    "not too clean, not to dirty"... you and I have VERY different definitions for these words. 🤯

    I think The acoustic properties of like five or six more Marshalls in the room would have really made the Lizard Queen sound just perfect.

    The main attraction of this demo was that Green Matamp.

    2:20 The balance pot is a “C Taper” so that might have something to do with the way it’s working on this model. The nano version has a “B taper” pot and seems to have a different feel.

      Thanks for the info! I was wondering why it functioned the way it did. I feel like I need to get the Nano for comparison. The smaller one is definitely more practical for touring and it may be less noisy in operation.

    Great demo! It’s even better to hear how it used how I would use it.

      Great band. Used to play shows with them when they were just getting started.

    I wanna hear more of that sweet ass green amp! I wish someone would do a demo of that bad boy with OD pedals instead of fuzz pedals. Like tubescreamers, treble boosters, and maybe an archer

    Just saw your post on IG and it sounded awesome!

    Noisy, the shadow is brighter, the sun is darker, (02:23) and the octave doesn´t sound great (03:24) so it appears that Josh teases his guitar fanatics once again.

    Octave fully down on an octave pedal makes perfect sense.

  • @cortZ40
    @cortZ40 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    imho this is a simpler version of the eqd life pedal. Not saying that they sound similar, but it feels like both of them were thriving for a similar output. I guess someone will do a A/B comparison in a few days.

    Great pedal! Been loving mine. Very versatile when you play with your amps gain settings. The balance and octave play off of each other to create varied tones. I find Fuzz pedals confuse many people. It's all in the way the pedal interacts with your amp and settings. Crushing tones from the Matamp!

  • @Chris-pv2my

    The volume knob on the guitar effects the sound of the octave knob and vice versa just FYI. ;)

    Use it like you would use a vintage tone bender but with the ability to add / subtract octave fuzz effect. Not for everyone but those of you who know who you are realize how amazing this tone shaping pedal is

  • @DebonaireDerek
    @DebonaireDerek ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Honestly the best tones were when you turned the pedal off. The Seger into the Matamp sounds killer 🤘🏻

      I agree...I like the original tone w/o the pedal...it added noise...that's about it.

    I have a lizard queen. I get better sounds from a fuzz face and octavia. Lizard queen is not the greatest if you want the octave thing. But it is fun for some glitchy fuzz sounds. Loving the meta green!

    Just ordered mine. Use it into a broken up old school Marshall. It will work properly then

    The octave sounds like it would rock for solos, but that's about it. No worse than my octave modded DS1

  • @lllThunderDomelll
    @lllThunderDomelll ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Front what I've heard the big box has actual vintage components (don't know if I'm using the word correctly) from the 70s to give it more of a vintage sound. The nano version has modern ones so honestly if you're looking for a better sound, the nano's better.

  • @azombiestool

    Hey man. Is that a newer model Matamp? That clean tone was amazing man

    • @purgasound
      @purgasound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This one is from 2021. This one was brought in for repair and its back to the owner now. I figured this would be an appropriate amp to try out the new pedal. I like it more than the other Matamp I just worked on.

    Not too clean, not too dirty???????
    That was full-on distorted!

  • @Steakfinger
    @Steakfinger ปีที่แล้ว +2

    When your “not too clean, not too dirty” amp tone sounds like a Metal Zone then any pedal will be noisy. I have the big box and the EHX version. Neither are noisy on my rig.

    Beautiful pedal, sounds nice! It is made in vintage fashion! But yeah I never been the biggest fan of JHS dunno why, their pedals never grabbed me, that being said it’s an old school octave fuzz in a beautiful stomp box!

      @goatman3057 ปีที่แล้ว

    Octave effects sound terrible with chords. Use with single notes only and you'll discover the magic.

    Little disappointed in the extreme noise when not playing and lack of sound adjustment the knobs give you. Still sounds good, but just a 1 trick pony.

    • @StandbyCymbalist
      @StandbyCymbalist ปีที่แล้ว

      In the super long vid josh posted he did mention the actual time he put into developing the circuit on the bread board was actually pretty minimal, they put way more effort into the graphic design/collector/tribute side of things. All knobs a noon did sound usable to me tho.

    • @MilkmanOfMchenry

      When he dimes the volume on a pedal through a cranked overdriven amp of course there will be noise. Turning the volume down slightly and the gain down slightly on the amp would get rid of the noise and you would still have just as much gain

    • @purgasound
      @purgasound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet. Maybe a noise gate like an ISP Decimator would help that out.

      I work as a contractor 12 hours a day before I come home and repair gear for a few hours. I'll do that literally up until the day I leave for tour and I go back to work the day after I get home. I don't drink or do drugs and my only hobbies happen to be my professions as well. The $ comes from grinding. Its not for everyone.

    great Honest review! thanks for sharing, I feel JHS made this a bit too muddy, theres no note Clarity, if they wanted to make a lizard queen they should have been inspired more from this dudes tones th-cam.com/video/bIAlfoIE9Ic/w-d-xo.html IMO
