This video made me finally buy a Thinkpad for myself. Got my Thinkpad T460 5 months back. Thanks a lot for the in-depth review Lisa. Really appreciate it! FYI the machine is running great. No complaints at all. I am a Computer Science grad student running a lot of data mining (read heavy processing) code and am really impressed by the battery life of this thing. Also, so light. I am coming from Ideapad Z580. Compared to that T460 feels like a breeze in the backpack. Again, Thanks Lisa.
Lisa, I watched this on Thanksgiving Day, 2021. Always excellent reviews. The computer business has changed so much in just over 5.5 years. Thank you for your professionalism. Have a great holiday season. Hopefully, the winter will be mild in the Metroplex.
Really great review. Very useful that you said how easy it is to get inside (no plastic clips!) and upgrade. But wish you took the back off and showed that!
Awesoem review, as usual. Think I am gonna stick with my T440s (with T450 touchpad) till T470s comes, hopefully with USD 3.1 and removable second battery.
Great job! I love what you're doing with the new videos, panning the device and all. But if I were to very carefully suggest something from the viewer's perspective... A little more consistency might look better! For example, videos made by MKBHD and Dave 2D have a consistent feel with the panning shots since they use a camera slider. I think they also don't pan and zoom in the same shot, as I saw in this video. They tend to use only one effect (sliding, panning, zooming, focusing into the device, etc.) per shot. When they do use these effects, it seems like they use a more consistent speed (panning speed, speed to zoom, shakiness while zooming seem a little better on their channels xD). I don't make videos and I'm certainly not an expert on video production or anything like that. I'm just a very loyal viewer to the channel who has some suggestions from, as I said, the viewer's perspective. So I hope you don't take offense from anything I've said :] They're just some random thoughts I had while watching.
I have tried all business laptops and whilst the MacBook Pro is miles ahead of all Windows business efforts, Lenovo are the best IMO, HP are disappointing and Dell are so so. The loss of the bridge battery is sad but battery life has really improved and I found that one battery can get me through the day. They are very robust and take my knocks with no issues. I love the keyboard and trackpad, they are the main selling points IMO. I usually buy via a reseller as lots of the Windows fanclub insist on 2k screens which for business use (word, email, etc) is overkill, so I rarely pay more than half retail price as demand is reduced by those that insist on as many pixels as they can't see. Also you get a matte screen and as I am outside all the time it is essential, I tried the SP4 but it sucked in bright sunlight under the reflections of my office (car). Comprehensive review as usual. Thanks.
+amfrepo The file system on the mac and the layout of some software (Word etc.) is a pain IMO. Agree with you on the keyboard and trackpad, like highres screens though as I use my laptop for multimedia as well. Plus scaling has become pretty decent on Windows 10.
Hi Lisa I wish you reviewed the regular T460 and T460s side-by-side. I've read that T460 is a superior machine where everything is on point in comparison with T460s which has some design flaws such as inferior trackpoint and worse keyboard, while not being that much thicker. Have you had a chance to see both in action? If so, what are your thoughts?
Hi, will you do the T460 also? It feels like the T460 is the actual successor of T450s. That non-swappable battery makes this T460s more like a cheaper-but-thicker X1 carbon. Where T460 would fit most business users better. Hope you could do that one. Thank you.
I think they did a good job. I have both the Carbon X1 and T440 and I feel like this is a perfect balance between the X1 and T440. The Carbon X1 sacrifices battery life because it's so slim, yet the boxy design of the T440 looks very outdated. Yes, the battery is sealed in the T460, but Thinkpad batteries are super easy to replace - took me a total of 5 minutes to take the internal battery out of my T440.

HDMI is by far the most common connector on display devices these days and it has been for a long time. The only place VGA is still in use is in servers, like go get a new DL380 Gen10 and it will have a terrible Matrox with VGA output. All cheap monitors have HDMI. Pay a bit more and you get DP. +Matevž Bencik When and if Lenovo gets us a review loaner, I'll review it. I suspect the US Best Buy exclusive (where it's still called the ThinkPad Yoga 14) has taken it off their review priority list.
+MobileTechReview Lisa I have a t450s which I love, I want to use it as a desktop...sometime though, what are your thoughts on docking statins, made for the laptop vs universal dock? OR do you think I should just get a desktop
+learner4life31 what are you looking for end of the day? the whole reason to get a dock is that you can quickly connect/ disconnect to a larger monitor/full size keyboard/mouse/local network storage to be more productive. I mainly use my t450s for work and dont put any personal stuff on it as it carry it from work to home but I do have a dock at home. So when I want to do work, I just drop it on the dock and get to work. On another note, the reason to get another desktop is that maybe the laptop doesn't have enough computing power for your needs? If not I would just stick with the laptop.
BalanceCube I guess the key thing i'm looking for is being able to have portability and desktop ergonomics...I use my laptop in portability mode and on the desk through out the day...so, when I dock it, I want to connect to external monitor keyboard mouse without issues ..but if docking station has issues like connectivity and wifi etc... then i'd rather manually connect things to my laptop or get a desktop
First of all - very nice review. Thank you. Now, let me see if I get this correctly, both X1 and T460s are 14", same screens (resolution and touch), size is almost the same, same 6 gen CPUs, and almost the same ports (a few more on the T460s)... Why are these two separate laptops?? if the T460s had a stronger GPU (the 930M shouldn't be much stronger then the HD520 if any) then I could understand. I mean, the T's used to be the sweet spot between the strongest hardware possible in the most slim, yet durable, package there was. Now it's just another ultrabook... there is almost nothing to distinguish it from the rest, so what is the point in making it? Especially when the company already has a few laptops, under that category, which aren't any less good (if not better).
Great review. Very tempted to get the X1 Carbon 4th gen now but hesitant without your thoughts/review. Do you know the ETA for that review? It will be interesting to do a side comparison with the T460s vs the Carbon (4th gen).

Great review Lisa! Could you try and pick up a Dell New Latitude 13 7000 and compare it to the XPS 13 in terms of Buisness Laptop vs Consumer Laptop. I think it would make an interesting comparison of two different worlds of laptops.
I appreciate your reviews. Any side by side thickness shots between the 460s and teh X1 carbon? I'm trying to decide between the two. But I love the ability to Dock and the Ethernet port is almost a must have.
Thank you so much for your review, Can I please ask you a questions? I am configuring my next T460s Labtop and your review helped me very well which way to go, however, I am going for the i7 with a 12 DDR4 ram what do you thing about this configuration? is there a big difference between i5 & i7? and if I go with i7 what is the best RAM configuration I need to go.. Thank you so much Lisa!
A t460 or t460s is over a grand w/ any kind of options at all. I bought a t60 on ebay for $115.00 including shipping. Weighs approx. two pounds more, 15 seconds longer to boot & 10 seconds longer to shut down. Battery life is 6 hrs. 40 min. w/ reg.use. I'm running windows 7 which I really like, not to mention the t60 looks & feels so much better. Really like IBM machines. mine is 8 years old & not one problem. not yet anyway.
This one is really nice but only comes with U CPUs so in my eyes does not really deserve the well known Thinkpad T Series name! If i want a 15W CPU machine I bet i can get something better for 2000$ (cost in Germany for non-maxed out version) The refreshed 460p gives immense power, exchangable battery, superb build quality and easy upgradability for less money. Do you have a review on that one +MobileTechReview ?
i just got one to replace my aging X230 for $440 USD, incl. charger. I recently replaced one of the batteries, gonna replace the other one when it arrives (shop only ordered one). Also replaced the one DIMM with a 16GB module. Planning to get an Intel AX200 wifi card. Currently running Fedora 33, and its quite snappy. I'm really enjoying it. Lusting after the newer Ryzen 4000 models but.. when a $400 machine does everything that i need.. :D Maybe in a few paychecks :)
siemenssx1 whoa, relax pal. It was just a bit of hyperbole. Of course it doesn't actually sound like a jet engine. But the fan on my T450s (and X240) are noticeably loud, giving of an irritating high pitched whirring noise when they start to heat up. Corrupts the experience of otherwise great laptops. I was just asking if the noise issue had been addressed on this new model.
I am currently using my thinkpad x210. it has great keyboard. are there anything you could recommend me if i want to upgrade? plus would love to see some laptop keyboard comparisons. thank you so much
@Isaac: Keep your X210 because starting with the [Letter]430 & [Letter]230 Lenovo changed the keyboard, & added a “Whitelist” to the Bios that accepts only certain hardware (only certain batteries, for starters) & made all other hardware you connect to it not-work. And then they added a internal non-removable battery to the [letter]440 & [letter]240 models (when upgrading Ram or the-internal-storage of the computer, it’s always recommended to physically-disconnect the computer from the AC-adapter AND remove the battery, so that there’s bo electricity whatsoever running through the computer, so that you don’t run-the-risk of shortcircuiting the components when you put them in to the computer), and they eliminated the internal-roll-cage also, and added things like soldered-onto-the-motherboard Ram, & not-replaceable power-socket plugs (the AC-adapter socket on the laptop itself), and other piss-poor crappy decisions. Lenovo slowly & subtly took a crap on the Thinkpad line ☹️.

Is this laptop any good for photo and video editting?
How's the fan noise? I recently bought a T450s which is great except for the jet engine-like fan.
+AgainstYourThought It's relatively quiet-- no jet engine sounds.
+siemenssx1 hes joking you dumbass
+siemenssx1 Dude, it's just a joke aha. Please calm down, she's simply implying it is not overly loud for a laptop.
siemenssx1 whoa, relax pal. It was just a bit of hyperbole. Of course it doesn't actually sound like a jet engine. But the fan on my T450s (and X240) are noticeably loud, giving of an irritating high pitched whirring noise when they start to heat up. Corrupts the experience of otherwise great laptops. I was just asking if the noise issue had been addressed on this new model.
siemenssx1 Are you being serious?
full matte touch screen? how so? Is the touch surface glass?
Can you use it for Stronghold Crusader Game???
Best review
I am currently using my thinkpad x210. it has great keyboard. are there anything you could recommend me if i want to upgrade? plus would love to see some laptop keyboard comparisons.
thank you so much
@Isaac:
Keep your X210 because starting with the [Letter]430 & [Letter]230 Lenovo changed the keyboard, & added a “Whitelist” to the Bios that accepts only certain hardware (only certain batteries, for starters) & made all other hardware you connect to it not-work.
Are you going to review the T560?
Maybe not because the specs are similar to this one.
Hi Lisa! Could you do a review of the Asus T100 Chi? I'd really appreciate your opinion about it!
