No way I could get rid of 365 pieces of my clothes. I have beautiful clothes I am slowly fitting into :) I can totally stop buying things like new clothes, shoes, makeup, decorating items, take out, etc. I have donated so much to local church, and feel so much happier with less. I have my vision boards up.
I’m doing a low/no buy year especially for clothes and makeup because I’ve really gotten to a point where I buy without thinking or for emotional reasoning and it adds up a lot. The amount of purchasing is really above my current means and I do not need any more clothes at all. Looking forward to resetting and changing my relationship with shopping (and also making gains in my savings)!
Hollister, H & M…all cheap brands. Buy higher end brands like Patagonia & your clothing will last much longer. Good shoes are an investment. In order to have good feet when you are older, good shoes with good support are a must.
Thx for being here! I am doing a low spend challenge also in 2023. Nervous…. I’ve built a bad spending habit to cope with PPD. Hoping to build better habits in the new year!
Aww ppd is rough. I have 5 and have dealt with that all but one time. Hang in there, and try to get some fresh air every day. Just stand outside and breathe. It works wonders.
I have done no buy years before but since 2020 I've became addicted to amazon. I'm purchasing things I want but don't need on the regular. I want to do a no buy, no fast food/resturant year in 2023 to help get back in that mindset.
I'm going to attempt a complete replacement only no spend year for 2023. The only thing i'll buy is replacements for stuff that I use up the last thing of, and books. Streaming services (Netflix, Crunchyroll) will continue, but I have about 600 books between physical and kindle that i've purchased over the last couple of years, and i've only read about 100 of those. Health is fine. Clothing I will purchase as needed (I only buy when they need replacing or essential anyway), and a dress to wear to 2 weddings in April. Plus gym contract. I'm going to limit eating out at work to 1x week. I have a financial goal to pay my father back the money he's leant us, and end up with $20K in the account at the end of the year. My partner and I are saving for a house deposit, which we're hopefully going to get in 2024. I want to declutter in 2023 as well. We've just moved continents and there's a ton of stuff we've been gifted by my parents that we just don't use - Pie maker, donut cooker.... so I want to either try and figure out how to use them in 2021 or pass them on to new homes. I'm keen to get started! Initially I was just going to do makeup, but i think a no spend year for everything unless it's essential will do me some good. 🙂
So I think you make some really valid points. Yes, saving money is super important. But it's also important to remember to live a little. I do as much free activity as I can possibly think of. Walking, new parks w/ puppy, playing games/puzzles we already have, etc. I also believe in replacing things I use regularly; face moisturizer, body wash, home cleaning supplies etc. I'm on a no spend, & I see the differences between that and a low spend. Even if I have like, an impromptu date night or something, I give it a budget. $20, example. Snacks, grocery food dinner, and a Redbox movie. Done :D Is that a cheat or no? I'm not sure. But it is mindfully thought over before spending. & to me, that's a win! Just discovering your content.

No buy January and a low buy 2023. Making a list of what I am not buying and what I'm willing to spend money doing is eye opening. Thanks for your insight.
Hey! I am doing a no-spend year for the first time. My "why" is partially because I will retire in a few short years and want to enjoy my retirement sensibly. It will be extreme, but I would like to pay off my vehicle as close as possible in 2023. Thank you for sharing!
While watching your video I started writing out my list of things I will and will not be spending money on in 2023 as well as other goals for the year. We can do this!!
I have a very low clothing budget but in 2023, I will want to get a few new pairs of shoes. In addition, I expect the bulk of my home reno budget to be done!
A lot of excellent thoughts and ideas here. Obviously some of them are unique to you, but there are some that seem like they should be obvious for everyone. My personal spending revolves around guitars/gear and I'm doing my best to quit/hold back this year, AND sell excess gear and other items, to pay down debt. My goal is to be debt free by the end of 2023 #debtfree23.
I never did a no spend year, but I never really buy clothes, books or electronics unless its a rare occasion, and never bought home stuff as I rent. Makeup, expensive, skincare and random stuff from amazon are what I would need to cut in a no spend year
Ok girl, so I finally got my last big payment for 2022. I will close 2022 with a 26.6k USD in savings, (relax, I know our race will be clarifyed by march 2023 with your bonus). Just make sure to save as most of it as you can, and let's go together to the 36k mark this coming year!
This video is SO relatable. I am glad I ran across this. I really need to let go of tiktok trend buying, makeup, clothes, and shoes. Half of my closet is filled with clothes I've never worn and the other half I can't even fit anymore. I'm spending money this year only on things that work towards building skulls or improving my life. So I'd like to pay for yoga and pilates classes, a gym membership, Spanish language books, etc. Things that I can use to improve my life somehow
Yeah those ads and people sharing everything they love really gets me!! I'm deleting my socials tomorrow! I love the idea of only buying things to improve your life ❤️
Hello, Leila! Just found your channel today and I enjoyed this video a lot. You are very thoughtful and intentional in your "why's"...I appreciate your introspection and you gave me some interesting ideas TY!
Excited to see how you do with this! Definitely won't be doing a whole year but I'm hoping to do a couple no spend months throughout the year. :) Too much stuff is sooo stressful anyway. Good luck Leila!
Great video! I’m doing a No buy/ Low Buy year for 2023 and will be filming a video for my channel this week. I’ve never done an extended no buy so I’m super excited and also honestly a little intimidated. It seems so daunting but I know I’ll be successful if I set my intentions and take it one day at a time 😊
Way to go you got this...I realized myself I rarely use fb and don't get on IG though I have an account. I have had to monitor my use of watching TH-cam shorts and next thing is 30 min later..
I’m doing a no-spend month in January and aim to make an extra $1000 in each of the first three months to make a big impact on my goals for the year while I’m still feeling extra motivated and ready to get after it! I haven’t posted my 2023 video yet, but that’s a goal for the end of the month 😂
I’m doing a mixture of low buy/no buy for 2023. I’m still allowing myself to go out to eat, going to movies, going to coffee and buying snacks/junk food because I still want to enjoy life! However, I will limit those things. I also will not be buying clothes, shoes, skincare, makeup, or handbags next year. Good luck to everyone ❤🎉
Yess I love to see this! I appreciate that you mentioned that many of the things that we buy are wants, and not needs. Many of us have the things that we already need. I have been on a no buy for November and December and I'll be doing a low buy throughout 2023 as well. =) I'll probably continue with a no buy for the first few months of 2023 and then readjust. I love no buy/low buys! It makes us so much more conscious of our spending and also the physical items we are accumulating. I can't wait to hear about your declutter journey too!
- This is such a great idea. I think I am going to try to do a low spend month for January and see how it goes. I found your channel through recommendations, and I really enjoy watching your content, Leila! #NewSubscriber 🤎🤎
Girl, I'm also a book lover! I went crazy buying books in 2022. It's so easy to look at my library wait list and just buy it lolll Thanks for the inspiration to at least hold off for awhile 🙏💕
THIS! I do that too. Like I could have it NOW instead of waiting 2 weeks to 5 months for the library. Mood reading doesn’t help the situation either lol
I’ll raise your 365 Declutter and do a 2023 items to declutter! Hahah jk that would be horrible. Also just realized you’re in Stone Mountain! I’m nearby in Decatur and have also started a channel thanks to you and other budgeting TH-camrs ❤
Great video! Your goals are similar to mine and I’m also giving myself permission to still live my life while being responsible paying off debt. I travelled twice this year , I went to Florida for Valentine’s Day and went to Dominican Republic for a friend’s wedding and I’m happy that I still made memories. I get paid weekly and budget by paycheck and allocate a percentage for my savings and debt. This Friday I will put my last remaining huge chunk of money towards my 3-6 month expenses and then I will tackle my medical debt. Some sinking funds had to be paused in order to meet this goal.
Brand new subscriber thank you for going through and letting us know this I’m currently watching this, but I was recommended this channel and decided to jump in and watch! I’m glad I’m watching it because I am going to start my first low spin/no spend! Not sure how well I’m gonna make do on it since I do have three children and two dogs, but Other than the sinking funds and saving challenges, I have currently available and I’ll be working with this company in coming here, I am setting a limit on things we will not be buying or needing unless it’s completely 100% out and we need to have it!
Great stuff, Leila! You've inspired me to declutter... I really want to go through my clothing. I've also been working on getting rid of unnecessary paper in my life. I upgraded my printer/scanner and have two bank boxes of files to go through, scan what I need, and shred the rest. I've realized there is very little reason to keep paper copies of so many things that I've otherwise just been filing away. For books - as a public librarian, I'm totally with you with the love for reading! For long hold lists on popular books - try placing every book on hold as soon as you find out about it. As you work your way through the books you have already purchased, you'll likely find that some of those holds will become available. I find that once my hold list becomes 20-30 items, I get notifications that 1 or 2 of the items are available nearly every week, so before you know it you'll have more library holds ready than you need! Depending on your library, it's likely you can also "suspend" holds, meaning you can keep your place in line at the top of the list but you say that you don't want the holds for a few weeks, months, or whatever you need. It's great for building a list of books that will become available quickly once you a ready for them and "unsuspend" them. I'm not the best example because I work in a library, but I have not purchased a book that wasn't a gift in years - the library saves SO much money!! Best of luck for 2023 - this is going to be a great year for you!
I think it’s really cool that you mentioned other people on TH-cam who are also doing low spends, definitely going to check them out too! Cheers to a great year! 🍻
I don't wear makeup aside from filling in my eyebrows a bit and I use the Anastasia brow powder which lasts me years lol For skin care I use Blume as my cleanser and moisturizer. Supergoop Play for my spf. And Summer Fridays Heavenly 16 face oil!
I would love to know who you did the tarot card reading with? I love occasionally doing that as well and I like going to someone who is recommended then a random person. Thanks for this video! 😊
Hello there, good morning 🌅. This video is amazing, I liked it much, mainly for its good quality in audio. She has a nice voice, I like it, too. Greetings, have a great Wednesday.
just found your channel because of this video and really learned a lot from what you had to say - I'm looking to do a low-buy 2023 and this video provided a lot of good ideas for my own approach to this for me
I would love the information for the person you go to for tarot readings. Plus I am going to try having 6 months of no spend since this will be new for me.
Hi great information and plan. I’m new to your channel. You mentioned receiving a tarot reading. I was wondering if reader offers virtual readings and if so would you be so kind to share their information. Wishing you the very best on your progress and journey.
I tried to do my first no buy year in 2021 and it did not happen for me but I tried again in 2022 and it actually stuck this time. The reason I wanted to do it was to pay off my mortgage which I did in September! While I don't know if I will do a full no buy year in 2023 I do plan on doing at least six months so I can work on saving for a new (to me) car. Two things in January almost derailed me because I had to get a new phone and a new water heater but I just had to remind myself that those were within my rules and keep on going. Being sure to make concessions for the things that you really know you want/need is super important or you'll get burnt out so quickly. I still made sure that I was allowed to buy new albums by my favorite band but just not additional merch, and I was allowed to eat out while on vacation or with friends on special occasions, just not by myself. You really have to specialize it to yourself and your spending.
I’m doing the opposite I’m increasing my spending budget because I’ve increased my income by 35%! But I’m here for it, I’ve really become more intentional with my spending since the pandemic so I can do this only after some low-spend/ low buy periods and reframing my shopping habits. You got this! 😊

Thank you Leila. You are a huge inspiration to me starting this YT channel to record my debt free journey. Now you inspire me to do a no spend/ low spend year for 2023 ❤
I found your channel in 2019 while searching for no buy year. I subscribed then and have been so impressed with you. You do an awesome job with your finances.
Great content as usual and I really love your consistency. I like Rachel Hickey and Well-behaved Wallet. I stopped watching Rebecca Quest to fire when she started sharing her numbers only with paid members of her channel. Claiming it's because there are spam comments which didn't make much sense and seemed more like cash grab. It turned me off.
Great plan, although I would advise to be careful with the spending on travel and experiences...those usually cost much more than clothes and/or books. But I'm sure you're already budgeting for that :) good luck to everyone doing Low Spend Year!
I completely agree, experiences are great but most people usually go over budget bc they’re “living life to the fullest”. My family of four can easily spend close to a $1,000 for a weekend getaway. By the time you pay for hotel, food 3x, and entertainment that is usually $100-$150 a pop, and gas to go back home. It gets very expensive. It’s something that we can’t afford every single weekend. My family normally just don’t go “sight seeing” or go hiking, my husband and kids love to ride go-carts, mountain roller coasters, indoor tubing, basically any physical activities and those are not cheap. I don’t know how large families do it.
Great video🤗super inspirational, I feel the exact sameeeeee about social media!!! I used to deactivate them, but lately I have felt it’s easier for me to not go so extreme, but instead just take them off of my phone…I stick to intentions better this way. Happy New Year🎉🎉2023 will rock ❤
I was with you until you stated you got a new credit card AFTER you said you wanted to get better with your debt. How is opening another credit card and using it getting better with your debt? Just seems really counterproductive.
A low spend year can be "customized!" To travel and experiences are truly valuable so I am choosing to spend money on that this year. However, while I do enjoy new clothes/material things, those aren't super valuable to me right now so I primarily want to eliminate that for 2023!
I'm considering doing a low spend/no spend month in 2023. I've never done one before. Thanks for the ideas/inspiration!! Eating out has previously been our high spending category. It'd be interesting to track that specific category in 2023.
In 2023 we're not completely sure yet! I would love to go to Costa Rica or Greece! Maybe Wyoming, but the flights cost more to go to Wyoming than out of the country!
So, historically, clothes was never a spending point for me. I was heavy. In July I hit a scary number and I’ve lost 70 pounds since. Went from a 3X/24 to a L/14 and now I think I need all the clothes. Sooooo…. I’m banning until I lose that last 30 pounds, at least (because it’ll be a need rather than a want at that point). And books. Girl I preordered like 8 this year for 2023. Other than those I have got to stop. Lmfao. That and toys for my son. He legitimately doesn’t need more toys. His room is a disaster.
Congratulations!! Good luck on your journey and I would love to hear updates! Books are my weakness!! I ended up ordered a bunch this month so I have enough in 2023 😂😂
@@gigi4874-w3w thank you! I didn’t tell like anybody until December because I knew the second I said anything, I’d mess it up somehow. (Plot twist, I did. but not badly haha)
@@PersonalFinancewithLeila Same. It’s such a cheap form of travel/entertainment (travel in the loose sense obviously). Growing up, I always wanted a library. And I embraced elements of minimalism and still collected books despite it (just to Kindle format), so I more or less accept that I am a book worm and allow it to happen, just with rules (like think about if you want it for real for 2 months for new authors). But even with rules, I have to tap the breaks a little so I can save to actually get the area for my library in order (it needs a drop ceiling installed and painted, etc., so it’s a small save but needs to happen so I can actually enjoy the space).
Excited to join you! I haven’t traveled since 2019 so I’m definitely making room for travel since I have two flight credits. I’m doing my no/low spend year to save for a new car (mine is 10 years old) and to buy a house!
Hi Leila! I stumbled upon your channel and really enjoyed this video :) for your Hollister gift card, if you can’t find anything you want in stores, they have websites that buy unwanted/unused gift cards! Yes, you’re still losing money but it might be better to get some of the cash back than buying stuff you aren’t happy with.
Hiii Im a booktuber who needs a no spend year. I’m finally committing to one in 2023. I need so much help and I feel like my life has spun out of control. It’s time to get things in order.
I am planning a No Spend period in the even months AND the last week of any month that has 5 weeks in it (March, June, September, and December). At the end of every month, all the categories with extra/leftover money (like groceries, dining out, fast food, water/electric, gas, etc.) will be moved into paying extra toward debt.
So exciting! I hope to try a few no spend months in 2023. Unrelated, I get 404 errors when I try to click on the link for the other participating TH-camrs in your description.
This advice is amazing. I find myself being so easily influenced to buy things I see these days. I’m definitely going to do social media breaks. Good luck!

Thank you for watching Judy!!
It seems so daunting but I know I’ll be successful if I set my intentions and take it one day at a time 😊
I'm going to try in 2023
Thank you for this!
I love not being on social media!
Definately gonna do a no spend year. My problem is clothes, makeup and food.
Way to go you got this...I realized myself I rarely use fb and don't get on IG though I have an account. I have had to monitor my use of watching TH-cam shorts and next thing is 30 min later..
I am also doing a low spend year in 2023 with some no spend weeks.
Love it!
yap, I LOVE books too! I am committing to a low spend no spent, but i cannot say no to books. lol
I bought a bunch of books in December so I could have enough to read throughout the year 😂
@@PersonalFinancewithLeila Ya, mee too, so maybe I should challenge myself not to buy anymore books. lol
I’m doing a no-spend month in January and aim to make an extra $1000 in each of the first three months to make a big impact on my goals for the year while I’m still feeling extra motivated and ready to get after it! I haven’t posted my 2023 video yet, but that’s a goal for the end of the month 😂
Best of luck!
Awesome! Sounds very similar to my plan!
I am trying this yes for 6 months and see how it works
Good luck!! 🙌🏻
It's so easy to look at my library wait list and just buy it lolll
Thanks for the inspiration to at least hold off for awhile 🙏💕
THIS! I do that too. Like I could have it NOW instead of waiting 2 weeks to 5 months for the library. Mood reading doesn’t help the situation either lol
Woohoo! We got this 💪
Let’s do it!
Yassss🎉 Let’s DO THIS!🙌🏻❤🔥
I’ll raise your 365 Declutter and do a 2023 items to declutter! Hahah jk that would be horrible. Also just realized you’re in Stone Mountain! I’m nearby in Decatur and have also started a channel thanks to you and other budgeting TH-camrs ❤
😂 I probably could get rid of 2023 things if I counted each tiny thing! I'm in Decatur as well 😊
Great video!
I live about an hour north of Atlanta. I think it would be really fun to have a reading by the woman you mentioned.
Her name is Denise Foster and her website is chakrabalancedenise.com !
I am trying my low buy in 2023 for the first time. Thank you so much for the pointers. Very helpful and very motivating!
great video!
thank you!
Really enjoyed your video!❤
What do you use for skincare and makeup?
I don't wear makeup aside from filling in my eyebrows a bit and I use the Anastasia brow powder which lasts me years lol
For skin care I use Blume as my cleanser and moisturizer. Supergoop Play for my spf. And Summer Fridays Heavenly 16 face oil!
I would love to know who you did the tarot card reading with? I love occasionally doing that as well and I like going to someone who is recommended then a random person. Thanks for this video! 😊
Denise Foster! Her website is chakrabalancedenise.com
great
Hello there, good morning 🌅. This video is amazing, I liked it much, mainly for its good quality in audio. She has a nice voice, I like it, too. Greetings, have a great Wednesday.
just found your channel because of this video and really learned a lot from what you had to say - I'm looking to do a low-buy 2023 and this video provided a lot of good ideas for my own approach to this for me
That's awesome thank you for being here! ☺️
I would love the information for the person you go to for tarot readings.
Plus I am going to try having 6 months of no spend since this will be new for me.
Her name is Denise Foster and her website is Chakrabalancedenise.com!
Such an amazing video. Thankyou!!
I’m doing the opposite I’m increasing my spending budget because I’ve increased my income by 35%! But I’m here for it, I’ve really become more intentional with my spending since the pandemic so I can do this only after some low-spend/ low buy periods and reframing my shopping habits. You got this! 😊
That's an amazing increase, congrats!!
And thank you!
I’m doing something similar. I just need to calculate how much I’ll need and what I’ll need

Yeah I love shoes! 😩
Side note…walking pad is totally worth it lol
Just discovered you and binging all your content im also based in Georgia please mention your tarot card reader ❤
Thank you so much! Her name is Denise Foster!
Since the beginning ❤️🥹 thank you so much!!
I live in Atlanta and I’ve been looking for a reader. Where can I email you for her info?
Her name is Denise Foster! Her website is chakrabalancedenise.com
Or you can spend the giftcards on gifts for others for bdays etc?
Great content as usual and I really love your consistency. I like Rachel Hickey and Well-behaved Wallet. I stopped watching Rebecca Quest to fire when she started sharing her numbers only with paid members of her channel. Claiming it's because there are spam comments which didn't make much sense and seemed more like cash grab. It turned me off.
Great plan, although I would advise to be careful with the spending on travel and experiences...those usually cost much more than clothes and/or books. But I'm sure you're already budgeting for that :) good luck to everyone doing Low Spend Year!
Yup definitely still have a budget/rough idea of spending in those categories!
@@lovingsunshine3515 so true. Just spent $300 for one night for our family of 6 to go to “Winterfest” a local amusement park.
🤞🏽 looking forward to this low spend year.
Recently found you. I can relate to the drain of social media and its influence to shop. Good luck in 2023!
I was with you until you stated you got a new credit card AFTER you said you wanted to get better with your debt. How is opening another credit card and using it getting better with your debt? Just seems really counterproductive.
She lost me as well, especially with the tarot reading. That’s a no for me
Not sure how holidays/experiences/concerts is a low spend year? No hate, just a question x
A low spend year can be "customized!" To travel and experiences are truly valuable so I am choosing to spend money on that this year. However, while I do enjoy new clothes/material things, those aren't super valuable to me right now so I primarily want to eliminate that for 2023!
I'm in Atl too! What's the tarot reader's name/info?
Denise Foster! Her website is Chakrabalancedenise.com
I’m doing a no spend in 2023!!
I'm considering doing a low spend/no spend month in 2023. I've never done one before. Thanks for the ideas/inspiration!! Eating out has previously been our high spending category. It'd be interesting to track that specific category in 2023.
I really enjoy your journey your such a. Inspiration for me. Love you Leila.
Nice 😅
Where you going to travel to? 😃
In 2023 we're not completely sure yet! I would love to go to Costa Rica or Greece! Maybe Wyoming, but the flights cost more to go to Wyoming than out of the country!
Love it. I’m doing a low buy year as well with similar rules! Can’t wait to follow along🤍
So exciting! Thanks Destinie!
I ended up ordered a bunch this month so I have enough in 2023 😂😂
Good job. I'm proud of you!!
Doing a low spend this year as well!
Awesome!! 🥳
No spend where I spend.
Thanks so much Linda!
Hiii Im a booktuber who needs a no spend year. I’m finally committing to one in 2023. I need so much help and I feel like my life has spun out of control. It’s time to get things in order.
It will be great! Are you allowing yourself to buy books? 😩😂
@@PersonalFinancewithLeila i am but with rules. I can use the $$ from selling my books to get new books but I can’t use cash from my fund funds.
I love the idea to get rid of 365 things!
OMG, too many commercials on this video.
Oh good to know! Thank you so much I will fix those!
This advice is amazing. I find myself being so easily influenced to buy things I see these days. I’m definitely going to do social media breaks. Good luck!
Notes taken,
Travel while in debt
Get credit cards on a no spend year
Goto scam psychics
Great philosophy
ikr. Lol!😂😂. She’ll be spending in 2023
"2023 Should he a normal year" oh man let's not hope a serious recession hits.
The emails from businesses are ridiculous. I am forever unsubscribing!
Good luck on your low-spend year!
I agree ☝️ it’s predatory how often they send stuff! It’s like okay, I get it you told me you’re having your annual sale for the 50th time 😪🙄
