The fact that its only available on the bigwater and completely overpriced, is going to make this a very niche product, my guess is icast 2024 they’ll have it available on the 106 and 120. The fact that you cant connect an external battery to it is also a big miss imho
Who says you can’t? Look at the new pedal drive, it looks the same as the regular pedal drive. It has an electrical box on top and a cord. The mechanical connection components and hull shape plug look the same. Its obviously not a direct fit because you would need to rig the electrical plug to the non electrical hulls.
Everything is the same Hull wise, other than the kill switch. Most fisherman are crafty enough to make their own kill switch or jump it out and take a chance if you flip.
Now just make it a stand alone part you can buy for the 120 pdl and just drop in and i think you would have a winner. ( not all of us want to buy another kayak😁)
Have them change the 0 mode to pedal and charge the battery. That could mean using the kayak for a whole weekend away from power, or longer. It doesn't have to be a heavy charger just used as an extender so it will always be available. Make it switchable so you can pedal without using the generator in 0 so you don't have to push past that while enjoying it as a pedal kayak.
Not to be redundant with my other comments here…I have a Topwater PDL and I live on Hutchinson Island. In the winter the winds and currents can be pretty sketchy and it limits the times I can get out on the water. This kayak would be a game changer. I’m considering ordering one.
they can do it!, they can add spot lock and autopilot to this, it will have to be a new boat, and will neeed some gears either in the hull or the trolling motor. Probably gonna cost $8,000 to $10,000 and take 3 years to launch lol

Interesting comments below. Haters are going to be haters, period. OT could come up with a 13 foot kayak that weighed 15 pounds but carried 1000, peddled at 15 mph, maneuvered as a ballerina, and cost $500 with a lifetime unlimited warranty and people would criticize and complain and say it wasn't better than a Hobie. Back to reality. I thought I read that you can't buy the drive and battery and drop it in an existing Big Water hull. If that is true, I think that's a big mistake. Maybe their marketing strategy is to put it out this year as a stand-alone and see how it sells. From that they can decide whether to modify the drive slightly so it can drop into a Big Water, and then move on to a further drive design allowing it to be used on the Sportsman series. I love my Sportsman PDL 120 but I'm 73 years old. At some point, it would be nice to get some "assistance" in getting around without as much effort. Also, I wonder how long it's going to take OT to deliver these boats to folks who "prepay" $6000+? Will they want to wait 4-6 months for delivery.
I have a 136 Autopilot. So some things that I'm seeing that are bad. 36 volt system. Most 36 volt batteries are very large. Which means you can only use the one made by amped. Bad Idea. Should be a 12 volt system. Torquedo makes a 36 volt battery also but uses proprietary plugs. Either way , the industry standard is 12 volt. Use it. The Cabin space ahead of the seated position is very small compared to the auto pilot. Looks very cramped. Yet you made the rear space larger. I do not really see the reasoning behind making the space behind the occupant larger , it will make us have to turn around for stuff more frequently , which makes us more likely to flip. This is a very tall kayak , like other PDLs , and very heavy duty. It displaces a lot of water and has a huge weight capacity. Should shift the weight more to the rear but at the same time add more space up front and more adjustability to the pod system forward and back for different sizes of people and at the same time give me room ahead of the occupant. IMO it should be a 146. 14.6 feet long. make it a little nose longer , with the adjustment capability. Give more foot space. Lower the space ahead of the drive and put a triangle storage compartment like Hobie does with the pa 14. Think of it like a slayer propel 13 but with a hatch. Make it two inches narrower , but 1.4 feet longer ahead of the driver. For better tracking and slightly more speed. The sidewalls ahead of the occupant could be narrower as well to give better inside width for more cabin space. My prime spot for everything is just under my legs in front of me and thats where the focus should be , better and larger access to that area. Also , should do a raised up edge around where the pdl drive goes into the water. That way you are less likely for stuff to disappear through that hole. Native Propel 13 does this the right way. Copy that. Oh and no spot lock like my Auto Pilot , which is simply a game changer in terms of hunting for reds and specks. IMO Old Town needs to completely scrap this idea and go with a autopilot redesign that has better forward hatch size. and a hatch in front of the seated position as well as a 55 pound thrust model with the ability to also fit that into current Autopilots.
Bruh for 6000 it should be a 100ah or at minimum 50ah so that it fits in the hull. Similar speed to the autopilot and more $$$ I’d only switch out from my autopilot if it got 7mph with pedal and e-propulsion combined and it had a larger battery then I’d write the check. Oldtown put this boat back in r and d.

Is it a motor or a PDL? Will you need to register it as a motor vessel or not?

Is there a built in charging system when your only pedaling to recharge the battery?
Charging while peddling would be a game changer as well.
I'm guessing we can't just buy the drive and put it into an existing Predator/Bigwater? Can the battery be replaced with a larger capacity battery?
