- George Stroumboulopoulos goes track by track with Chris Martin and the new album, Viva la Vida. Find out hidden meanings and information about the tracks you love on The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos
It's actually nice to see an artist reflect his own music and comment on his work in such an open and direct way, quite a change.
Well said
@@dante.7500 Except he was being purposely glib and not quite truthful. For example, he's on record as saying he feels that 'The Scientist' is the best song he's ever written.
@@dante.7500 And?
-"Clocks"...
-Our first ringtone..
LOOOOOL!!!!!
My first ringtone when i switch to android from ios
Emanuel Romano I remember that, I listened the song on one sonyericson.
'everything's not lost'
'isn't it?'
love chris.
Seen, heard and read about 90% of Coldplay interviews since they started out and this is one of my favorites
Agree :D
But why have you consumed all of that content? Was it worth it?
@@tavares4224if you do something and it brings joy them of course it’s worth it
@aleja - they're amazing aren't they?
It is interesting to hear Chris Martin say that Politik is their best song.......and all these years and albums later it still is.
PANDAPILCH Politik is epic, pure inspiration
Politics
6 years later and its on their current setlist!! Been my favorite coldplay song since I was a baby (literally!!)
He has the softest voice! I love listening to him just speak .
Omg Chris Martin has no idea how good he is
Chris Martin is incredible! So funny, talented, intelligent and inspirational
I LOVE Chris Martin, and he is so awesome in this interview! What a chill, funny, intelligent guy, with tons of talent to boot.
hah I had Clocks as my ringtone for a year until I switched phones
same
That song used to make me feel sad as a kid.
Now I see why he hated parachutes. They tried ripping off a lot of their influences while being original. Still my favorite album though.
I love how he said Fix you was his top song because that was the song that got me into Coldplay.
I love 99% of Coldplay's songs, and I just can't wait for the next album!!!!!
Talk, talk, I love the way your sweet voice caresses the sky.
Warning Sign is my all time favorite song.
Love his truthfulness, humor & being true to what he believes.
"Everything's Not Lost."
"Isn't it?"
I love him😂😂
i like how when he lists his top 3 favorites, he lists 4 songs.
George; everything's not lost
Chris: Isn't it
I love his face when he says "isn't it" ermahgerd
Viva la Vida not even mentioned once
Hahaha
Salman Khan well viva la vida had only been out for less than a month when this was recorded, so it was as popular as it is now
@@finnhumane have you seen the title of the video
Graham Crackers wym?

He so damn handsome! Not because of his outside looks but because of his beautiful soul.
"We Never Change" - Pretty good! Lol. That's my fave song on that album.
Yay, "A Whisper" is great :).
Seriously tho, I think that Coldplay are way too hard on themselves. I agree that they were getting a bit too comfortable and "Viva" was much needed and appreciated :), but that doesn't mean most of their old songs were rather rubbish as Chris seems to be alluding here.
god damn 12 years ago, you still alive man?
"One of our longest titles." Hahahaha, perfect.
Two amazingly smart human beings speaking to eachother...I'm amazed the camera didn't implode from the awesome in the room.
I’ve been watching some videos of Coldplay like this small interviews, oh I can’t stop smiling, my muscles hurt haha... he’s just an amazing humble artist that truly conveys a feeling a meaning. It’s wonderful, I remember the first time I saw them live, I couldn’t stop crying. (Before that I used to think "why do people cry when they listen to a band they love live?’... well, I wouldn’t know how to explain that, Coldplay is an energy of joy). Also, I’ve noticed that Chris always talks about "connecting with the audience" and that, I would say, is the seal of the band.
Oh why is chris always so funny?
I FREAKING LOVE "A WHISPER" IT ISNT POPULAR BUT GENIUS
He is sooo coool!!!
"I don't remember it" I love Chris' sense of humor.
warning signs 😑😑 i hate they stopped playing it, its on of my favourite
I like The Scientist, Clocks and Every Teardrop is A Waterfall. But then again, they have never made a bad song.
I don’t know bout that. Listen to their last album.
@@raythepretentiousnerd One bad album in 2 decades. Not bad.
@@shambhav9534 Yeah. However they’ve had albums I don’t dislike but don’t really care that much about. Like I didn’t really care about Head Full Of Dreams it’s really not my taste.
all of coldplay's songs are beyond amazing
We Never Change Amazing Chris Martin!
I believed warning sign is a good song
I hope Coldplay knows that Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head are pure gold to a lot of fans out there.
"Everything's not lost?! - Isn't it!" :D
love them
He's so cute! I love him.
This video made my day. Chris is such an amazing person
Great when he mentiones the top-3 his favorite songs, and there's fix you and yellow, my ultimate favorites too from Coldplay!
He Is Just Amazing Love everything about him!
Fix You was the first song i played in piano and i love it since i was 8 years old
I think this is Chris Martin being honest and himself. I love this so much!
Haha! Clocks was my first ringtone! :D
Viva la vida is the child of Parachute and A Rush of Blood to the Head, I see. Thank you, title.
"Warning Sign: not so interesting" is the best thing I've heard all day
omg... he's lovely!
I watch this in full screen . Super Cool !!!
Great interview
Now, Whisper is my favorite song from coldplay :D
HUMILDE, GENEROSO, TALENTOSISSÍMO, E AUTO-CRÍTICO🎼🎵🎶❤️❤️❤️
One of the band members (I dont know which one) said, "A good band borrows another band's stuff. A great band steals it." That really comes through when Chris Martin talks about ripping off other bands. I love it. Take someone's stuff, and expound on it, make it better.
"Jonny got a good riff in it." Chris, we know. That is your guys' song! :D
what a cool guy !
for you & we never change are his sexiest vocals ever
For you is such a great and underrated song. Really gloomy.
As much as I love Coldplay, hard to think of a song that has got anywhere near Politik/Yellow for quite a few albums now 💔
"Clocks"
"er...our first ringtone"
Haha! Oh man, it was my first ever polyphonic ringtone, woo!
Chris Martin!! have you really thought about it?? warning signs made me fall in love with your band...
"In My Place" " Fix You" my favorite.
clocks and viva la Vida are my favs
I believe I heard/read somewhere that Chris wrote Fix You for Gwyneth Paltrow when her father passed away
Great interview man!
Colcks.... Our first ring tone XD
hhahahahahhhahahah omg Chris hahah!
I think thats called being modest :)
He doesnt have that celebrity feeling I think, and doesnt feel like the rest of Hollywood.
Coldplay stayed themselfes. For example, in every concert they say a special thank you to the people in the back of the crowd, every time they thank the fans, and now they even give out thousands of free cd's at the concerts. I mean, Theyre the best, and they dont brag about it! :)

Politik is epic man, warning sign and in my place too...
This is my favorite song
love him!:x
I bet the interviewer (who's doing a great job) felt soo good after Chris his compliment! Who wouldn't!
Was not expecting to hear good things to say about Metallica at the very end ❤ such a wonderful person ❤
I always wondered what his favourite song was and I'm glad the three he mentioned are my all time favourites. Although I do feel Viva La Vida is their best song. Had this interview happened 2-3 years later chris would have mentioned that in the top 3.
you´ve got to bore people sometimes
Clocks may be your first ringtone-- it's my one and only ringtone.
Increíble
Track by track is the coolest part for me. Did they ever so it for X&Y?
i remember watching this interview when it came out in 2008 omg i was 16
Fix you , the scientist and yellow rocks.I love warning sign though. lol. Anyway, I love Coldplay.
Fix You was a reaction of everything that happened in that period, and indeed, the loss of Gwyneth's father was an ''inspiration'' for the song.
omg!! lov coldplay:)
warning sign is one of my fav..
Great to know he likes A Whisper
I watched thsi when I was 23 time passed so fast
"green eyes" "Interesting" *grin*
Buckin ♥
A new track by track, please !
yah both great albums
Hah. 'Everythings Not Lost'"Isnt it?"
Hes amazing.
in my place and viva la vida are really the only songs from them i listen to.
U really need to listen to the less known ones too
Uncannie whO i like their In My Place the best.
+Duchess Politik, Cemeteries of London, Amsterdam, Swallowed in the Sea, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, Army of One. Get on it, you won't be sorry :P
Peppersnoop I've heard them. Still really only connect with their In My Place track.
edit: well, and the scientist too.
interesting that Politik is in his top 3. I'm glad Yellow is. And Fix You is great. I can't even begin my top 3, but right now I would say Yellow, Shiver, and Green Eyes are my top 3 at least right now. Shiver and Yellow will always be in the top!
“The Scientist...good..well, it’s alright” funny hearing that now that it is a fan favorite and has been covered by the likes of Willie Nelson. lol
love it.
thats so an og video
everyone who watched is a legend
That's funny Politik was always my favorite song of theirs
He said The Scientist is just "good." How humble is Chris Martin???????
Exactly the same here fix you got me into coldplay and was the first song i learnt on piano that is so weird?
i really start listening that album after the scientist
I completely agree, Politik is their best 3 for sure !
it turns to awesome audio quality
He doesn't understand how good warning sign is
I thought it was going to be about the song Viva la Vida, but it was about the Album. I want to know about the song.
@backintoyouropenarms I really don't think you should take what he says about the song seriously, it's more a kind of self-ironi thing. Remember, that every song on on all four albums, is wisely picked out, for an example, only 13 songs came on Viva la Vida, even they had made around 30 at the time.
