IMO this guys is a generational player. Griz are set for playoff runs for the foreseeable future. The guy is a team player, plays literally all game, has seriousness in his play, and has the size and athletic ability to dominate all the toothpick centers in the NBA. No way Steven Adams moves this guys off his spot.

Edey was the focal point of his team and he succeeded. Got 2X national player of the year. He will dominate inside like he did in College! So he can't guard out in the perimeter, it's not like there is a 100% 3pt shooter out there. Grizzlies is gonna be hard to score on inside with JJ and Edey on the floor!

That’s the thing. If it works out, then it wasn’t too high. I think Edey will be a really solid player. If he turns into a 10-year starting center that’s fantastic.
People that are saying “this makes no sense” are clueless to what Memphis is.
Memphis does not need Edey to score. Sure they need him to get 8 a night, probably all free throws, maybe 10?
Memphis needs Edey to:
1. Throw screens
2. Rebound
3. Rim protect along side Jackson
4. Shoot free throws

No no no, the only centers that did what Edey did in college all turned out to be hall of famers. The only reason why Zach Edey was projected all over the board was because of differing philosophies. Some people think post monsters have no use in the NBA with this modern NBA nonsense, and some people just look at talent for what it is...talent. Edey has the talent to have been a top 3 pick, but the philosophy of the so called 'modern NBA' ignores the obvious talent, because less teams use post players, but most of those teams don't have players with enough post talent to feature, so its a circular argument, because the rarity of skilled post monsters has a bigger role in why less teams play that way then post monsters being some suboptimal way to win in the NBA.
As a Lakers fan, damn you guys, we wanted him, but I knew that the Grizzlies would be the best place for him career wise. Now teams won't be able to just shut down y'alls offense by taking away your pick n roll like we did 2 years ago when we beat y'all 4-2, because now y'all will be able to just dump it down to him, or you can even add motion offense elements like more teams are doing with their centers, like what Denver does. Now, if y'all let him cook, he's going to be another thorn in AD's side, like Jokic and Sabonis. Edey has more scoring potential and more ability to command doubles than anyone coming out of college this year, but those 'modern NBA' proponents would try to distract you from that. No one on the Grizzlies dominated college like he did. He's going to be a real scoring threat, not some 10 points a night. If you let him get touches, he could easily put up 20 a night. Who is going to stop a hook shot from someone who is 7'4??? WHO??? Hook shots are very translatable from college to the NBA, one of the most un-guardable shots, and height translates, so you add the most un-guardable shot to 7'4, and not many players can do anything about it.

I would rather this team draft what they NEED instead of reaching on another wing. They needed someone BIG that can SCREEN and REBOUND. They definitely got that. Did they get a unicorn or a generational talent? Remains to be seen but Memphis is in a unique position. They only drafted this high due to injuries. They really do not need him to be a superstar. Just be good. He definitely has the ability to flip the script tho and give teams matchup nightmares on the offensive side of the ball. He gives Memphis another option. I am confident that he can excel on this team. If they stay healthy (which is a big IF) the Grizzlies will be a top 3 seed in the West and will compete for a Finals.

He will be good for Memphis no doubt. Imagine the piggybacking to the rim behind Ja for easy put backs. Edey isn’t done developing. Who said he can’t learn to space the floor and hit some 3’s??

Great selection by Memphis. Glad Zach Edey went in the Top 10. I think he can be one of the best players in the draft and should have been considered to go number 1.
People need to realize that JJJ is at his best as a power forward next to a big body rebounding machine. And Ja will benefit from having edey clearing out the lane, giving strong picks and he has great hands for the pick and roll
