  • The Presidium Gem Indicator (PGI) is the industry's pioneering handheld tester specifically for colored gemstones. It identifies up to 31 different types of colored gems based on their thermal conductivity and comes with the Presidium patented refined changeable probe tip, which ensures minimal equipment downtime. The PGI features a color input function that allows users to select from a range of 12 common colors, thereby achieving more accurate results.

    Why can’t I find info on which 31 stones it tests?? Will it test rough stones?

    Sorry but this film is not at all helpful. It is hard to watch the demo and read the instructions at the same time (there is no sound). I also dont need the PGI to give me a list of possibilities - I need to KNOW for sure!

      +Rick Tafoya I agree, does it tell you what type of stone you have, or only what it might be?

    • @tunatofu63
      @tunatofu63 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +777dingo it says what it it might be. it says the color (say green) then you are supposed to scroll through and choose the stone (emerald peridot sapphire) but I already knew it was green by looking and if I knew what kind of green stone I wouldn't need a $300 gadget. I will stick with the big clunky dial type. that has worked for me pretty well.

      +Rick Tafoya +777dingo The device works similarly as the older dial-type tester.This is a digital version which allows the reader to have more types of stones, 31 on this device compared to 15 on the old dial-type tester (known as the Gem Tester).As with the increase in stones, there could be more stones which have similar thermal conductivity and hence, the 2nd step - the color test, helps to differentiate between these as much as possible.Both testers present one way of testing gemstones and to really be sure of the gemstone you have, you should also do other means of testing. Hope this advice helps you.

    Can it give very precise/specific reading for the exact identification for all the major Colour Rough Stones?

    • @presidiuminstruments
      @presidiuminstruments  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Presidium Gem Indicator (PGI) is testing on the thermal conductivity of the gemstones to provide the list of possible identities of the stones. For Rough stones, due to the existence of other minerals on the surface of the gemstones, this might affect its thermal conductivity. Thus, we will not recommended the sole usage of PGI for the identification of rough stones, and users should use it as part of an assorted gem tools to test on the different properties of gemstones for the confirmation of gem identity.

    Just received my PGI less than a week now, calibrated and used it on two stones the day i received it, picked it up today to see how the batteries will work so as to start checking the stones i’ve had for over 2 years and the darn thing is showing error messaging. Tried the three steps to follow if such happens and I’m getting frustrated at the moment cos i’m stuck on error. Anyone got an idea before I return it?

      +777dingo In this demo video, we actually used Emerald during filming.

      so why didnt the tester specify the stone type automatically

    • @presidiuminstruments
      @presidiuminstruments  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For PGI, it will be displaying the list of possible identities of the gemstones based on the thermal conductivity measurement of the device. Given that there are a group of Green stones that have similar thermal conductivity, it will not be possible for the device to specify the exact stone automatically. As recommended, PGI should be used as part of an assorted gem tools to test on different properties of the gemstones for the confirmation of gem identity.

      Hi Ahmed Adam, thank you for your comment. The PGI works by testing the thermal conductivity of the gemstones, rather than the hardness.

      It is accurate on Diamonds and Glass, everything else it gives you a few choices by the color that you have to figure out what it is.

      Hi John, thank you for contacting Presidium and apologies for the late reply. May i know if you are experiencing any issues with your PGI device?

  • @tunatofu63
    @tunatofu63 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The old dial type DID tell what the stone was!! not recommending this device AT ALL! Expensive and doesn't do the job.

    • @presidiuminstruments
      @presidiuminstruments  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Presidium Gem Indicator (PGI) uses the same thermal conductivity measurement as the Presidium Gem Tester (dial type). But PGI is able to test for 31 coloured gemstones compared to PGT that can test for 16 coloured gemstones.
      Please email us at service@presidium.com.sg so we can better understand the issue at hand and assist with troubleshooting for your PGI device accordingly. Thank you for your understanding.
