A pull through design works fine. I think you had too much oil pressure into the turbo. Was pushing through the seals and into the engine. Thats where that big puff of smoke came from. Also some header wrap on the exhaust pipe to help keep the heat in the pipe would help with spooling. Put a regulator inline to the turbo. And fatten up the jetting. I think your onto something. 100psi into the turbo is not needed. If its building 7psi u only need like 10-14 psi oil pressure. The volume looked good tho in the test.
I would put the turbo a little closer to the head and wrapped. Thin oil with less pressure. Fattin up jet until it doesn't pop... Check plug after full throttle run for jetting indicators.
This is great. I passed you going through Portland and was questioning the little pink Barbie car on the big car hauler trailer. So fun to see it show up on TH-cam. Cheers
I am overjoyed to see that Ken is not only more of a hands-on guy than I had imagined in real-life, but he seems way cooler.... Losing the Tuxedo was a good move! BRAVO 😂🏆
restrict oil pressure to the turbo to 10-15psi, Make a bigger exhaust pipe from the flange on the engine to the turbo ( more air in more air out near stock size is to small), run bigger jetting on the carb, and wrap the exhaust from engine to turbo. Running the fuel lean for to long and your going to burn the engine up. Keeping to much oil in the turbo is going to blow its seals. A few simple changes will go a long way.
Dude, whoever does the videography/editing is a champ! Great drone shots, smooth tracking shots and the color correction/lut is awesome! Keep on crushing! Plus the car is cool!

That oil pump is for extracting oil through a dipstick. You jam the copper tube down the dipstick and slowly pump it out. I use the exact one on my boat engines.

You need a bigger intake plenum between the turbo and the engine for a single cylinder. For optimal performance the plenum should be about 4.4x the engine displacement. There is a good MIT paper if you look up “single cylinder turbo” for more info. Good work!
I love putting extremely powerful engines on tiny vehicles. no one expects them to go that fast but since they are so lightweight that they can quickly accelerate.
Grind Hard Plumbing Co Down in Boise. Someday I’ll move further north though. Just love the extra freedom, driving roads, and dirtbike trails. How about you guys?
Get a scroll compressor from an HVAC unit. Maybe fuel injection first. Because maybe a compressor will have the same issues with seals and fuel from the mixture.
I am in Oregon too... What you got going on is no filter to the oil cooler. Therefore you sucked metal shavings into the turbo line. I did that on my 20 psi turbo on my 240 my sr20 Nissan. You need to spin the propeller by finger and if it does not spin, disect it and see if the shaft got welded on the oil side by metal shavings. If it did, you need to have a oil filter before the oil hits the turbo. Mine sounded like a siren before the shavings from a new oil feed line tap hit it. Basically I stripped the line, tapped the threads and did not get the shavings flushed as I instructed the shop fixing it to do so before hooked up. I disected my turbo and found the shavings welded shut the oil feed line from friction. Hopefully this helps, I love your project. Maybe you need a 27 hp kohler engine like the one I a m rebuilding for my new but old lawn mower...
He put this on a dedicated loop not sharing oil with the engine. Any shavings in it would be from the turbo itself. I'm not saying that an oil filter is EVER a BAD idea, but in this case it shouldn't be entirely necessary.
@@edifyguy , ok that makes sense. Well, that's strange that it doesn't work as well as it did. It might have melted if it doesn't have a oil cooler or a water cooler too. But it's hard to tell without physically seeing it. You would know if the propellor seized what happened. Anyways... Still a very awesome car. Makes me want to put a turbo on my 27 hp lawn mower.
I would rework the oil system, make two lines from the oil pump. Put a needle valve in one line, and a 1/16" turbo oil restrictor in the other. The line with the needle valve goes to the oil sump, the line with the restrictor goes to the turbo. Start with the needle valve closed, and open it until you have a reasonable oil pressure on the oil feed line. Since it is electric oil pump and not crank driven it should reach a pretty stable equilibrium outside viscosity changes. Otherwise you could easily make an oil pressure relief valve using brass fittings, a spring and a ball bearing. Check out homemade turbo boost regulators, tune the spring pressure to regulate and bypass extra oil volume to the sump.
That turbo was way too big, you need something much smaller than that, Guessing by the sound this one was only getting probably 10k maybe 15k rpms. And it needs at least 50k to give reasonable boost. Something tiny like a turbo from a 1.2 turbo diesel might work, those turbos are about the size of your fist.
Sorry man the less cylinders you have the weirder things get with turbos just like in the intake you get a really big pulse at one time. Same deal in the turbine side you get a really big spike in pressure the xr650r guys and crf450 guys are using turbos for 2-3000cc cars and getting fast spool times. Alot of kits with the garret gt17 for the 450 that hit boost threshold before 3krpm. Mine is half the displacement of his with the same turbo and I get it by 3k no problem. His issue is he's not getting anything into the engine. He's taking that boost in the intake and let's say 14psi intake valve opens and it drops into vac and before the pressure wave can catch up and shove air into the cylinder the valve closes.
Just a thought.... The clamps, (positive and negative) couldn't you have just slid the sleeves off the handles to the correct colours. Or was that way out of the box?

I know its just a motorcycle motor with a cheap turbo but to my understanding when you cut the motor off you deprive the turbo of the oil so it wears your turbo faster. If you let it idle after running and let the turbo spool down it will prolong the life of the turbo

If you can? IDK if you did this already, never had time to watch other videos. But see if you can find parts to convert over to ball bearing turbo. The compressor wheel will spin much easier and will need less oil feed. It will spoil flawlessly, and to extra ensure. Seal the wastegate. Remove, and block the air line for it. You should be able to build boost afterwards. In theory, it isn't about the down pipe being restricted, its the friction of moving parts, and lack of pressure by a small little motor. Update** Noticing your carburetor is before the turbo, my personal experience and others.. Have never seen any improvements only more problems. Your better bet with the setup is turbo before carburetor, Not after. This would also require some minor modifications and adjust fuel air flow. Having a carburetor on front side of turbo kills the spooling and the throttle restricts air turbulence. I know, this sounds crazy.
Why you would go to to so much effort to build such an awesome rig, drown it in saltwater and continue to flog it to the point of death is so wildly beyond my comprehension.
