What insulation and foam Board were used? Looking to do the same thing asap. First insulation, then foam. Board then the 1x4? How long of a nail? So it doesnt poke through the upstairs floor?

@@jacobninan2059 I did try, it was a nightmare and gave up. Didn't have a foam board cutter so there was crap everywhere. Brad nails wouldn't hold it. My other nails 3.5 in, popped through upstairs. I gave up after the 4th one.

I know drywalled ceilings are so plain and bland and your ceiling looks soooooo much better, but I thought one of the main reasons drywall was used to cover the ceiling was because it's a fire retardant. Would the entire ceiling and then house burn down in a few mins with a wooden ceiling? Obviously tons of houses in America catch fire that are drywalled but at least it prevents the spread and gives the fire department something like 60-90 mins before the house burns down?

I see you're going with the corrugated steel panel in the kitchen as well as the bedroom. The kitchen I don't mind as much but if it's gonna be used in the master bedroom as well, then it should be painted. The family room ceiling is gonna look great when it's done.

What’s the ledge that he’s nailing the 1x6 into between the joists?

As far as sound proofing I don't think it's a problem, if it's a home it's not like there will be a bunch of people upstairs romping around. :)

I'd love to do this exact thing in my home (which currently has a drop ceiling) and I have two questions I would love some help with. #1 - My beams are about 4 ft apart and I'll be nailing the planks to what I believe are called furring strips on the inside of each beam - will 4 ft 1x6 planks be too long/heavy and eventually sag? What is the most plank width/length I should consider? #2 - Should I worry about gaps developing from heat/cooling expansion of the wood (2nd grade pine)?

I think I would be concerned about that pinched electrical wire. As far as the sound-proofing, I have my doubts it will be adequate especially if the second floor is not carpeted.
