch.
Lets of backstory are good for longer game, otherwise we just needs few info: the portraits explain that she has always been a witch, the papers, the oven and the human-eyed slug hints that she likes to kill/transform or eat children and the basement hints that she dabbles with cthulhuesque forces
@@sentinel9651 I think they are what's left of the witch's mother and sister. Looking at the painting in the hall I'm guessing they were not an happy family

When he stood up at 2:30 and verrrry cautiously toothbrushed while listening for foot steps, I burst out laughing haha
That witch's face is very terrifying. 😳
I'm fairly certain her face is a mask attempting to "hide" whatever ungodly fiend that thing is
Finally, a game that makes a witch actually scary
Manly: Looks like somebody managed to escape a Witch's house
Game: Now that you reminded me, DEATH
I like how the clock in the dinning room changes after you grab a key item or after opening up a new location in the house to explore.
Wow, this game looks amazing! I really like the aesthetic, the atmosphere works so well, and the scares feel organic (the witch is genuinely TERRIFYING). It's a shame it's so short. I'd love to see more of this game or something similar in the future!
17:51 While she did escape the witch’s home, but the memories of the witch will *never* leave her.
THIS HAS POTENTIAL TO BECOME A FULL GAME.
Holy damn that was GOOD~
it is a full game
There's gonna be a sequel so
garfield creepypasta vibes, but for some reasons, the gaming section has the witch's house instead of this game.
For suuuuure! That's exactly what popped into my mind, too.
There was another game called Mr Hopps Playhouse that basically took a lot of the same areas and ideas from the Garfield game and no one seemed to notice.
@@floofzykitty5072 Now I have to check that out!
The closing doors are useful because if the witch sees you where you hide you dead
This game has got the exact same aesthetic as Lumpy Touch's yt shorts called "Garfield Gameboy'd" and I love it
God, I love the design of the girl. The rest is whatever, but she has so much character, I must protecc
Art was beautiful. Makes space for more unexpected horror.
There's just something about that final chase that I really liked!
The game is masterfully created, it's so simple but the sound and visual design giving you hints like dark places being hideouts or the items you can interact with being the same color as the girl it's just brilliant, her eyes telling you where there's an item or where the witch sounds to be its amazing game design
love the style of this game!!
That final chase though. Especially when you break through the door (my dumb ass would have gone for the huge door upstairs). I don't mind the game being short to be honest. It's still great.
Was wondering where my daily dose of Manly was. Thank you.
Gotta grab dat daily dose!
Right? can't be holding out manly we need our fix, I was starting to go into Withdrawal over here
Hey guys and this is *your* daily dose of manly
Her face when you're running away with the white background is such a reaction image
6:53 is most likely the gnarled hag, the one on the right of the viewer is most likely dead because their face is ripped (or they got their face stolen) and the on on the left of us........idk
When you started to run away from the witch at the end, the witch was transforming
4:09 I like this art style mmmm, good stuff. Funny how the girl doesn't react to the witch showing up right in front of her but reacts when you're hiding from her...probably because she has time to NOTICE THE WITCH and goes "wtf is thaaaat?!" XD
EDIT: 4:55 I TAKE IT BACK AAAAA RUN CHILD
5:21 Oh, okay, so she can just...phase through the floor?
Damn~
17:34 Holy shit what the fuck is thaaaaaat?!
Awww, I'm sad that the witch just appeared in the bedroom, shenanigans.
I think that the ending is just the kids trauma from the witch and that it isn't actually there... at least I hope not lol
The Gnarled hag is literally just the humanoid version of terraria's boulders.
Something funny to think about if ur scared, the witch is the grandma looking for her granddaughter and the “death” scene is the grandma giving them a kiss. The axe is foam and the blood is ketchup
Edit: the gnarled face is because the grandma had a stroke
Oh boy! Can't wait to enter the rumored Witch's House! I wonder what we'll find here!
You will find a death wish-i meant an amazing adventure
I love how the the last chase segment is a more panacky version because she knows where you are
The creator is thinking about making a sequel so that's cool
Congrats on your video now being permanently part of The Witch's House topic.
Here from the fan game video 4 years later😂
Why- why did this give me so much anxiety-
Personally, I think this game would have benefitted from a bit more back story from the witch.
What's that crying creature in the basement?
@@sentinel9651 I think they are what's left of the witch's mother and sister. Looking at the painting in the hall I'm guessing they were not an happy family
@@GDI99 Imagine if Gnarled Hag was a AAA game on the Switch in pixel style
Her reaction to being chased and hiding and just in general is so awesome. That type of detail should be standard for these type of games. Respect to the games creator.
I really like the feel of this game. Gives me classic Halloween horror vibes that I loved as a kid
This might be the video that introduced me to Manly, and im glad i found his channel
This actually got my heart beating...
The animation in this video-game is a piece of ART! The chasing music was perfect, it created such tension! And the little dinamics of picking up a single object at a time? That was genius! See, this video-game proves that the details is what really make a difference and I loved it! Wish they made more like this, instead of focusing on better 3D graphics...
manly’s multiple uploads every day daily is what gives me motivation every day! he has so much dedication to supply us with such awesome videos! you’re awesome, manly! ❤️❤️
I see you work in the Department of Redundancy Department, where you work.
I love this art style! I hope that the dev will expand on these types of short and sweet fun games with this art style!
Well, looks like someone was actually able to escape a witch's house... ... ...
Or not :P
Oof that ending.
I don't know why but that kind of art style were you see the teeth and eyes and the body is an outline always scares me
I see the thumbnail for this vid and I'm like...
"Same."
8:51 Hmm...I see you, i see what you did there. Making jokes, trying to avoid your own fear, huh? Just like Spidey do, huh? Well...thanks...cause i needed that too...
the witch's appearance in that final boss fight is terrifying
The MC looks so cute with big eyes and ears! The expressions and sneaking animations looked fun, too
I love it when Manly plays these styles of games. I wonder when he's gonna play the VN style of that bunny horror game he was gonna do.
This is the first video of your's I've see and... honestly, you might be one of the best LPers I've seen. Your voice is calm and charistmatic, and you don't feel the need to steal the show like a lot of modern LPers. I'll need to check out more of your stuff!
the girl's design reminds me of young velma from the pup named scooby doo prequel, which is a good thing!
I really liked this one! The art had a lot of character, and there was good attention to detail with stuff like the directional sound, the way the sound not only gets louder and quieter bit also more muffled, the girl's expression changing when the witch walked by, and another commenter said she looks in the direction the witch is coming from. The limited palette worked well. And like you said the pacing was tight which was nice!
How many witche's houses have we gone through at this point?
At least.....
One
The animations are really nice on this one. Really enjoyed the main character's reaction changing to the witch approaching her while hiding
