Thanks to some other smart people, it has been discovered that I may have assembled my safety straps wrong with the mounting pieces. Anyone else with Monster Lite safety straps, how are your straps setup? Do the brackets swing the same way or opposite directions?
What was the issue in assembly? I just got a new rack with straps and I would like to avoid doing the same thing. Thanks for the video, by the way! I've been looking for a comparison between safety systems the last few days and youre literally the only person I found who could help me out!
I saw another video where the guy recommended switching over the ends on the safety straps, such that on one strap, one end swings outwards and the other end swings inwards. This will create a favourable twist when you try to push the strap outwards and makes it harder for the end to slip off.
Dammit man, thank you SO much. I haven’t been able to find specific stuff like this anywhere and this helps me out so much. I’m going with the straps on a RML. My issue is I can’t decide between the 390 or 490. I have the space for both. Also, your kid is adorable! I can’t wait to have my own hanging out with me in the gym haha.
The Kurtlocker Yeah, you’re right. I think I’d end up regretting less room in the rack than more room in the end. I subbed, I like your stuff dude. You tell it like it is, I appreciate the practical down to earth opinions. Thank you again.
If you switch one of the pins with the other side, should help the pins coming out the sides so easily. You have them both facing the same direction in the video.
Great information and very well laid out, great video. I have a question. Do you think the pin holes on ta spotter arm can be used to attach weight horns as a makeshift dip station attachment. I ask bc it’s what I want to do. I’ve heard bad things about the matador (1 big one being you’d hit your head on an upright if leaning too far forward).
I have a bells of steel light commercial rack and their equivalent straps and spotter arms, and I love them. I also noticed I prefer to do my rack pulls from the spotter arms vs the straps. The arms are also really convenient for hip thusts and stiff leg deadlifts when you set them up at the lowest point outside the rack.
@@TheKurtlocker I'm still deciding. I'm going back and forth between the Rouge RML-3 and the Rep Fitness 4000 series rack. With Rouge, I'm certain I will get quality. Rep Fitness would be a little cheaper (though not dramatically cheaper) and they have accessories that I'm interested in, particularly the lat pull down attachment. They have similar specs, both are 3x3 11 gauge steel with 1 inch hole spacing in the bench area.
Hello, nice video! I have one question and I'm hoping you have the answer. What are the spotter arms side holes for? I've seen that a lot of spotter arms come with them but can't think of any applications for it.
If you could only have one (spotter arms or safety straps) which would you go with? I'm on a limited budget at the moment and can only go with one. Thanks
@@TheKurtlocker Thanks for the reply and those look like a terrific option but currently they are way out of my price range. I could purchase both three safety spotter arms and straps from Rogue at that price. If you could only afford one option from Rogue, which would you go with?
Thanks for the video. I do bench press and squats inside the rack and curious how well straps will work in a 24" rack. I have the RML-390 and thinking about getting straps to replace the bar/pin safety arms.
The bench strap setup seems counter intuitive. The mount should be high near the face to save it from being smashed and roll away to the chest where you can just undo your bench arc. Rogues straps are really long however so I dunno if it can do it effectively
I’ve tried higher st my face, but it limits my range of motion. I agree that the straps in the 43” rack are pretty long. I’ve gotten used to them, but the straps in the 24” and 30” spacing racks are significantly tighter
those pins and holes look really small! do you know how much weight those safeties would actually hold? i would imagine if a big guy dropped 600lbs those safties wouldn't make it.
I’ve seen some pretty heavy tests before that did well. 5/8” is pretty strong, however I have a rack with 1” holes now. Safety was not the purpose of my upgrade though
Safety straps are so much quieter as they can absorb the energy of dropped weights. For those who have wall mounting squat racks they dont have a 2nd post to use a safety strap with. This is my disadvantage. So for me, i have to make do with safety arms.
The safety arms can be easier to adjust. I have arms as well and use both straps and arms depending on whY I’m doing and where I’m lifting at (inside or outside the rack)
@@TheKurtlocker actually the safety straps are much better when you have 2 posts. In incline bench press, you can set the s.straps to roll away from your chest. The same can be said when u r doing decline b.press. 1 hitching point higher than the other depending on what mode of exercise ur doing. For safety arms, its always the same.
@@TheKurtlocker possibly the height? I’m curious of that as well, if you happen to know? Essentially the length of the peice that butts up against the rack. Trying to figure how low they can be placed.
2/4 torn rotator cuff, torn bicep, torn labrum. Initial injury was not lifting related but I’m sure that the injury going undiagnosed as long as it did exacerbated it.

I’m happy that my video helped. I’m releasing a slower video this week on my error.
What's the max weight that you have put on the spotter arms?
About 770 lbs
@@TheKurtlocker Link to the vid addressing the error? Thanks!
Thanks Kurt. Active Army Tech and appreciate your videos. Let me know when you’re dropping merch and I’ll support ya
Thank you for offering to support! Glad to see that other techs are finding the channel as well.
Thank you for all of this information. I just bought a RML 490C and you have given me so many ideas.
I’m excited for you. Thanks for watching and hopefully I can inspire you some more.

Pretty cool and useful video! Keep the good content coming!
Thank you!
I just ordered mine from Rogue... all thanks to your review....
Thanks for watching! You’ll love the purchase
Love the rubber band work in the spotter arms 🔥🔥 I don’t have straps because they are sold out but I can’t stand the safety pins my rml rack came with
I’m not a huge fan of the standard pin and pipe safeties either.
The Kurtlocker I ordered the arms yesterday and I’ve been using the safety pins as stall bars 🤷🏻♂️
@@Gimmithat491 if it works then send it!

I actually made a follow-up video shortly after this one showing just that. Thanks for the tip!

You can however you will want to be sure that you are setting it up so your body weight forces the “C” of the safety into the upright.
I like both. Thanx for video.

I agree that the arms are easy and the most versatile of all the safeties
I think both are needed... thanks for the video...

Great video. I'm currently rack shopping. Thanks.
Make any decisions?

I’ve used straps in a narrow rack like you described with success.

Nice info like the safety in garage gym. How much did your rack with the accessories cost ?
I think I totaled it all up once and it was around a $4k value if you include anything that can attach to the rack minus weights

Do the rm4 safety straps fit the monster lite series racks?
No. The RM4 is a rack with 1” hardware and the Monster Lite holes are 5/8”
What's the vertical length of the spotter arms? Looking to get some spotter arms locally but want to know the dimensions to compare.
