    Thank you for the tips, they're very useful. You have such a warm, angelic personality and a very beautiful calming voice. You reminded me of my step gramma a lot, she passed away years ago. Anyway, thank you again. I hope you're having a wonderful day 💗

    Watercolor paper is cotton. You can actually iron it, spraying the back, then sandwiching it between two other pieces of paper than flattening with an iron. 😊

      I slip my paintings into a clean white pillowcase to iron the back after spraying

    Thankyou Dianne I tried your technique of wetting the back and laying if flat with heavy books on it and it works a treat.. Thankyou

    I'm still new at painting but one tip I got was to gently wet both sides of the paper before painting. That has really helped keep the painting from buckling thus far. If it does though, I'll give this a shot. Thanks

      A good idea, but in order to create a variety of edges, I need the paper dry. If the paper is slightly damp, you will only get soft edges.

    Hello Diane, I have struggled a lot with this issue myself, and I have even more trouble when you factor in a mat. I cut my own mat board so when I am figuring my dimensions for my actual painting I have to factor in the mat as well, in order to use ready made frames. I’ve had so many failures. Do you have any advice on a formula that works every time, that includes the mat also?

    • @diannemcnaughtonpainter108
      @diannemcnaughtonpainter108  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I think if you use a regular mat size, you can factor it in, e.g. if you use a 2 1/2 inch mat all round, and your frame could be 14 by 12 inches, measure a cardboard inner that will fit this regular shape frame so you can just draw around your shape each time. Write on your cardboard your mat and frame size for future reference.

    Excellent painting of your husband. :) Let me see if I have this right: you use the boards as templates for the size of the PAINTING, not the size of the paper. So the painting will be (whatever size you pick, say 9x12) the correct size, with room left for the border so it doesn't fall through the mat opening? I've been so confused on this and was thrilled to find this video. That's why I want to make sure I understand it. Thanks very much for the helpful tips. I've saved the link so I can watch it again.

    • @diannemcnaughtonpainter108
      @diannemcnaughtonpainter108  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that is right, I use boards to draw out the size of the actual painting, leaving a border on the paper that can go under the mat. So glad you found the video helpful!

    Dianne, is the flattening done before or after sealing?

      Hi Maggie, I don’t seal my watercolour paintings, I just frame them under glass.
