Thank you Bearded Berer, that was marvellous. Tasmania was a world leader with Hydro electricity and so much more in engineering in general, now such a shame as it appears to be fast vanishing with very little manufacturing happening compared to what was.
Unfortunately manufacturing in Australia has fallen victim to high wage expenses in this country, leaving Australia unable to compete against many other economies in a world playing field. That said, Australia was a world beater from it's early days, and Tasmania's hydroelectric power is a prime example of forward thinking and innovation.
Almost all of Tasmania's electrical requirements are provided by hydroelectric means, supplemented by wind turbines in a few areas. Bell Bay is only needed when water reservoirs are very low.

Does Tasmania still have hydro electricity on tap ??
It does, they export power to the mainland.
