- It's a boat, it's a plane... it's the ICON A5 amphibious light-sport aircraft.
GearJunkie motors editor, Bryon Dorr, heads down to Williamsburg, VA for a day of flying with the team at ICON Aircrafts. They take to the skies and test out the new ICON A5 to experience a world of boat-launch taxis, water takeoffs, and adventure flying.

Great video, Bryon -- we're glad you enjoyed the flight.
That ligth-plane was classic, wow...👍🏾
How can I experience this for myself?! You guys have demo days for prospective buyers in the East Coast USA?
This plane is also available in Microsoft Flight Simulator!
one of my favorite modules
This is the best video out there for Icon A5
Especially the way you explained the instrument cluster in a simple way.
Also as an amature, you did pretty good flying that thing 😊
This thing is soooo cool.
So whats the death toll up to?
4 according to my research
Can I get one with a tilt rotor?
Did you have too reserve a Demo flight ?
Va ca ville.....not vay cay ville. Love the video though
The man has never ordered a taco it seems.
Thank you. As a person who is a Vacaville native I was disgusted by his pronunciation
HOw is it pronounced than ?

Can I get one with a Turbo? Or two??
For 400k you can be a pilot too!
you could buy a good used Lake for less than the cost of this thing. Without all the restrictions they put on the buyers.
I want one and I live in a flying community
I had read somewhere that they were not selling anymore. Are they still in business??
oh yeah they’re definitely still in business, just the plane had a couple crashes with one ending the life of if I remember correctly a celebrity so it had some controversy around it for awhile, but they’re definitely still being sold!
Very much still in business and selling quantity and doing continual small upgrades.
Definitely still there.
@@thattransproto4510 yeah Roy Holiday the HOF pitcher unfortunately crashed his but he was high as a kite on Vicatin at the time...
Pretty much all the A5 crashes are pilot error I'm not aware of any that have been licked to airframe or engine
Did I miss the price?
Yes
400k is too much, I originally saw these twelve years ago, they were $125k at the time. I thought wow when I'm older I'll buy one for that or maybe used for much less. But it's crazy the used ones are going for more. Crazy 😧
Ha, agree... at $400k there's definitely a smaller market.
I have a feeling at $125K a lot more of us would be seriously looking to buy!
it looks cool! Now China build one for 50K so we can all have one ; )
ha! wouldn't that be something? As long as the build quality is solid I think most of our employees would take one at that price point...
Yes lovely, and at just 400k totally affordable for the average person. Yes yes I know I need to just work harder and get 10 more jobs.
No pre-built aircraft is affordable for the average person
They are bankrupt.
Not a bad design. Too bad it cost 3 times what similar cost and a few others have better features.
ya its cool for non pilots,,,, pilots know to stay away from it
Only 2 total fatal accidents in over a decade. Way better record than most single engine aircraft
400k for an airplane? Or because it's a sea plane. I sincerely hope you need a pilot's license because it's still considered to be an airplane, for less than $200,000 you can buy a real airplane easily even as low as 100,000. Another thing, why are they crashing?
All your answers are addressed in the story linked in the video description, besides the crashing part. For that, do a basic Google search, as you'll find that not many have crashed. Also, a plane that flies at low altitudes and can land on water is much more likely to crash than another style of aircraft. Less time to react and generally a more dangerous environment. - Bryon
They all crash but lack of experience and training would be my guess. At 1320 pounds weather is always a big factor in all light sport accidents.
Just so we are clear - you have no license ... and you flew a plane ... #reported.
