In this video Paul Andersen explains how objects in contact with varying temperatures will eventually reach thermal equilibrium with equal temperatures. The amount of thermal energy transferred is related to the mass and temperature of the objects since momentum is transferred and conserved along the margin.

I have a doubt that I haven't been able to figure out. What happens if the iron block's temperature is maintained at 36*C by an external heat source and while it is connected, it is submerged in water that is room temperature (20*C) - will the thermal equilibrium be 36*C instead of 28*C? Another question: is it possible to heat water up to 100*C with a stove that is at 36*C (or any value below 100*C)?

heat is relative. if iron and water are same temp, they will stay the same. if one is hotter than other, that hotter object will increase temp of other object. and hotter object will be cooled by lower temp object

How is this applied to GW, Global Warming?
Pretty much the same way, for example the El Nino transfers heat through evaporation to the upper atmosphere the heat escapes into space and cool rain and snow fall down in New England. When they talk about global warming they're saying that the greenhouse gases are trapping that heat from escaping.
Roo, I understand that is one aspect, trapping gases, however the GW community includes certain aspects that seems to challenge the laws of thermodynamics. 1. Stems from a finding of C02 IR activation when exposed to particles. 2. They seem to ignore the laws of gravity since C02 is the heaviest gas. 3. They also seem to ignore the heat transfer, since our atmosphere is always cold and constant transfer is at point especially in the micro level. Just mention a few

I don't know how much of an effect human activity has on GW, I'm not sure the scientists involved are necessarily ignoring certain things or not, it's a pretty complex system with a huge number of variables, I doubt very much you could accurately account for everything and get a perfect picture. It's probable that human activity may have some influence, but how much?
